Another point in Haskins favor.  Not only has the run game been better over the second half of season but also the oline.  They were pretty bad that first 4 games of season.  Not to mention, the defense has gotten better throughout the season.  It all adds up to Smith getting a better chance to be successful than Haskins and yet their stats are similar.

I wouldn’t say it’s a point in Haskins favor currently, I’d say it’s a point in Haskins favor that he should be on the team next year.

The problem with Haskins is he’s developing and uneven as a QB. Alex puts the team in positon to win games bc he usually doesn’t have bad turnovers or make awful reads as a QB. A young QB like Haskins is usually good for 2 or 3 bad reads a game that can lead to bad turnovers. Haskins also isn’t consistently accurate, Alex is when he’s not dealing with injury.

If Alex had played vs the Seachickens, I think we win that game bc he wouldn’t have even attempted those bad throws off of bad reads downfield that Haskins did in the first half.

Haskins had McKissic wide open in the ball he attempted to Cam downfield, Alex definitely throws to McKissic and he gets 10-20 yards after the catch.

If we get in FG rage there, that’s two FGs instead of those 2 ints then, it’s 13-9 at halftime at worst. You add those 6 points plus hopefully a made Extra point after the 2nd TD and that’s 7 more points and we win the game.

People really want to dump on Haskins for that Baltimore game and say he was padding his stats........when it was still an 11 point game at halftime and he had half of his passing yards at the half.

Look, he's not perfect and he's got a long way to go, but to call that game stat-padding is just sipping the kool-aid that the franchise wanted you to believe, along with all of the stuff they leaked about him.

The debate is absolutely fair, and given how Alex Smith is, to this point at least, the first player to come back from this kind of injury, you've got to treat it cautiously.  A calf strain can mean a player misses a week or two typically, but in Smith's case, it is his plant leg and the one saved by surgery, so that's out the window.

For sure, I think what happens is Alex starts the next game and then they’ll see how the leg is doing. If he’s looking like he did vs the 49ers, then Alex doesn’t make it a quarter and Haskins plays the rest of the game and the Eagles game too and Alex will be evaluated for the playoff game, should we make it.
