Does anyone know why he was released?  He was pretty good when he played for the Vikings.

According to the Detroit Free Press:

With little to play for in the standings, the Detroit Lions want to use Sunday's season finale against the Minnesota Vikings to take a longer look at some of their young defensive players.

The Lions waived safety Jayron Kearse on Monday, a move that interim head coach Darrell Bevell said was done because "there’s some younger guys on the roster that we want to be able to take a look at."

Tracy Walker and Will Harris, third-round picks in 2018 and 2019, respectively, are expected to see increased playing time.

Kearse started seven straight games for the Lions, but was inactive for last week's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he was a late addition to the injury report with a hip injury.
