Anchorage Defensive Free Agent Review:

S Budda Baker- I was planning on going into Week 3 of FA and spending big. I just didn’t think I would be shelling out over 11 mil per player across three signees. But here we are. Budda was a player I drafted into BDL and traded too soon for too little. Despite the price tag I am very happy to have him back. His versatility and pairing with Jessie Bates gives me two skill sets that will really have me be balanced and allow me to be creative. I have some depth I really like in Kam Curl, Ronnie Harrison, Xavier Woods and Jarrod Wilson but Budda gives me a whole new dimension. Plus I didn’t have to trade for him back!

INT Leonard Williams- Williams was someone I always had my eye on when looking over this FA class. I was originally going after Shaq Barrett but once he went up to 17 mil I decided to focus on Williams and the versatility he gives me up front. I can run 2-4-5 with him and Vea/Lawrence inside. I can run a 3-4 with he and Lawrence at ends with Vea at NT or just a traditional 4-3 with him at 3Tech. There are many ways I can utilize Big Cat in my defense and I’m thrilled to have him onboard as an interior pass rusher and all around player.

Edge Romeo Okwara- Okwara was a late addition to my interest but I am very excited to get him. I know he is not Shaq Barrett but getting he and Williams for 1,167 more per year than what Barrett went for I am happy with that combo instead. He had 10 sacks last season and gives me versatility as a 4-3 end or 3-4 OLB which he will play for Detroit this season. He allows me not to have to depend on my young guys in Chaisson and Ojulari too soon and can form a good rotation with Sam Hubbard who can be a run down specialist across from Bradley Chubb.

Overall I am happy with these three additions. Unlike the primary depth of my offensive signings these three defensive signings will be starters and hopefully very impactful difference makers for me week 1.

Budda is a difference maker. He was well respected before 2020 but he stepped it up a great deal in Vance Joseph’s scheme. Excellent coming down hill, soft hands, can operate as last line of defense and great blitzer. He is an impact player.

Leonard Williams has been a rock against the run since day one so that 11 sack season made him a rare young player with that much talent to reach FA. If he can even maintain half of that pass rush in coming years, that’s a great deal. Pairing with Vita Vea should be exciting.

I like this guy. Jack was great for you. Was he a 50% bid only too? He was on my radar also depending how other players bidding went.

We wanted to improve against pass catching RBs and TEs. Derwin James returning should help defend the middle of the field this year too. Also helps against mobile QBs without having to completely change our weekly scheme.

We’re going to use the Shark tank for a new starter or experienced backup QB, and potentially look at some offensive line help.

Glad to address the defense after letting chances pass in the draft.

Raleigh's roster and trade block are updated. 28 players added between Draft, Free Agency and trades.

If you are interested in a possible trade, asking me what I want for a player probably isn't the best way to start because I'm still figuring out values and I'll tend to overvalue vs undervalue at the start. So if you are interested in a trade block (or other player) send an offer.

Here is my current trade block

S/LB- Landon Collins

EDGE- Von Miller

EDGE- Dee Ford

G- Will Hernandez
