feel like the refs owe the Colts a good 5 seconds after the review but w/e

Yep. The clock was stopped with Pittman going out of bounds with 19 seconds left, the refs kept the clock running down to 12, stopped it, and set it to 14. 5 seconds were stolen.

A lot of pieces to like going forward, for sure, but that offense was painful. Gotta find the next guy at QB rather than a stopgap that just doesn't have enough left.

Right. Get a solid QB and the colts probably win this game. Even though rivers played well, it wasn't nearly enough

How? How many seconds do you think it takes to complete a 15-20y throw in the middle of the field? Then the defender would make sure he was down with contact for a second at least, then all the fatties would need to sprint out of the field and the hardest part is the special teams, long snapper, kicker and holder would need to be on their spots and kick it without even aiming. That's not feasible.

To be fair, I don't know how there's only 14 secs left.    They whistled the play dead at 18 secs after Pittman's catch.   But given what happened with the Pascal non-fumble, I'm not going to suggest IND got hosed lol.   Just that if there's 18 secs left, it opens up the potential for a play downfield and a quick spike. 18 secs is very doable, just don't have the WR's run deep routes, so they can get to LOS quickly enough.

Rivers played as well as he could have.  But the limits he has were on full display for the 2 min drill.  And on several deep balls.

He's a guy who's going to help a regular season team win 9-11 games.   But he's also not a guy who can bring a team back on his own arm talent lightning quick.  Before ppl point out the 2 comeback TD drives - they were set up with 40+ yards in running, with huge chunk plays.    That's why IND couldn't afford to get behind.  They almost pulled it off, but the reality is that when IND looks to their 2021 chances, if they want to be a decent team that is playoff-bound, they can stick it out with Rivers.   If they want to be a playoff team that can go deep in the playoffs - they need to upgrade the position.

The other area they can decide to fix - Reich's game management.   He should take a long hard look at his 1H game management - it ends up being the difference.   And that's no coincidence IMO.   In playoff games, margins are magnified - and Reich's 1st and goal playcalling for both drives in the 1H were seriously bad.   As was his decision to pass up the FG.    Ironic it's the difference.

As for BUF - their Achilles will always be facing teams who can run the ball and shorten the game.   It almost worked.  But full credit to Allen, he was a a baller (just don't always need to be the hero protecting a lead next time).    They would be well-served by facing PIT next week.

This is a very well framed post

Rivers is limited by his age and certain declining abilities. He played EXTREMELY well based on the tools he still has. If you have expectations of him being Mahomes, then you will be disappointed, but you know what Rivers is, and this was pretty good Rivers today. It just wasn't enough and when they NEEDED to rely on the passing game he just didn't have it

No shame in that

Yep. Weird game from Reich.

It’s a 50/50 decision that deep. You can turn it over on downs but getting that first down on the ensuing when pinned deep is probably the hardest 1st down conversion in football. You kick at 13-7, and the Bills get the ensuing 25 and still go up at 14-13. You have to be aggressive there. Just didn’t make the play.

This is exactly it

People are SOOO results oriented

Reich made the right call on the 4th and goal, and he made the right call to go for 2

The fact that they didn't convert doesn't chance that it was the call that gave them the best chance to win
