Nope Freeman to 3rd, Adams to 1st? Hell no 4.5 million to a backup 1B that cant play anywhere else? Nope If Atlanta had a DH, then sure, keep him. He would be a pretty descent one, but Atlanta is in the NL. AA said in a interview today that he is valuing defense over almost anything else because we have a ton of young pitchers, and a good defense is their best friend. Plus, I would not be surprised if we keep 8 relievers with us probably having three really young guys starting. That leaves 4 bench spots, and Suzuki is the backup catcher. Three spots left. OF-Lane Adams. INF-Johan Camargo(if he doesnt start), Jace Peterson(if Camargo starts). That leaves one guy, and that player needs to play multiple positions. Danny Santana could be that guy if we decide to keep him or we could go after someone with more pop. We clearly need abat off the bench and tbh id rather role with another on eof our young starters versus bringing in a fa. we're likely still a year away from not being awful and either allard or soroka should be ready in july/august to take a spot over. devils1854
Christian Colon was signed to a minor league deal. Can play 2nd/3rd/SS. Dont really expect him to make the team out of spring, but should see some time in Atlanta if he goes to Gwinnett in April.

GSUeagles14
from what it sounds like, braves are gonna roll with the young kids at pitcher and not bring anyone in. my guess is fried is the favorite to land the last spot.

Im ok with that. We have a crap load of starters that will be ready in the next couple of years. We need to see which ones are good, and plus Ive always been high on Fried(if he can stay healthy). WizardHawk
Another year to develop young pitching staff, then make big push in '19. Sounds like Braves will have somewhere in neighborhood of $75m to spend next off season. EDIT: Mark Bowman thinks Atlanta could have as much as $100m to spend next off season. GSUeagles14
like the trade for the braves. Freeing up a spot for Acuna is the biggest thing. Was hoping we just stick with the young guys at pitcher like it was floated, but mccarthys a pretty good get and hsould only last half the year. Id be pretty surprised if kazmir gets more than 2-3 starts.
devils1854
Opening day lineup? 1.Inciarte(L) 2.Albies(B) 3.Freeman(L) 4.Flowers(R) 5.Markakis(L) 6.Tucker(L) 7.Swanson(R) 8.Camargo(B)

There's still a chance we bring in a big bat at 3rd. Moustakas is seeing that there isnt a big market for him, and he might have to take a short deal, which would be great for us. It sounds like we are also still seeing the cost for guys like Donaldson. Will either of these happen? Who knows, but we will also have Acuna up probably by the end of April so we can send Tucker back to the bench.

Really think we need to cash in on some young arms and bring in yelich/donaldson/mooose... someone who can swing it. We have almost two handfuls worth of upside arms, even if only a 1/3 work out thats too many too keep almost. Just look at this list... Gohara Newcomb Wright Soroka Allard Anderson Wentz Toussaint Then theres backend rotation/bullpen guys like... Fried Sims Muller Wilson Sanchez Davidson Thats 14 guys total that have a realistic chance of making the majors. We need to cash in on the unknown while its still the unknown cause some of those guys will flame out.

Remember AA said in a interview back in November to not expect a huge deal with the prospects right now because he wants to form an opinion on them himself. Now was that all conjecture? Maybe, but we have been linked to a lot of names in a trade. Maybe its just checking in on a price of a guy, or maybe we are serious. I really do think we would be interested in Donaldson if he wasnt a one year rental. AA did bring him to Toronto, and he is still a great player. devils1854
Lets discuss this potential blockbuster. I dont know how reliable O'Dowd is, but he floated this out there a couple days ago. Seeing as its not official, Id expect us to add another piece. You might ask, why would the Braves get a huge steal like this? Well, Jeter and the ownership group is only about money. Prado has 2 years and around 28 mil left, Chen has 3 years and about 53 mil left, and Ziegler is on a one year deal worth around 9 mil. Plus, with the two deals the Marlins have made so far, they really havent gotten fair value, so they probably wont get it here either. I would expect us to have to add another prospect in the end if this happened. Yelich, Realmuto, Prado, Ziegler, Chen for Flowers, Newcomb, Allard, and Jackson/Pache(depends on if they want a potential catcher or a very toolsy outfielder) Inciarte(CF)-L Albies(2B)-S Freeman(1B)-L Realmuto(C)-R Yelich(LF)-L Prado(3B)-R Markakis(RF)-L Swanson(SS)-R Suzuki(C) Camargo(INF) Tucker(OF/1B) Adams(OF) Teheran McCarthy Chen Foltynewciz Gohara Vizcaino Minter Ziegler Ramirez Winkler Freeman Sims/Fried I think thats a wild card team right there
