I understand that. But the comment was made tonight, when he pitched pretty darn well against one of the better offenses in the league. And again, only gave up 1 HR.

To be fair, Teheran only made it 5 innings because of injury, so it could have been worse. 33.3% GB% for the game is awful.

On the other hand, he didnt walk anyone, so thats a reason for optimism.

Julio is 52 out of 72 in GB% this year, which is a little better than his career average. Some of the names that are lower? Robbie Ray, Danny Duffy, Max Scherzer, and Chris Sale. The difference in those names and Julio? They either strike out a high rate of batters, dont walk anyone, or both. Julio does neither this year.

Its interesting to think if Julio can get his numbers back down to his career norms next year if he is still with Atlanta, will he become a 3 WAR pitcher again? I doubt his HR rate will every normalize back to when he played at the Ted, so he might have a ceiling.

I think I'd be ok with bringing him back next year if we can get another pitcher that can be our #1, but if we can get something for him while he is young, it would open up another spot in the rotation for one of the young guys.

Just some thoughts since I havent been able to sleep.

Tonights start is the perfect showcase of what newcomb could be and his biggest obstacle.

He got tired at the end so i kinda put an asterisk on the last two walks. But he is just a little off with control, not even wild, just little misses. As bsd ss this start was, i think that can be fixed eith time and patience cause the stuff is nasty.

The Braves never get away from the Bobby Cox tree. After Snitker is gone, Im sure we will sign the ghost of Grady Little as our next manager.

If we do bring him back then give him some job security and not just a one year deal so he will play prospects without being worried about getting fired.

We also just traded Sean Rodriguez back to Pittsburgh. No clue why Pitt would do this deal, but Im ok with it. Opens up a spot on the 40 man, and we will need every spot this offseason because we have about 5 guys that we need to add to it or risk losing them in the Rule 5.

edit 1:Saves us 5.75 next year. I really think we go hard for Moustakas to play 3rd for us. He is pretty young and fits our timeline.

edit 2:Travis Demeritte, Luiz Gohara, Jacob Lindgren, Dustin Peterson, Ricardo Sanchez all have to be on the 40 this offseason so they arent open to the Rule 5.

Bringing over my midseason top 50 to this site. Look for big shakeups in the top 10 in a month for the end of the season/preseason rankings.

1.Ronald Acuna||OF||19.6 yr old
Top 10 Prospect
(AA).321/.373/.487, .166 ISO, 7.5 BB%, 24.5 K%, 6 HR, 18 SB
(A+).287/.336/.478, .191 ISO, 6.3 BB%, 31.7 K%, 3 HR, 14 SB
-A true 5 tool prospect, and he is showing it. He did hit a little of a rough patch at the beginning of June, but he has rebounded. He still shouldnt be moved any further this year.
ETA-LATE 2018

2.Kolby Allard||LSP||19.10 yr old
Top 25 Prospect
(AA)85.2 IP, 3.05 ERA, 3.35 FIP, 7.67 K9, 3.36 BB9
-Still not 20 years old. Has come to earth recently, after a dominant first few months. Has everything you look for in a top of the rotation guy. Definitely needs more time in the minors becoming more of a K guy.
ETA-2019

3.Ozzie Albies||2B||20.5 yr old
Top 25 Prospect
(AAA).283/.330/.444, .161 ISO, 6.2 BB%, 20.1 K%, 7 HR, 20 SB
-I was almost ready to dismiss Ozzie after a bad stint in AAA last year, and a bad start this year. He has turned it around since coming back from injury. He wont be a generational prospect, but he should be a solid starter.
ETA-Late 2017

4.Kevin Maitan||SS||17.4 yr old
Top 50 Prospect
(GCL)1.000/1.000/1.000, .000 ISO, 50.0 BB%, 0 K%, 0 HR
-Everyone knows about Maitan. He has the tools to possibly be the best in the game. It just depends on how he develops. He played his first professional game yesterday.
ETA-2020

5.Mike Soroka||RSP||19.11 yr old
Top 50 Prospect
(AA)88.2 IP, 2.23 ERA, 3.28 FIP, 7.31 K9, 1.93 BB9
-Soroka is more polished than Allard, but he doesnt quite have the upside. Soroka could be in the majors soon because of his ability to work the plate with all his pitches. Might not be an ace, but he should be a quality starter
ETA-2018

6.Ian Anderson||RSP||19.2 yr old
Top 50 Prospect
(A)65.1 IP, 3.72 ERA, 3.04 FIP, 11.43 K/9, 4.68 BB9
-Anderson has been a little more wild in his first full year, but he looks to have more talent than first thought. If he can command his pitches, he can fly through the organization.
ETA-2020

7.Luiz Gohara||LSP||20.11 yr old
Top 75 Prospect
(AA)29.2 IP, 3.03 ERA, 2.37 FIP, 10.62 K9, 2.73 BB9
(A+)36.1 IP, 1.98 ERA, 1.98 FIP, 9.66 K9, 2.48 BB9
-Gohara really makes it look easy with his delivery. Its almost as if he isnt doing anything until no one hits him. Im honestly not sure if he is a starter at the next level. He cannot get past 5 innings, and nagging injuries bother him.
ETA-2019

8.Kyle Wright||RSP||21.9 yr old
Top 100 Prospect
NO STATS
-Our first round pick this year. Is on the GCL roster but not sure when he starts his professional career. High floor guy that isnt going to wow you. Should fast track his way to the majors.
ETA-2019

9.Touki Toussaint||RSP||21.0 yr old
Possible Top 100 Prospect
(A+)79.1 IP, 5.90 ERA, 3.81 FIP, 9.87 K9, 4.08 BB9
-His ERA might not show it, but Touki is getting better. Strike outs are up. Walks are down. He is just getting really unlucky on batted balls. He is one of the most talented pitchers in the system, so he could move fast if he figures out everything.
ETA-2019

10.Joey Wentz||LSP||19.8 yr old
Possible Top 100 Prospect
(A)71.1 IP, 3.03 ERA, 2.56 FIP, 10.09 K9, 2.90 BB9
-Wentz has been as impressive as any other pitcher in the organization this year. He is still really raw though, and needs to be challenged by better hitters. His ceiling is unknown because he has so much room to mature.
ETA-2020

11.Max Fried||LSP||23.5 yr old
(AA)76.2 IP, 6.69 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 8.92 K9, 4.58 BB9
-Hasnt been great, but has been unlucky as well.
ETA-2019

12.Patrick Weigel||RSP||22.11 yr old
(AAA)41 IP, 5.27 ERA, 5.00 FIP, 6.59 K9, 3.73 BB9
(AA)37.1 IP, 2.89 ERA, 2.88 FIP, 9.16 K9, 2.65 BB9
-Doesnt have the upside of other pitchers, but could be a solid back of the rotation guy.
ETA-2018

13.Cristian Pache||OF||18.7 yr old
(A).287/.347/.349, .062 ISO, 8.5 BB%, 19.0 K%, 0 HR, 17 SB
-If he develops power, he could be a 5 tool guy. Speed and defense are his big calling card now.
ETA-2021

14.Alex Jackson||C||21.6 yr old
(A+).272/.343/.492, .221 ISO, 6.0 BB%, 26.9 K%, 10 HR
-Has tons of power, and is finally showing it. Less swing and miss, and more time behind the plate, and he can be a MLB starter at catcher.
ETA-2019

15.AJ Minter||LRP||23.10 yr old
(AA)3 IP, 0.00 ERA, 3.18 FIP, 9 K9, 6 BB9
(A+)5 IP, 1.80 ERA, 2.30 FIP, 16.2 K9, 0 BB9
(A)1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1.61 FIP, 9 K9, 0 BB9
-If he is healthy, has the best chance to be a lights out closer than anyone else in the system.
ETA-2018

16.Austin Riley||3B||20.3 yr old
(A+).246/.309/.399, .153 ISO, 7.3 BB%, 22.9 K%, 11 HR
-Power has been consistent, swing and misses are dropping. Could develop into a real prospect.
ETA-2020

17.Travis Demeritte||2B||22.9 yr old
(AA).220/.301/.402, .182 ISO, 10.4 BB%, 26.7 K%, 11 HR
-Strike outs have lowered this year, but they are still too damn high for a guy that will turn 23 when the season ends. Time is short.
ETA-2019

18.Lucas Sims||RSP||23.1 yr old
(AAA)90 IP, 4.00 ERA, 4.77 FIP, 9.6 K9, 3.0 BB9
-Looks like he is turning into who we thought he was before. Command is better though. Still looks to be a pen arm in the future.
ETA-2017

19.Kyle Muller||LSP||19.8 yr old
(R)8.2 IP, 4.15 ERA, 5.99 FIP, 9.35 K9, 4.15 BB9
-Young and projectable. Doesnt have the ceiling as his draft counterparts, but profiles as a starter potentially.
ETA-2021

20.Bryse Wilson||RSP||19.6 yr old
(A)79.2 IP, 2.82 ERA, 3.47 FIP, 8.7 K9, 2.37 BB9
-Did you know he was drafted in the 4th round last year? Has two very good pitches. Maxed out physically. Maybe a pen arm.
ETA-2020

21.Brett Cumberland||C||22.0 yr old
(A+).152/.222/.242, .091 ISO, 2.8 BB%, 47.2 K%, 0 HR
(A).263/.432/.531, .269 ISO, 13.1 BB%, 25.8 K%, 10 HR
-No clue what to think of this guy. Potential great power. Too many misses for a level that he is old for. Catcher, gets benefit of doubt.
ETA-2020

22.Drew Waters||OF||18.6 yr old
(GCL).200/.238/.450, .250 ISO, 4.8 BB%, 33.3 K%, 1 HR
-2nd round pick this year. Good, not great tools. Bonus if he can somehow stick in center.
ETA-2022

23.Ricardo Sanchez||LSP||20.2 yr old
(A+)68.2 IP, 5.37 ERA, 4.16 FIP, 9.04 K9, 3.80 BB9
-Somehow still only 20. Is getting better every year. Still probably doesnt make that jump to a potential starter. Can be high leverage reliever.
ETA-2020

24.Dustin Peterson||OF||22.9 yr old
(AAA).247/.320/.316, .070 ISO, 8.6 BB%, 19.4 K%, 0 HR
-Injured this spring. Now playing poorly in Gwinnett. Probably no more than a bench player at the next level.
ETA-2018

25.Randy Ventura||OF||19.11 yr old
(A).297/.341/.334, .038 ISO, 6.0 BB%, 19.2 K%, 1 HR, 26 SB
-If he had power, he could have a bright future. True 80 speed, with great defensive potential at center.

Went to a Braves game yesterday. Holy crap what a beautiful place to watch baseball. I also went to Target Field during it's inaugural season. What makes Suntrust better imo is the restaurants, bars, and places to sit and watch the game within the "little town" they created.

Ive been to Target, beautiful place, but yeah, you're right. The Braves are going after "The Wrigleyville" experience. Get people in, and just stay all day. Plus, they are doing concerts and other events in the offseason there as well.

Remember that guy I wanted from the Twins in the Garica trade?

He's dominating in Danville.

8 IP, 1.13 ERA, 13.5 K/9, 5.63 BB/9

The Twins really babied him, so he is already 19, and has barely over 100 total professional innings, so he might be a little late bloomer, but he will be a major leaguer.

Ive got around 106.5 million for the salary for the 34 guys that we have on the 40 man. Lets say we add 5 more minimum salary guys, thats around 110 million. Our team salary this year is right around 122.5 million. Plus, we all know that our payroll is going up with the new stadium and new tv contact in a couple years. We can also DFA Ian Krol and Adonis Garcia to save around 1.5-2 mil.

All this means, that we will have room to add all the guys we want to the 40 man roster, but someone like a Lindgren or Peterson could be left off for Acuna or Soroka.....To the main point, we will be going after one free agent to help this team more than likely. Its Mike Moustakas. You add in 15-17 million for him, and our payroll is right along with projections.
