Post June 1 and that isn't on the books for 2022 and dead cap would be just the $24million. Plus, he's a LOT more attractive to trade in 2022 both because of salary and (hypothetically) because his trade value will never be lower than it is right now. Forge
Just now, incognito_man said: yes, vs $74million in dead cap releasing him now (or $59million next spring) Or just trade him now, take a 33 million dollar dead cap hit in 2021 and be done with it completely? Dont' pay him another dime in real money (if they wait, they are paying him about 29 million more in real cash give or take, which may be a factor in a season of lost revenue...I can't say how owners react to that though) and your dead cap is over and done with and off the books. Like, I get why someone wouldn't move on. The optics are terrible if he succeeds elsewhere, but just because he succeeds elsewhere doesn't mean he'll succeed in Philly. Even people who are bullish on Wentz have to be a little concerned about sticking him there for another year and that not hindering his progression. The team is already a ton over the cap, so they are going to lose more pieces off a team that was that bad this year. But he's going to have trade value to teams, so that is not a problem. Is it going to be a first? No. But it'll be solid enough. I think probably a mid rounder + conditional in 2022 based on performance. If they really think that they can turn him around in philly, then yeah, they will probably keep him. But I'm of the belief that is simply not going to happen, so I'm moving now rather than putting him in a position to fail and making me eat the dead money anyway while also paying him a ton more in real cash. biggie.
Draft a quarterback, sign a veteran. Three way competition between those two and Hurts and best man becomes the sgarter.

Mike Sando has said this, Kevin Clark. Peter King has said he's talked to a GM who said that he would investigate and research it. He's going to have interest. Mortenson also recently stated that multiple teams are expected to have interest. Kudos to @jrry32 because he called this in the initial GDT where I brought up his potential trade like 2 months ago lol.
Shady Slim
they could give wentz the brock osweiler treatment and the team who takes on his contract would still be getting robbed blind

Set fire to 2021 cap as much as possible without spilling into 2022, roll with Hurts to see if there is something there...Draft Howell, Slovis, whomever is at the top of the 2022 draft if necessary. Hard one year reset. Teams have done this recently and been successful soon following. The dolphins carried nearly 35% of their cap as dead money last year. The 49ers did something similar in 2017 where it ended up being like 30% or something. For the eagles, it will likely be even way more, but this is an aging roster that has potential issues post 2021 because of the voided years that will hit in 2022 after guys play out their contract (Malik Jackson, Brandon Graham, Jason Kelce for example are not under contract in 2022 yet will account for 8 million (jackson), 7.2 (Kelce), and a little over 12 million on their cap for that year. That's 27 million in dead money already in 2022 if they don't bounce those guys in 2021. But how attractive will Wentz be to another team? His poor play this year and that contract will be a problem. Unless they can find a GM out there willing to take a chance here I have a feeling the Eagles aren't gonna get much for him (if anything). The Eagles might be stuck with one of the more expensive backups in the league.
