Jaguars Pass Defense - Elite Territory

Jokes about Super Bowl aside, this is actually more impressive than the stat suggests.

2003 was the last year prior to the strictly enforce illegal contact, pass interference, and defensive holding. Due to that, passer ratings ballooned as teams were less able to create passing turnovers.

Not one team since that point has played better against the pass than the Jaguars have through this point this season.

Still crazy that we only brought more than 4 rushers once against Ben and we still managed to create 5 turnovers. (The Poz blitz did lead to the Jalen INT).

This defense has the potential to be great. Aside from Telvin (who should be locked up) and Colvin, they are all under contract for a good while.

Yeah, Calais has done wonders for this front. He has been dominant himself, but what hes done for Yannick, Fowler, etc. has been awesome. Not having to use more than 4 man rushes to get pressure isn't something I've seen as a Jaguars fan in forever, if ever.

The coverage being so insane has a big hand in the improved rush, but its still worlds better than its been since I can remember.

I understand the excitement but my expectations are still tempered. We have played:

Savage:Watson

Mariota

Flacco

McCown

Roethisberger

2 of them are pretty good but not exactly a great bunch

Yeah.  Haven't exactly faced a murderers row of high octane passing games firing on all cylinders as yet.

Still awesome though.  And the eye test backs up the stats.  This defense looks legitimately intimidating for the first time in forever.

I'm really excited to see how they fare against that Rams offense that's been firing off pretty well so far this season.  Should be a fun one.

Think you can pick apart most every offense we play if we shut them down. They have straight dominated. Just because we haven't faced Brady or Rodgers shouldn't make us feel less confident about what is happening. There's defenses that get poor offenses for the first 5 games all the time yet you don't see stretches like what this defense has done.

Either way, this secondary is special. Jack/Telvin have been very good. DL has gotten a lot of pressure/lead the league in sacks. There's a lot to feel very good about.

Yeah, I mean who knows for sure and our offense likely is going to hinder how far this team could go with the defense but being in that class statistically is pretty insane. Think all the stats backing up this secondary is worth getting excited for.

Plus I'm still pissed about that Jet game. 2 huge gains/mistakes allowed on defense
