He's only 32 and retiring?

This isn’t surprising he was considering retiring before this season and Ballard kinda convinced him not to. It’s also nice he retired before the draft so we can find his replacement. Also saves the Colts 16 million in cap space.

Has he missed a lot of time? Trying to figure out how big of a blow this is. Are we in "colts are looking for a first round tackle" range (assuming they didn't find someone in FA), or is there already a guy in place that the Colts have been using?

The former. For as good as the Colts line is when healthy, they have absolutely no depth whatsoever. We were probably looking at a LT in the draft even without Castonzo retiring.

I think this kind of seals that we'll look for a QB in free agency and a LT with our first pick.

Anyway cheers to Castonzo. He and Vinatieri were the only two guys to play under all three regimes we have had in the past 20 years. Definitely a ring of honor guy for sure.

That and OL seem to retire early because of their health. Thats a very physical position to play every snap for 10+ years. Its good to hang them up before the physical decline happens and injuries start to pile up when your 33-35 years old.

31-32 years old seems honestly like the best time for any player to retire. Its just not worth putting your physical and mental health through the NFL past 32 years old for non-QBs.

Can't fault a guy for wanting to retire while he still has his health.

Enjoy retirement, big guy!

His season ended on a ankle injury that required surgery... so still having his health is subjective I suppose.

But he could‘ve had a lot worse than an ankle injury to end things.
