A TRAIN 89
Kyle Smith is just another guy in an organization that has underachieved for 25 years. He couldn’t be more replaceable. He has never been brought up for any open GM position. Ever. Let’s not overrate him. It’s not like he’s McVay and every team is trying to poach him. Yes drafts have been much better of late, but that’s largely because Bruce Allen was stripped of his role in football ops. ...and for those upset that Rivera is hiring his guys, look what players, notably the leaders, have to say. They’ve never spoken this highly of the coaches like they have with this staff. I’m perfectly ok with moving on from him if that’s the direction they want to go. Look at all of the talent added to this roster in the last two years when the draft was under his control. And every team wasn’t trying to poach McVay from what I can remember. The rams were his only interview.

Had a lot of juice heading into that offseason and the Rams pounced in him. Nobody outside the organization cares about Kyle Smith. Nobody. Maybe his mom, but that’s it. Not one time has his name been brought up for an open job. Plus, him sticking around this long in a crappy organization might raise some eyebrows. All I’m saying is he is replaceable. Well of course everyone is replaceable but Kyle Smith has done most of the work that’s built this team over the last 6/7 years. He’s been the biggest part of the work in the draft for this organization since 2014 and that’s been the greatest stretch this franchise has had since the 80s. That’s not nothing. naptownskinsfan
Now Eric Stokes is getting an interview, and Kyle Smith can’t even get one. This is crazy.

Rooney rule IMO. He also has the all important Carolina connection. I hope RIP is right and that Kyle Smith gets the last interview. However, it’s clear this isn’t a real GM role. Maybe in title, but not in responsibility. That’s why all the bigger names are counter viewing with the same teams who have GM openings. None of the candidates Washington are interviewing are getting looks elsewhere. Seems to be more of a scouting/administrator role than a true GM. Sounds like this is just the deal with the “coach-centric” approach. Rivera will have final say.

Not saying you are wrong here, but if it wasn't a real GM role, then why are guys interviewing for what amounts to a lateral move if it really is a scouting/administator role? Eric Stokes would literally be shifting departments if that, and the guy with the Titans would be making a 100% lateral move, as would a few other people. Again, not saying you are wrong, but there is a lot of confusion as to who exactly they are looking at for this role, as well as what exactly they are looking for. If it truly is a scouting/administrator role..........then why are we interviewing what amounts to a replacement for Kyle Smith? What did he do to deserve getting pushed aside? That is my biggest concern if what you are saying is true. And even though you view him as replaceable, don't you at least view that as strange?

A TRAIN 89
Looks like Marty Hurney will be the guy. Not an inspiring hire, but at this point it is no surprise. Maybe Kyle Smith stays?
lavar703
I’m done with Rivera. Wake me up when he’s fired. This is so dumb.
ripsean21
I’m not going to worry about losing kyle hiring a 65 year old that Ron’s comfortable with. It’s only a mistake if we Lose and don’t work with Kyle to grow into the position so I’m not going to jump the gun but it’s a bad hire for the simple fact Ron had had multiple chances to win with Hurney and I don’t see how this improves our FO unless it is to groom Kyle. If Kyle is promoted to assistant GM then that looks better but I think it’s just another voice. Kyle has earned his keep here. Ron won year one with him here so unless this is to groom Kyle this move is a horrible move Edited January 18, 2021 by ripsean21
