Future GB Free Agents

Just wanted to get an idea of how our free agents look going forward. Here's the breakdown:

2018

Top Priority to re-sign this offseason: Davante Adams

Next highest: Burnett, House, Linsley

Outlook: This free agent class is very manageable. I don't see us incapable of signing a guy we would like to based on money constraints.

PLAYER (12) POS. AGE 2017 AAV STATUS
Morgan Burnett SS 28 $6,187,500 UFA
Ahmad Brooks OLB 33 $3,500,000 UFA
Davon House CB 28 $2,800,000 UFA
Jahri Evans G 34 $2,250,000 UFA
Don Barclay RT 28 $1,025,000 UFA
Davante Adams WR 24 $983,351 UFA
Ricky Jean Francois DT 30 $900,000 UFA
Quinton Dial DT 27 $775,001 UFA
Richard Rodgers TE 25 $690,254 UFA
Corey Linsley C 26 $601,250 UFA
Demetri Goodson CB 28 $580,788 UFA
Jeff Janis WR 26 $567,848

UFA

2019

Top Priority to re-sign this offseason: HHCD

Next highest: Nelson, Monty, Ryan

Outlook: This is a fairly weak FA class with no 'must re-signs' I can see. HHCD is the closest if he gets it together. I suspect AR will get an extension this offseason both because there should be extra money and because the following year's FA class is really good, we may need to lock up guys a year early the following year because the 2021 class is insanely good.

PLAYER (10) POS. AGE 2018 AAV STATUS
Clay Matthews OLB 32 $13,200,000 UFA
Randall Cobb WR 28 $10,000,000 UFA
Jordy Nelson WR 33 $9,762,500 UFA
HaHa Clinton-Dix FS 25 $2,084,625 UFA
Lance Kendricks TE 30 $2,000,000 UFA
Quinten Rollins CB 26 $935,642 UFA
Ty Montgomery RB 25 $737,199 UFA
Jake Ryan ILB 26 $684,170 UFA
Brett Hundley QB 25 $625,908 UFA
Aaron Ripkowski FB 25 $596,599 UFA

2020

Top Priority to re-sign this offseason: Aaron Rodgers

Next highest: Daniels, Martinez, Bulaga, Crosby

Outlook: Very top heavy obviously with Rodgers, but he will be taken care of. Daniels and Bulaga will be 30 but should age well enough to be worth another contract. Martinez, I bet, will actually be the 2nd most important re-sign. Randall, Lowry and Davis could all show something as well and be important guys to bring back, but there will almost be someone from the 2021 class that gets an extension a year early.

PLAYER (12) POS. AGE 2019 AAV
Aaron Rodgers QB 35 $22,000,000
Mike Daniels DT 30 $10,250,000
Martellus Bennett TE 32 $7,000,000
Bryan Bulaga RT 30 $6,750,000
Mason Crosby K 35 $4,025,000
Damarious Randall CB 27 -
Jason Spriggs T 25 $1,251,073
Kyler Fackrell OLB 27 $783,582
Dean Lowry DE 25 $680,848
Blake Martinez ILB 25 $680,848
Trevor Davis WR 24 $641,794
Kyle Murphy T 23 $616,535

2021

Top Priority to re-sign this offseason: Kenny Clark

Next highest: Bakhtiari, King, Jones, Jones, Taylor

Outlook: An absolutely STACKED class. Will almost certainly need to extend one or two of these guys a year early to retain everyone we are likely going to want to retain. The downside of trading down for King is he will be a FA the same year as Clark. If you get 2 studs like that in back-to-back years it can wreak havoc 4 years later. This may end up being the best FA class of Rodgers' tenure in GB. You could have a stud LT, DT, LG, CB, S and RB if those players either maintain or keep progressing as they have been.

PLAYER (10) POS. AGE 2020 AAV STATUS
David Bakhtiari LT 29 $12,000,000 UFA
Lane Taylor G 30 $5,500,000 UFA
Kenny Clark DE 25 - UFA
Kevin King CB 25 $1,770,221 UFA
Josh Jones S 26 $1,058,353 UFA
Montravius Adams DT 25 $819,194 UFA
Vince Biegel OLB 27 $773,436 UFA
Jamaal Williams RB 25 $741,498 UFA
Aaron Jones RB 25 $650,484 UFA
Devante Mays RB 25 $618,759 UFA

2022

PLAYER (1) POS. AGE 2021 AAV STATUS
Nick Perry OLB 27 $11,800,000 UFA

Haha gets a 5th year option before an extension would be my guess.  Not sure what the price for that is on him.

we already exercised the 5th year option, so he's a free agent after that (in 2019). Price is $5.6million base salary next season.

Isn't money tight for next year? Cant imagine all of those guys coming back. I think Linsley is let go, Burnett is playing awesome I hope they bring him back even though that is no their tendency. Gotta pay Adams, also not sure how you dont pay House.

Spotrac has GB with $148M in committed contracts leaving $19M from where the cap is now at $167.  WIth the rollover of $10M from the 2017 season that puts it at about $29M.  If the cap goes up to around $180M (what I read was a projection a while back), that gives them around $42M

Projected cap for 2018= $180M

GB 2017 rolloever = $10M

2018 GB effective team cap = ~$190M

GB 2018 salary committed = $148M

2018 cap space ~$42M

For 2018

Adams, Linsley and Burnett are musts, House would be nice as well (pending how he does the rest of the year.)

2019... Nelson, Clay and Cobb... That's a lot of money potentially off the books. I think Jordy comes back on a discount, but I bet we could sign a guy or two better than Cobb and Clay with the money they're making.

( I know Clay is playing good ball now, but I don't think he'll age well)

Whoa never mind we can bring back Burnett and Pay house, and Adams we are set.

Is Linsely a must? A am no expert on oline play but hasn't he been having a down year and has a history of injuries?

He might not be a must, but who are you suiting up at C next year if you let Corey Linsley walk?  I'm not advocating breaking the bank for him, but he's got to be a bit of a priority.

Barclay for the time being, cheap, and then draft a guy.

Keep in mind the big elephant in the room is the upcoming monster extension for Rodgers

Yep, I think that happens in 2019 for the reasons I outlined above . I'd guess a 3 year extension through 2022 (age 38) worth about 80million guaranteed.

So, here's how I view that...maybe I'm wrong...

His cap number is 20.9M this year.  Next year it is 21.1M.  No guaranteed money left.

If he were to sign a monster extension, likely that includes a monsterous signing bonus, which can and will be spread out over multiple years.

Might that reduce his cap number from 21.1M?  I can see scenarios in which is does, for a year or two, then escalates as the cap escalates.

Point being, I don't think that contract is going to hurt anything.

Along the way, the club has to figure out what to do with guys like Matthews and Cobb.  I like both, but really wish both would be on the club for a whole lot less.
