I want nothing to do with any QB who was benched for Geno freaking Smith.   Foles is better than Fitz.

Lol.  Imagine being Foles right now. First there were rumors about the Bears going after the guy who kept him on the bench (Wentz), and now the Bears going after the guy he was benched for (Minshew).  All of this after losing his job to Mitch.  Someone would need to check on him.

Foles seems a pretty well adjusted dude and he isn’t going to starve anytime soon. He’ll be okay.

Leaf is doing interview circuit.  Fairly clear there is a dude with some issues and demons.

When you see him in person he is a monster athlete.  What you would want a QB to look like in a vacuum.  You can see why so many ignored red flags based on potential and why there were so many arguing for him over Manning.  He had him in every category save the mental aspect.

Leaf made a really good point in a PFF interview.  He said NFL teams try to help QBs succeed now as rookies whereas before it was just sink or swim attitude.

SD fired coach and had opportunity to hire a highly successful college coach that ran offense Leaf knew backwards and forwards and hired a defensive college coach instead that changed everything and brought in foreign concepts to him.

Well...he's not wrong.

But, being a sociopath kind of complicates things. Exponentially.

Well, that benching had a lot to do with seeing what they had with Geno.

They already knew what they had in Geno, and it wasn't good.  Geno started 2 years and then lost the starting to Fitz and then Fitz was benched for Geno after about 8 games when he was leading the league in INTs by a wide margin.  Then Geno was benched again for Fitz.

It was kind of like the Mitch/Foles thing here last year.

And Foles is better than Fitz...but that's kind of in a vacuum sort of deal. Foles is really immobile. He can put up big numbers with a good (doesn't even have to be great) line in front of him. Fitz is better (as are most NFL quarterbacks) on the move, or the run.

Foles has better touch and better control.  Both are statues in the pocket, neither can anticipate routes, and both are easily fooled by defenses.  Neither of them are starting quality QBs.

Oh, no doubt.  Foles will be fine.  He seems like a very good guy who really goes the extra mile to look out for people around him.  He makes this keto coffee for everyone on the team to help keep their diets in check and by all reports acts as a sort of mentor to a lot of players. Hell, I even drink his coffee now lol, save for the keto balance ****, the oil is too strong, and I don't need it.

Leaf is a head case.

Well of course they do.  That was the whole point of adding a rookie pool in 2011.  Before that players were getting paid like a top-3 player before they even set foot on the field, and it was crippling teams cap wise.

But now, all rookies are getting paid at a fixed rate, including QBs, and teams are rightfully taking advantage of it by trying to build a SB caliber team while the QB is still under their rookie contract before they have to choose to pay him top-3 money.

I call bull**** on this.  Leaf quit because he didn't have any real passion for the game and only wanted to get an NFL check.  It didn't matter if they had brought in Bill Walsh....the outcome would've been the same.

Yes, this is my point.  Leaf had a good point how system had changed.

Leaf was not going to succeed at any nearly any type of job then.  He lacked the maturity and mental stability.

Who do you guys think wins a QB battle between

Foles

Brissett

Trask

Foles and by mid-season they switch to Trask. I was not impressed with Trask at all during the bowl game. Without the elite TE prospect he looked very generic.

It would probably be a close competition, but they'd give it to Trask 'cause he's a rookie.

He was missing a lot more than Pitts, wasn't he?

I wouldn’t be too upset about Smith. Figure he’d cost less and wouldn’t cost us draft picks/a future. Would be funny pitting the 2005 1st overall pick against the 2005 24th overall pick a couple times a year.

also, it’s seems kinda wrong thinking back to it now that Smith and Rodgers are still trucking at a decent/good level and the top two qbs in the draft 2 years later (Russell and Quinn) have been out of the league almost a decade
