Falcons hire Arthur Smith to be their next Head Coach

Great play caller overall. Understands the importance of play action in this day and age and while he's not quite Kyle Shanahan with play designs, his route designs to get the likes of MyCole Pruitt, Anthony Firkser and others open was stellar.

No idea how he's going to pan out as a full on head coach(no one is going to know, obviously), but I suspect the Atlanta offense will be back towards the top of the league under him if nothing else.

Glad to hear your input. I also suspect Ryan is gonna succeed immensely with Smith like he did under Shanny.

Defense is gonna be a question for sure.

But where we’re at now defensively I’m really sure we can’t get any worse lmao.

I love the hire. Perfect fit for the personnel on the roster now, so I don't expect Ryan or Julio getting moved. Talent wise, this roster is more 8-8 than it is 4-12, so I think we could see a quick turnaround. It'll be interesting to see who he brings in at DC and if there will be a switch to the 3-4.

He's well liked, utilizes his best players properly, and gets the most out of them. His success calling plays in the red zone gets me excited, given the Falcons' struggles there for many years. I'm sure Ryan is loving this hire.

I know some are down after his second half play calling against the Ravens, but if we took everyone's worst game, nobody would be considered good. I wanted to rip Shannahan's head off for his play calling in the second half against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean he's not a great play caller.

Good start to the offseason with Fontenot and Smith. Can't wait for the draft. Lots of options this year at 4. Might be a great opportunity to trade down and reload, depending on how the board falls.

Sorry guys couldn't see anywhere else to out this...

Looking back do you guys think Dan Quinn was treated unfairly after the blown superbowl? Do you think he was a better HC than hr got credit for? I ask for the reason that he might be about to hit Chicago as HC...thanks for any insights.

Dan Quinn couldn't hire a competent OC after firing Sarkisian. Should have never let Sarkisian leave after 2018. Sark was doing a perfectly fine job in Atlanta that year and Dimitroff was failing him. Bringing Koetter in was his downfall.

So basically it was the downgrades in OC that hurt him...not so much decision making in game or the culture he had around the building?

His in-game decision making was fine. Downgrades at OC and poor execution at the end of games by the team hurt him. But the talent in the building wasn't that great as we saw this past year. Team was basically carried by Julio, Matt and other offensive weapons.

Be glad he’s not your HC. The guy can’t manage a game or a team. Really good DC no doubt about it, but he doesn’t have the capacity to be a head coach in the NFL imo. If he would develop himself more, maybe he could but as it stands now he just can’t cut the mustard and honestly I’m proud of him for knowing that about himself and returning as the DC in Dallas. I can’t think of a coach who’s blow more games with poor decisions than DQ. Dude obviously never even played Madden to manage a clock. Not that Madden is a good standard of clock management but even for him it would have been an improvement
