Super Bowl #1 Rematch

This is getting ahead of things quite a bit, but they are the two #1 seeds. Still, stuff happens. The Rams beat almost 4-1 odds to play Green Bay. This week the odds are closer to 2-1 against them. Using the 538.com ELO and 3-2 odds for the championship round games, the matchup probability is up to 20%, 4-1 odds. If you use 538's super bowl odds, the the matchup is 16%, 5-1 odds. So, it's a long shot that these two teams actually play in February, but it will be interesting to discuss historically.

Green Bay has been good a very, very  long time. In addition to the Lombardi era, they have a bunch of championships in the 30s and 40s. Kansas City is an expansion team, but one of the best. They had an AFL championship before the merger, played in two of the first four Super Bowls and came two missed short FG from thee of the first six. Both teams had success in the 90s, but Green Bay had more, rising to their peak, winning once with Bret Favre and coming close a second time. The first decade of the new century was good for the Packers, but not championship until the teens. The Chiefs were up and downand famously embarrassed in the playoffs. The last ten years have been the best in the history of the franchise, with the Chiefs peak coming three weeks ago when they defeated Atlanta.

This is not the outcome I am hoping for. It would also be nice to see the Saints get another shot and who would not want to see Brady vs Mahomes one last time? Still, the matchup would give a nice symmetry and it has been a long time since two truly elite QBs faced off in the Super Bowl.
