I would love to see AJ Green signed.  Should be a fairly inexpensive signing that brings veteran presence until Mile Boykin and Hollywood reach their true potentials.

Same, I said it jokingly earlier in the offseason but now I just want the cheap veteran and a good offensive line and defence.

AJ Green may have slowed down but he’s still a better 50/50 jump ball guy than Corey Davis or Emmanuel Sanders which is what I thought we were looking for. And I mean, the Bengals stink, I can forgive AJ for dragging rear on a horrible team with no QB or offensive line.

if AJ Green is brought in he pencils in immediately over Boykin and is a tier higher of play. Boykin is a good number 4 IMO as a faster Chris Moore type... then we can still have Hollywood as the man coverage buster and see what Duvernay does with his limited reps. With Mandrews being Mandrews that’s a pretty solid group.

I feel the need to remind folks that Hollywood is going to spend the offseason healthy for the first time in his career. He’s had foot surgery each of the last two offseason. I think a healthy Brown will elevate a lot.

I’m out with Green because he could possibly cost us a compensatory selection.

For that I’d want a stronger “sure thing” if that makes sense.

While i think it’s highly likely he was dragging because he was done with Cincy... he also very well could just be done. It’d be too high a gamble for my tastes. If we can’t get a legit impact option and the team REALLY wants to go for a veteran WR I’d rather add someone like Emmanuel Sanders (cap casualty) and then head to the draft with our eyes set on adding some more fuel at the position.

... that said, if we move Brown Jr for a high pick and it happens early enough in the offseason, I would probably prefer to skip out on the veteran WR all together and just aggressively attack the WR position via the draft. Between Pitts, Chase, Smith, Waddle... an impact option will be there prior to any pick acquired before pick #20 in the draft.

I don’t think, considering Duvernay and Boykin, we truly have room for a veteran and a rookie WR (within our Greg Roman offense) without talent being sacrificed. A veteran isn’t going to play special teams and if you’ve got one of the above rookie WR options, you’re starting them. Which means a veteran WR is going to be in the Willie Snead role... which would be circumventing opportunities from a young Duvernay that could have great potential in that area. I’m pretty much out on Boykin, but perhaps with these new WR coaches, there’s some salvaging left there that is worth considering.

So unless the team is running more 4 WR sets, I don’t think I would invest in a FA WR unless it’s at a great value and ideally only if they’re cap casualty options.

I'm meh on the Zeitler signing, he wasn't that good in 2020 and is 31 Y/O. Hopefully he can bounce back to form now on a better team though.

However, the Judon news makes me ecstatic. I've been scared that we were going to resign him.

FWIW-

Kevin Zeitler's PFF grades every season:

'12- 75.2

'13- 76.2

'14- 88

'15- 80

'16- 83.3

'17- 73.2

'18- 77.2

'19- 76.4

'20- 65.9

He has only missed 1 game since 2014

Let's hope his 2020 season was just a stutter step and not indicative of him falling head first into his over 30 Y/O decline.

It’s looking like we might be shopping Orlando Brown for Chark... In that case I doubt we draft a single receiver.

Can I ask why you guys are fine with letting Judon walk? Is it strictly the contract he is likely going to demand?

Genuinely curious as it looks like he will be a Patriot soon.

He's actually good, our fan base has a major hate on for him. My hypothesis is its because he's not Terrell Suggs but was asked to take up his duties in our defence (which is a lot of work).

He's good at a lot of stuff but great at very little, but he works hard and is awesome in the locker room. I like him but figured it was a matter of time before he was priced away from us. I think if he played for a team that utilized him differently he would have prettier stats. He will take some dumb penalties but it's part of his aggressive playstyle.

Suggs and Judon played different positions.

The fanbase's issues with Judon are simple. He's not a plus player against the run, he's not a plus player in coverage, and as a pass rusher he excels against TEs and on unblocked/cleanup opportunities. He pairs great burst with a strong football IQ and that combination allows him to impact plays on occasion when he does get those more ideal opportunities(TE/Unblocked).

There's also a stamina issue with him and he's clearly more effective in a deeper rotational role. So when you have a player that isn't plus against the run or in coverage and only a specialist rusher who's best in a rotation- you don't want to pay them close to max money.

This is fairly spot on and an honest assessment

The Judon hate has always been a little bit manufactured but I think it was sort of a natural part of the conversation around whether to extend him or not. At first people were thrilled to have a late-round contributor. But once the convos about paying him like a franchise player started people soured, somewhat understandably.

I think he's a classic good but not great player and I'm glad we're not paying him like he's a great player.  Always a worry it's another Zardarius Smith situation but unlike Smith, Judon did basically get a chance to feature in a prominent role and never really showed he was worthy of it. Beats up on bad teams but rarely seemed to be a difference maker in the big games.

Pats seem like a good scheme fit for him so I don't expect him to be a bust but at the end of the day he's an EDGE guy who doesn't really win 1v1. Incredible return on his rookie contract but breaking the bank for him would have been a waste.
