My guess is we'll see one more signing at either WR, IOL, or safety (Malik Hooker?), and then based on how much cap space we have left we'll go in on that Houston/Dunlap/Clowney/Ingram crew of older pass-rush specialist EDGES and see if we have room to fit one in. Hard to tell what the market is for those guys though, I could see that process dragging out till after the draft.

Clowney will get a small-ish contract this year and everyone will scream “why didn’t we get him for that!” And then he will stink for 7 games and go to IR.... repeat yearly.

Feel like we must be making room for someone...

Hope that's it, because if we're talking pure performance Fort has been such a gift for us and he's certainly the superior player to Board(Who we just resigned).

I mean, I just don't get it unless we're about to have another shoe drop. He's better than Board on defense and also plays ST well.

Chris Board may be the new coach favorite on the team.

Yeah it's a weird one. We only saved what, like 500k by signing Board instead of Fort?

Could be a vote of confidence in Malik Harrison too. If they like him and Queen to dominate the defensive snaps, then Board fits better than Fort in terms of having a settled role as a blitzer/dime safety.

I think that is what EDC is thinking. We invested significant draft capital on Queen and Harrison so I think it's time for them step it up.

Board struggled in sub packages last year according to most observers. I know Ken McKusick in particular had real issues with him. He was probably our worst LB from the bunch. So this might be a move we don't have clarity on for some time or until the next domino falls. 🤷‍♂️ IDK, it's a weird one.

I'd expect Fort to take a back seat as Queen and Harrison continue to ascend, but we got burned the last time we rolled with our two young options(Young & Peanut) and Fort was a savior on the heels of that decision. So I'm a bit surprised they'd roll the dice again and let such a stable, productive, and reliable option go like this.

Best wishes to him if he doesn't come back on a cheaper deal though. He's made some amazing plays for us the past two years. Certainly has come a long way from Lamar snatching his ankles in that joint practice against the Eagles and definitely overcame the journeyman club carousel hell he was in.

^^^Following up on this, here's Ken's take-

Rodney Hudson traded to the Cards, so I guess we can kiss that dream goodbye, even if it was unlikely from the get-go.

Very interesting to see Arizona as another team deciding you don't have to choose between WR's and OL's when building around your mobile franchise QB. Very interesting indeed...
