It's still a need for the future. WR is also a need in the draft, regardless of what we do the rest of FA. I'd say the same thing for DE, LB, and CB. Though we have done a decent job of making these positions not urgent needs. I'd still like to target LB, WR, CB, and #2 TE in FA. With both Niang and PTW, I'm sure even that much. We do need a C. We can get a starting C on day #2. WR and DE starters, probably not. As noted above, we have lots of raw depth at WR. If we draft one, he should be a likely starter. TE2 in FA sounds good. In real life we need one as well. Edited February 19, 2021 by onejayhawk

In real life we need one as well. PTW should not really factor in, he's a project and a long shot at that. Placing projects into slots is where teams get in trouble.. he's nice to have on the roster, and if he turns out to be productive, that's great. But if value falls in the draft, I'm definitely not ignoring it because we have PTW on the roster. Same could be said for OG, DE, LB, S, CB, WR. We have decent projects, but I wouldn't turn away someone else because of the guys we have.
onejayhawk
PTW fits on day #3 of the draft. We won't need to spend a 4th round pick on OT, because we have one. It's doubtful anyone better falls that far, anyway. C is a more pressing need, but most teams treat it as a lower priority, so we can hope for a Meinerz or Jackson a bit later. I get that you won't push aside value. We have some proven depth at OG, but if Vera-Tucker is there, you draft him. WR is different, because it's hard to find a WR who can step in and start. They tend to go quickly. It's usually mid second-season before they are comfortable, and sometimes longer. However, some multi-year starters, from name schools will fall because they don't test as well as others. We can be looking at them deep into the draft. Of the FA, Tahir Whitehead and Jacob Hollister catch my eye. J Edited February 19, 2021 by onejayhawk
RedGold
Bidding on; TE: Jacob Hollister CB Jourdan Lewis LB Ben Niemann Would put our available cap at $3,867,005. Which I'm fine with. Really only WR would be left as a hole and most of the WR names are well above what we can pay right now.
KC_Guy
@onejayhawk who do you consider the third starting WR on the team? And who would be #4 (just in case someone gets hurt)?
onejayhawk
That's the problem. The WR FA are either out of our price range or no better than the scrubs we have. And it's not something we can fix in the draft. At best we could trade up for someone like Bateman. In the real world, you play a lot more two TE sets and dump the ball more to RBs. Witness the Patriots. Of course, if you know of a Wes Welker or Marques Colston in this draft pool, tell the rest of us. Sure they improve their 2nd year, but their first years are pretty good. we don’t need a stud right away, they only need to fill what we lost in Watkins/Robinson.. which isn’t a ton . And it’s one of the better WR classes from top to bottom.
onejayhawk
Correct, we don't need a stud right away. OTOH, look at where Hardman was as a rookie. Hill even. What we really need is a glue guy who happens to play WR. That's why I threw Bateman's name out there. He's both a different physical type and he's likely to be there in the 20s. RedGold
Picked up DT Josh Tupou off waivers. He won't do much to the cap, should have nice competition between Saunders/Tupou for the backup at 1T.

KC_Guy
Nxet Round: WR Alshon Jeffery, DE Alex Okafor? Or wait until Sorensen drops to vet min?? 😉
onejayhawk
Go ahead with Jeffery and Okafor. Jeffery is a reasonable replacement for Robinson or Pringle. Okafor gives us four good-ish DE. Run support S come cheaper than DE. J
