SkippyX
Some of us remember Al Davis at the end when he lost his edge, but what he did with the Raiders from the Merger to Marino was incredible. Check out this ridiculousness over 17 years 3 Super Bowl wins 5 Super Bowl appearances 11 Championship games Steelers went to 6 in that time Dolphins went to 4 in that time. 19 playoff wins Only once were they one-and-done in the playoffs 175-61-7 (.735) Seven seasons of 11+ wins in the 14 game era One losing season in 17 years In 14 of the 17 years they had more than 2x wins compared to losses. Davis did this with 3 different coaches (Rauch(2), Madden(10), Flores(5)) This dynasty existed during the overlapping early 1970's Dolphins, 1970's Steelers, 1980s Redskins, and the start of the 49ers Dynasty. They had to face the Steelers in the playoffs 5 years in a row (2-3 including the Immaculate Reception loss) The Steelers could have played in 5 Super Bowls in 6 years but the Raiders beat them in 1976. The Orange Crush also beat Pittsburgh in 1977 The Dolphins 3 straight Super Bowl appearances were bookended with one-and-done losses to the Raiders in 1970 and 1974. TecmoSuperJoe
4 Super Bowl wins? Are you counting the 1967 AFL Championship as one?

SkippyX
The .735 win percentage is about halfway between Manning (.702) and Brady (.769) Starting QBs Lamonica(84) Blanda(1) Stabler(96) Lawrence(2) Rae(3) Pastorini(5) Plunkett (40) Wilson(12)
SkippyX
For Comparison: 1981-1997 49ers 5 Super Bowls 10 NFCCGs 21 playoff wins 185-68-1 (.730) You take the Patriots 6 SBs and the 49ers 5 SBs along with that sustained success, but those Raiders are not far off. BayRaider
Yeah we had the NFL’s best winning % ever up until the Mid 2000’s. That’s how dominant we were from the Mid 60’s to Mid 80’s. 1984 after the Super Bowl was a good season as well. Team has largely been meh throughout the 90’s and 2000’s. We had that great three year run from 2000-2002. Shame they didn’t get a Super Bowl. 2000 they ran into the 2000 Ravens in the AFC Championship, and Gannon was injured before halftime if I remember correctly. 2001 screwed by the Tuck Rule. And 2002 Al traded Gruden like a moron, and it cane back to bite us as he knew all our plays in the Super Bowl. 2003-2009 was one of the worst stretches of any NFL team ever. Just down right horrid. I’d still say the 2006 Raiders are worst than any 0-16 football team. Our Pass D with Nnamdi single handedly won a couple games. 2010-2011 couple average years because of Hue Jackson’s offense. 2012-2014 horrible. 2015 on the rise/average 2016 Solid team, but also over achieved 2017-2018 horrible 2019-2020 Average/On the rise Bleh. FinSting
It's a trip how many legendary Hall of Fame coaches were once known as the guy who "can't win the big one." Madden, Shula, Landry...they all had that monkey on their back for years. The Raiders had an incredible string of losing back in the day, they just couldn't get over the hump. Til they did. 1967 - Lost Super Bowl II 1968 - Lost AFC Championship game 1969 - Lost AFC Championship game (John Madden's first year as coach) 1970 - Lost AFC Championship game 1971- missed playoffs 1972 - Lost divisional game (Immaculate Reception) 1973 - Lost AFC Championship game 1974 - Lost AFC Championship game 1975 - Lost AFC Championship game 1976 - FINALLY! Won Super Bowl 1977 - You know what's coming right? BOOM. Lost AFC Championship game 1978 - missed playoffs, Madden retires

Nightime
I’m not sure if it’s hidden. That is the era where the whole “Raiders mystique” was built and they grew a huge fanbase

And he was more often than not losing to the eventual Super Bowl rep from his conference. 2000-2003 lost NFC title game 2004 - lost Super Bowl 2006 - lost Divisional game (non SB rep) 2008 - lost NFCCG 2009 - Lost divisional game to Cowboys (non SB rep) 2010 - Lost WC round to Packers (SB Champ) 2013 - Lost WC round to Indy (non SB Rep) 2015 - Lost DIV round to NE (non SB rep) 2016 - Lost DIV round to PIT (non SB rep) 2017 - Lost WC round to TEN (non SB rep) 2018 - Lost AFCCG to NE (SB Champ) 2019 - Finally won SB in his 20th year as a head coach. 7DnBrnc53
I would consider their run as being from 1967-85, the year that they lost to the Pats in the Divisional Round as a 1-seed. The turning point for the franchise, in my opinion, was the loss to Philly at home in OT the next year (where Marcus Allen fumbled). Since then, the Raiders have only been to the playoffs seven times (in 35 years).

Wow, what they did to the Bears on MNF to end that season was scary. The whole NFC was thrilled to not have to face them.

SkippyX
The 1976 Steelers team that they beat to get to that Super Bowl was 2000 Ravens / 1985 Bears / 1991 Eagles good on D. The Steelers gave up 42 points total in the 10 games before that AFCCG. The Raiders beat them 24-
