Since those spots (up to 51) get counted at min salary whether filled or not. Just remind people at the start and they'll only cut the guys they hate, not just the cheapos. Free Agency Continued The current layout for FA Bidding, involves the two sheets the first allows you to bid on either UFA or Resigning the second sheet if for reserve bidding. The UFA/Resign Bidding sheet Current System 3 bids that you can use for either UFA or to resign your own players. 1 fixed resign bid. 6 Reserve Bid slots Proposed FA Bidding System We've had several request over the years to create an additional bid slot that would allow teams to target another player at the same position if the team fails to bid high enough. I'm not opposed to this idea, but if not done correctly, it could really deplete the free agent pool rather quickly. My thoughts on this would be to only allow this optional bid if the bidding team fails to land any UFA targets. Certainly willing to discuss other options if we believe this option is too strict. 3 UFA/Resign bid slots. 1 fixed resign bid Optional bid slot that can be used to resign either a player if the fixed resign bid fails or to be used as a UFA signing, if all three of the UFA/Resign bid slots fail to sign anyone or if the limits for this are too strict we could base if off a percentage of the total signed each week. I'm still working on the formulas, so not all calculations are right. I'll have you guys test it out once I get those completed. Contract structure will now be limited to base and signing bonuses. Included subsequent low and high values for base salary. Last year, I believe it was @sparky151 pointed out an issue with the subsequent ruling for the second year of the contract contained. What I had done there was allowed the second year to have a higher subsequent rule to offset signing bonuses. However, it allowed teams offering just a base salary to benefit so I working on allowing the 2nd subsequent percentage to be increased based off the amount of the total signing bonus the team offers. Will be providing how to guides/instructions at the top of each sheet in hopes of making it easier to build contracts especially for the new guys. I've reduced the discount % for the formula to 8%. I've also decreased the home field advantage discount from 8% to 6% for the UFA/Resign bid slots and the reserve bid discount from 6% down to 4%. I just thought that the values were too high for resigning players. Example: Contract details Length of Contract: 3 Base Salary Amount: 30M Yearly proration: 10M Total Contract Amount 60M With the adjustment the contract value is as follows: Base Salary NPV % Rate 8.00% Base Salary NPV $25,770,970 Signing Bonus $30,000,000 Resign Discount %. 0.00% Adj. That would work too. I figured we could run this optional bid for the first 4 to 6 rounds and after that it could just turn into a resign bidding slot, giving us two after those early rounds. Looking at the team signings from last year, there were only a handful of teams that landed less than 25% of their signings. The original idea for this was if you failed to sign your top target (bid slot #1), this optional bid would come into play. So my question is, would you rather have it tied to bid slot #1 or based on a percentage of the total players signed for that round? My vote would be to tie it to the first bid slot, however I wouldnt restrict position if that is what you were getting at. It could and should be used not only to get a back up at a position of need but also to get a back up big ticket FA. Say you more or less only have the cash to shell out 1 big contract, it would be nice to be able to have a back up big ticket offer out if your first big ticket isnt there. Changes include New worksheet design Added guidelines for building a valid contract. Removal of roster and w/o bonuses to simplify the contract building structure. Adjusted highest bid formula Net Present Value formula excludes year one Reduced NPV discount percentage, from 20% to 10% (subject to adjustments) Included an optional bid slot (#5), if you fail to land your #1 bid slot target which can be used for the first 4 rounds, after which it becomes an additional resign bid slot. Reduced the number of reserve bids from 6 to 4. Reduced the resign discount % from 8 to 6% for UFA/Resign bidding slots and from 6 to 4% for reserve and resigning bid slots. The next topic will center around, extensions and restructures. Restructure In previous mocks, I used a restructure allotment, based on the team's starting cap. I think that it's been somewhat successful in preventing teams from abusing this option to free up cap space, especially for franchises that really don't need to free up much if any at all. The additional add to this event, would be to allow roster and workout bonuses to get converted to signing bonus. The criteria for player's to be added to this list is based on if they were on your roster at the start of the mock. If there are any adjustments you'd like to discuss let me know. Extensions I classify tcmd extensions into 4 categories; Std. / Acq. / Voided / Tagged extensions. Standard (Std.) Extensions Players currently on your roster with 2 or less contract years remaining. Acquired (Acq.) Extensions Players you've traded for with less than one year remaining on their current contract. Voided Contracts Labeled Void option free agents, where I offer the team the chance to either extend the players contract, or void. Tagged Extensions Player you franchise or transition tagged. All of these extensions allows you to extend a players contract up to 7 years, providing they aren't over the hill. The APY values are determined by how many years you are extending; if the listed APY value is greater than the below values, the greater of the two is used. Year 1 thru 3 = 5th year option - less than 10th overall pick value Year 4 = Transition Tag value Year 5 = non exclusive tag value Year 6 = exclusive tag value Year 7 = exclusive tag value * 120% Previously, the limits of how many a team could extend was limited to 3 standard, 1 tagged, and unlimited acquired. Rather than use this method again, I'd like to switch to the allotment based structure for the standard extension, allow the one tagged and limit the acquired extensions to 2, (primarily because of the amount of time involved in updating). Confused yet?... As confusing as the extensions are I dislike the idea of limiting these to 3 per team as most mocks have done for years. I just don't think that extensions are a one size fits all. If you guys have any thoughts on this topic, let me know. I do like the idea of using a similar allotment structure used for restructures, just not sure if it should be broken down into so many categories, or if we just allocated a single allotment for all types of extensions or if it should remain broken down into the various types.
