JetsandI
Come to think of that... Stafford wishes to be apart from Lions because Lions seem to be in rebuilding mode. Kind of silly for Stafford going to Jets if JD didn't bother to bolster the roster for playoff contender. Stafford may want playoff opportunity as soon as possible and stay that way. He is 33 years old now. Watson could want the same thing but he is still young and earns finest money. Right now, all he cares is a stability from a team. JD, Saleh and new command chain look good on paper but Jets are still far from proven track. The saga of QB will be our first chapter for Jets' plan. I can't wait until 2nd chapter because it will show us what will be Jets' stance for JD's vision.
Bobby816
Cant see us in on Stafford. He's a win now QB. And he isn't moving the needle hugely (like Watson would) that he'd take us to that win now level. Don't see us in the market for trading for a 33 year old QB.

mattmanz91
With all the reports out there that Watson wants out, especially the last one from Schefter saying the HC hire won't make a difference, why hasn't Watson asked for a trade yet? What's the point of waiting at this point? That's the only thing I don't understand.

Exactly, the whole appeal of Watson is to not have to worry about QB for the next 10-12 years
NYJets4716
If you can make a deal for Watson, obviously you need to do it. But it still sucks that we have so many holes on this roster, we kinda need the picks too. We'll see what happens. Watson is too good though. We just have holes in all the wrong places. QB, OL and D-Line/EDGE should always be prioritized and we just haven’t done a good enough job there. Having Watson as QB and Saleh as HC is gonna make players want to come here. If Watson really does want to play for Saleh, that shows you already the power of Saleh as HC bringing a positive vibe to the Jets organization. Now you have Woody Johnson back and you know how he loves going after stars, but at least Watson is a 25 year old primed star not a 35 year old past his prime star. KimuraGod
We can easily still be highly effective in free agency and sign some quality guys to fill in some of our glaring roster needs. Watson will cost more or less the same as Sam this year and even going into next year for a 25 year old qb his actual pay isn’t even as big as it could be. Add in the fact we have so many picks we can still add talent through the draft too. For me ideally we get Watson...bring in the likes of AR15, Thuney, Sherman etc. Give us a solid winning football team and use that momentum moving forward. In FA I wouldn’t spend big on one Edge but is money and get a few guys who can all rush the passer. Not bothered if it’s older guys as long as they get it done. Use next year to develop Zuniga and Huff. If we trade for Watson we without a doubt can use our other picks and money to make us a very competitive team. There’s no question of that

Also is the reason he’s not put in a trade request because of any bonuses or anything like that?! @JetsandI is usually the one in the know with figures and contracts. Would be worth knowing if anything precludes him being dealt until after the super bowl or anything like that?!?! All in 2021 if they move him now. Moving him on June 1st or later will allow Texans to cover one (current) of last 4 bonus years for 2021 and the rest of them for 2022. The total of leftover prorated bonuses is 21.6m. Watson' 2021 cap hit is just 15.9m. Because of that, Texans may want more lucrative return for Watson if trade has to be done prior to the draft. Makes me wonder if we could offer to take a player with a contract that makes up the difference. I am thinking of David Johnson. Houston saves $8.8M so they would gain an extra $3M. Yeah so holding on to him makes sense for Houston but not for Deshaun. Maybe he’s waiting on who they hire although the report of him wanting out regardless makes that a moot point.
