John Dorsey hired by Detroit as personnel

Let him draft guys and acquire others because he has a nose for that. Be prepared to part ways with him in 3-4 years after his ego gets in the way and he tries to control the entire organization including the coach.

He's a great guy to swing the tide though.

Nothing is a guarantee, but the people the Lions are pulling in to this regime are impressive, and a complete 180 from anything I've seen them do in the past.

It's a very unusual thing to see the Lions operating like a real NFL franchise, bringing in qualified people, people who other teams actually had interest in or have done something somewhere else.

Now we have to see how they handle the Stafford trade, that is the next big hurdle. If they can get a good deal for him, my optimism is going to ramp up sharply

Dorsey needs to understand that GM Holmes is going to trade Detroit's next two 1st-rd picks and a 3rd for Miami's #3 pick.

Lions are definitely not in a position to trade away a bunch of capital. Especially to get into the top 3 of a 4 QB draft when they're sitting at 7.

No, now is the time when we as Lions fans need to re-think things. We will have real NFL people making decisions now.

If they fall in love with one QB and want to trade up to 2 to make sure they get that guy (they aren't getting Lawrence, so anyone else), then I'm on board.
If they trade Stafford and decide to roll one year with a FA at quarterback while they build on D, that's OK too.

The Lions just earned at least one off-season worth of goodwill with these moves.

Give Dorsey 2-3 drafts/offseasons and you'll be in the playoffs.

Like others have said, great hire.

The timing of it was perfect as well. They hired him AFTER they hired a coach, GM etc. That way they can set a clear power structure and set expectations prior to him joining.

"we are going to hire you, but we do things X way" Then, if he doesn't comply, its an easy conversation on the backend. "we told you before you took the job that this was how we were going to do things"
