My defense was noticeably better this year, but the problem is I don’t have anyone who can score. Specifically, no one on my roster can shoot. I was 2 for 32 from 3 point range in the game. Yeah. Maybe Lamar Davidson would help, but I’m probably just still a year or two away. Not sure why the computer keeps simming me as a playoff team. So lets talk about the positives. Carson Meeks is massive. Like freakishly massive. For scale, take a look at this picture of him posting up Lebron James: Lol. He got outrebounded by their Center in this game but I knew he was raw as a rebounder. His length did make a big difference defensively under the basket. He’s so big too that he gets some easy buckets at times. Backup Center Malik Flowers had a good game too, bringing in 10 rebounds and playing good defense. Rookie SF Mel Grant felt slow and really raw, he’s going to need some time before he contributes much. I’m going to sim a few games in the series and see if Lamar Davidson gets healthy enough to play. If he doesn’t I’ll just sim this series out and move on. Although it looks like that Meeks guys feet are off the court a bit, which makes him look a bit bigger, but its clear he is still pretty damn big. And holy crap, the Cavs won by nearly 60? Ouch. I played better defense than Game 1, and I actually had more Rebounds than the Cavaliers. You gotta remember too I was going up against one of the best teams in the NBA. My inability to consistently score held me back, but that’s to be expected with a young team. Rookie SG Lamar Davidson is going to be good, he actually made a big difference for me defensively as he’s my best perimeter defender. His shot needs some work, but he does a good job getting to the rim offensively. Speaking of good perimeter defenders, I feel like Taurean Prince did a really good job on Lebron in both games. If I don’t find someone in the draft this year I’ll probably bring Prince back next year to start. Meeks and John Collins did a great job on the boards in this game, with Meeks pulling in 16 and Collins with 22 (Prince actually had 8 rebounds too). Collins is a good role player that is starting for me. He’s basically a rebounding specialist who gives me nothing on offense and hurts my spacing. Jeremy Lin also gave me nothing, and missed a ton of open 3 point shots. Upgrading the PF and PG positions need to be a priority for me this offseason. I’ve also been surprised with Deandre Bembry’s production for a second game in a row. He was one of the only guys I could get some buckets with. Running with Bembry/Prince as my two starting wings in a small ball lineup might be my best option for next year if the draft doesn’t pay early dividends. The top 5 odds are: 1. Suns (25.0%) 2. Hawks (19.9%) 3. Grizzlies (15.6%) 4. Pacers (11.9%) 5. Mavericks (8.8%) Who’s it going to be….. The Raptors jumped from 7 into the top 3. The Suns fell to 4, ouch. The Raptors landed #3, the Hawks got #2, and the Grizzlies have won the lottery. Since the pick from the Nuggets at 10 held that means I won’t get their pick until next year. Bummer. I also have the 17th and 20th picks in this draft. Unfortunately, this is a pretty weak draft. I’m just going to take the BPA available at 9, and then try to take two Forwards at 17 and 20. PG Christian Garrison is selected #1 overall by the Grizzlies, he’s the only player with A+ potential in this draft. The Hawks take C Willie Elliot at 2, he’s solid that’s a pretty good pick for them. PG Jeffrey Mark goes #3 to the Raptors, I guess he’ll be Kyle Lowry’s successor. The Kings have traded SG Buddy Hield and PG George Hill to the Suns for #4. That seems like a bad trade for both teams. The Kings then select PF Abe Wooden at 4, he’s actually a pretty good prospect with A- potential. Right after that the Wizards trade Markieff Morris and a 2022 first for #5. They take SF Tienchung Fung from China, a 67 OVR prospect with B- potential. Umm what? Time to sim to 9. He has the Acrobat, Difficult Shot, and One Man Fast Break badges, meaning he should be good at driving to the rim. Defensively he’s pretty rough, but he would give me a good upgrade offensively. His Potential rating isn’t ideal for a Top 10 pick, but this draft is lacking in high potential players. He has 77 SPD, 81 ACC and 83 Lateral Quickness, along with 89 Vertical. He also has the Acrobat and Posterizer badges, so he should be a dunking machine. He’s really raw though for a Top 10 pick. Those are the best available in this weak class. Clement makes no sense over Morrison, and I’d really like to wait to take Grace at 17 but in this class who knows if he’ll last that long. I think the choice is obvious though. With the 9th pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select: PG/SG Tim Morrison, Illinois-Chicago When in doubt take the guy with elite size. Time to sim to 17. Monte Clement was selected 16th overall by the Clippers. I’m on the clock. SF Al Grace is still on the board, but I’m going to make sure there isn’t anyone else I shouldn’t consider here. Also I can just take one of them at 20 after my pick at 17. PF Ed Hansen DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential 29 PF Ed Hansen 6'9" 241 7'2" La Salle 68 C INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS D- D- F A C- D C+ C- D+ Hansen is only 6’9” but he does have a decent wingspan. He’s also pretty slow and can’t do anything offensively really. He is however the best interior defender in the draft, and a pretty solid rebounder. He has no badges. The thing that stands out the most about him is his 99 Strength, which is crazy high for a rookie. For reference, the 2nd highest in the draft was like a 70. He’d basically be a career backup/role player but a guy off the bench who can provide some stout defense when needed. I think I’m going to stick with Grace here as I think he has the biggest upside. With the 17th pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select: SF Al Grace, Georgia He’s going to be pretty raw for a few years. I’m up again at 20. Both Carson and Hansen are still available. I know I said I needed shooting but Carson seems so limited as a prospect. Hansen at least will excel at something. With the 20th pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select: PF Ed Hansen, La Salle Old school banger for when I need some dirty work done inside. Another draft done. I think I accomplished the best I could in this weak class. Actually the Nuggets pick falling to next year was probably a blessing in disguise, hopefully that’s a stronger class. Rookie Guard Tim Morrison will likely play most of his minutes at SG this year. I'm going to have 4 new starters once Collins is traded, and my bench looks very different than last year too.
