This is a pretty good class.  Ellis Jr. looks like a future Superstar.  PG Bremer has great upside.  There are a lot of good shooters in the top 10, with 6 prospects having a B- or higher 3 point shooting rating.

I'm currently 24-33 which is 12th in the East.  I'm 3 games behind the 8 seed, but have been dealing with injuries.  I already have a ton of draft picks so there's no need to make any moves at the deadline this year.

End of the Season – Year 4

Final Record 32-50, 13th in the East.  My young roster and injuries really derailed my season.  I need to do better next year because my owner is started to get angry.  Hopefully my guys will continue to progress and I can land a new starter in the draft.

Draft Lottery

nba-draft-lottery3.jpg

I have four lottery picks this year: 4, 8, 9 & 10.  All are unprotected, which is great because landing the #1 pick would be awesome in this draft.  In total, I have a 19.2% chance of winning the lottery.  The top 5 odds are:

1.       Wizards (25.0%)

2.       Suns via Heat (19.9%)

3.       Hawks via Rockets (15.6%)

4.       Bulls (11.9%)

5.       Mavericks (8.8%)

Who’s it going to be…..

My picks at 8, 9 and 10 stayed put.  But my pick at 4 jumped into the top 3!  The Wizards have the #3 pick, the Suns have #2 and I won the lottery!  Woot.

Will do draft tomorrow night.

Pick 1 will be obvious.  Are you considering maybe pushing one or two of picks 8/9/10 into the future?

Ya probably that or a Euro stash. Really lucked out on the lottery at the best time.  A stud Forward who can score is exactly what I need.

2021 NBA Draft

NBA_Draft_logo_(no_year).png

Draft Picks

Round 1 – 1 overall

Round 1 – 8 overall

Round 1 – 9 overall

Round 1 – 10 overall

Well the #1 overall pick is obvious, but I’ll probably just go BPA at 8.  At 9 I’ll probably consider a eurostash and 10 I’ll look to trade for a future first.  But none of that is set in stone except this:

With the 1st pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select:

SF/PF C.J. Ellis Jr., Kentucky

G93o4Lm.jpg

Ellis is the real deal.  He has great size for a Forward and is a decent athlete.  His 81 SPD, 77 ACC, and 96 Lateral Quickness are decent for a SF, but elite level for a PF.  Considering his size and the fact that I have Bembry coming back, I think I’m going to play Ellis full time at PF.  His C+ Rebounding and Interior Defense aren’t ideal for a PF, but they should develop.  He pretty much has As across the board except for that.  He also has the following badges: Acrobat, Catch & Shoot, Charge Card, Corner Specialist, Deep Range Deadeye, Difficult Shots, Limitless Range, Lob City Finisher, One Man Fast Break, Pick & Popper, Pick & Roll Maestro, Pick & Roller, Pick Dodger, Posterizer, Putback King, Tear Dropper, & Tireless Scorer.

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
1 SF/PF CJ Ellis Jr. 6'10" 261 7'1" Kentucky 88 A+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
B+ A+ A C+ A- B+ C+ A- A+

He’s a legitimate Superstar and could be one of the best players in the league very quickly.

#2 overall to the Suns is SG Freddie Ingram, he’s a great athlete and shooter I think he was a great pick at 2.  The Wizards select PG Joshua Stinson at 3, he’s probably the top guy on the board but what are they going to do with Wall now?  The Suns have traded PG Eric Bledsoe and #26 overall to the Hawks for #4 overall and #34 overall.  They then select PG Guy James at 4, he’s 77 OVR, pretty solid pick and gives them two top tier Guard prospects from this draft.  PF Sherman Curtis goes at 5, which sucks cause he was the top eurostash in the draft.  SF Roland Turner goes 6 to the Spurs, Celtics trade up and take PG Joshua Bremer at 7.  I’m on the clock.

These are the top players available at 8:

SF Donnie Carlisle

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
8 SF/PF Donnie Carlisle 6'8" 234 7'4" Florida 73 B+

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
C- C- B+ C- D+ C C C+ C

Carlisle is pretty solid across the board and is a good 3 point shooter.  He’s not very athletic, only 55 SPD and 79 ACC, so I’d probably play him full time as a Stretch 4.  He doesn’t have any badges but does have a good wingspan and would add shooting to my bench.  He has one of the highest Potential ratings left in the draft.

SG Peja Tarlac

I forgot to write-up his skills, but it was basically Ds across the board except for A- PHYS, and C PER D

Tarlac is a 1-year eurostash and is one of the best athletes left in the draft.  He has 83 SPD, 81 ACC, 77 Lateral Quickness and 81 Vertical.  He’s an awful shooter and will likely only develop into a wing defender specialist.  The issue with that is his wingspan isn’t ideal.  I expect he will develop quite a bit before he comes over, since they seem to do that, but his upside seems limited to me.  The eurostash options in this draft are very limited.  He has the Lob City Finisher and Posterizer badges, meaning he should be an outstanding dunker.

PG Quinn Hood

DE Rank Position Name Height Weight Wingspan School OVR Potential
14 PG Quinn Hood 6'0" 158 6'7" Fordham 67 C

INS MID 3PT INS D PER D PLMK REB IQ PHYS
C- C+ D+ F C B+ D C+ C+

Hood an ideal pass first PG prospect.  He’s a solid athlete with 84 SPD and 91 ACC, and he should develop into a decent perimeter defender.  He’ll never be a great shooter though.  Where he really excels is with his Playmaking ability, and his Break Starter, Dimer, Flashy Passer, and Lob City Passer badges are basically the badges I’d handpick for a pass first PG.  His Potential rating isn’t ideal for a Top 10 pick though.

So that’s it, the computer did a good job of picking off the best prospects, so no one elite really fell.  Tarlac seems like a waste of a pick to me.  SF Carlisle is IMO, the BPA.  So since I have back to back picks, the question is whether PG Quinn is worth taking or just trading out of the draft altogether.  I’d really like a pass first PG prospect and since he’s raw he shouldn’t complain about being near the bottom of my roster for awhile.

With the 8th pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select:

SF/PF Donnie Carlisle, Florida

OZjmui0.jpg

He’ll be moved permanently to PF and develop as a Stretch 4 option off the bench.

With the 9th pick in the NBA draft the Chicago Bulls select:

PG Quinn Hood, Fordham

aXQwMzq.jpg

My starting PG has really low assist numbers, and I wonder if down the line it wouldn’t be better to replace him with a pass first PG option.  Hood could eventually be that guy.

*TRADE*

Detroit Pistons Receive

#10 overall pick

Chicago Bulls Receive

2023 Pistons 1st Round Pick (unprotected)

2024 Pistons 1st Round Pick (unprotected)

The Pistons were in the playoffs this year but have been bad in the past.  Either way, getting two unprotected firsts here seems like a pretty good deal.

9 picks in and I’m done with this draft.  One Superstar and two raw prospects with upside, not a bad haul.

*UPDATE*

Donnie Carlisle is actually has A potential!

Quinn Hood has B- potential.

Moving CJ Ellis to PF dropped his OVR from 88 to 85.

Moving Donnie Carlisle to PF dropped his OVR from 74 to 73.

Player/Team Options

SG Lamar Davidson (87) – $5.96 mil – He’s the best player on my team.

C Carson Meeks (78) - $4.10 mil – He’s my starting Center.

C Malik Flowers (77) - $2.77 mil – Quality backup Center.

Qualifying Offers

PG Briante Weber (75) - $2.17 mil – Just keeping him around in case of injuries, great perimeter defender.

SF Jonathon Pederson (72) – $1.96 – Again, just need more bodies in case of injury. He’s a pretty good shooter.

PF Lester Slay (75) – no offer – I have several new PF prospects and I’m out of roster spots.

Free Agency

SF Taurean Prince wants and extension worth $17 mil a year, so I’m letting him walk.

PG Briante Weber and SF Jonathon Pederson signed their qualifying offers.

This is a young and talented roster with a lot of upside.  I hope to make the playoffs this year and maybe even make some noise in it.  With Flowers out, I'll probably run a rotation with PFs Carlisle and Hansen as the two bigs.  I'm going to play PG/SG Tim Morrison as my 6th man.
