NBA 2k18 Franchise - Now GM of the Pistons

Recommended Posts

Ok let's try this again.  My first Franchise mode in NBA 2k18 was a disaster this year due to some poor slider choices by me and some glitches that needed patching that were beyond my control.  The glitches should be patched, and I'm running default sliders this time.

Welcome to my NBA 2k18 GM Mode franchise.  I previously ran franchises in 2k17, and 2k16. You can see them here:

http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=586067

And here:

http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=572757

Here are the rules I’ll be playing by to make things more interesting:

-          The regular seasons are way too long.  I will only be playing playoff games myself.  This means I could be potentially simming several seasons before I ever play a game.

-          I will only accept trade offers sent from the computer or offers from the computer in the trade block.  If I do manual trades its too easy to manipulate the computer into lopsided offers.

-          All draft classes will be auto generated.

-          I cannot trade for any picks after the lottery (so essentially I’ll never know the exact pick I’m trading for).

-          I will not trade UP in the draft ever.  Trading down is fine.  If I trade up a bunch of times and always land superstar players it makes the rebuild too easy.

-          I’ll be playing on Superstar difficulty with 6 minute quarters (set to alter stats to full minutes).  Simmed games are full 12 min quarters.

These are my standard rules I’ve been running for 2 years now, I’m also going to implement this rule for this year:

-          Since this year’s MyGM first draft class is scripted and seriously overpowered, I will be skipping the first draft altogether.  This will really slow down my rebuild, but I don’t want to have the scripted players on my team.

So you may be asking why do MyGM instead of just running a MyLeague?  I like the normal interactions with the owner and leveling my GM.  I understand that the leveling adds bonuses which help a lot, but that is why I’ve created so many rules to increase the difficulty.

Slider Settings

DEFAULT.  Seriously don't screw with the sliders, it messes everything up.

New Forum

Please be patient with me as I test out the format of this thread and the options the new forum provides.

Team Selection

I have decided to start my franchise as the GM of the Chicago Bulls. The reason I'm choosing the Bulls is because I don't care about keeping any of their roster, and I plan on replacing the entire roster with CPU generated players.

Strategy This Season - Year 1

The strategy this year is to make a bunch of trades and get future first round picks.  As I won't be drafting anyone in this first stupid scripted draft, there's no reason to intentionally tank but I'm sure I'll be awful anyways.  I would also like to unload the contracts of Robin Lopez and Cristiano Felicio.

*MEGA TRADE*

Atlanta Hawks Receive

SG Zach LaVine (80)

C Cristiano Felico (73)

SF Quincy Pondexter (73)

2021 Bulls 2nd Round Pick

Chicago Bulls Receive

PF John Collins (73)

SF DeAndre Bembry (70)

C Dewayne Dedmon (77)

2019 Hawks 1st Round Pick (unprotected)

2020 Hawks 2nd Round Pick

Lol I think this is one of the biggest trades I’ve ever made as far as moving parts are concerned.  The Hawks offered me their 2019 first and PF John Collins for LaVine, I countered, asking them to take Felicio’s contract in the deal, and they countered back with the final deal you see.  Obviously the big get here is the 2019 unprotected Hawks pick, which has a great chance of being a top 10 pick.  Collins is a decent PF prospect, and Bembry isn’t awful either.  Dedmond is solid too, I might try to flip him again once the 30 day waiting period is over.

*TRADE*

New Orleans Pelicans Receive

PF Nikola Mirotic (76)

Chicago Bulls Receive

2019 Pelicans 1st Round Pick (top 3 protected)

C Omer Asik (71)

This is a great trade for the Pelicans as it rids them of Asik's contract and gives them a decent big off the bench this year.  I'm getting the first from the Pelicans for taking Asik's awful contract, and it probably won't be a lottery pick.  Mirotic is on an expiring contract and I have a ton of PFs so no reason to keep him around.

PF Bobby Portis (77)

2020 Bulls 2nd Round Pick

Chicago Bulls Receive

2020 Spurs 1st Round Pick (top 3 protected)

SG Darrun Hillard (71)

Portis was complaining about not having enough minutes so I moved him.  The Spurs pick again is probably not a lottery pick, but should bring in a solid prospect.  Hillard is on a 2-way contract so I can play him in the D league.

All Star Break Update

I’m a surprisingly respectable 23-34 at the break, which is 12th in the East.  But, I’m only 1 game behind the 8 seed Knicks, so somehow the playoffs are obtainable.  I don’t really have any interest in playing the playoffs games this year, so I’m going to try to dump Robin Lopez.

OMG my idiotic owner in the scripted story traded the Spurs 2020 first round pick I acquired along with C Diamond Stone for C Marreese Speights and SF Wesley Iwundu.  I hate MyGM this year.

*TRADE*

Philadelphia 76ers Receive

C Robin Lopez (77)

2020 Bulls 2nd Round Pick

Chicago Bulls Receive

SG Nik Stauskas (74

This is a salary dump.  Lopez is old and expensive, he’s not in my long term rebuilding plans.  I’m basically paying the 76ers to take his contract with a 2nd round pick.  Stauskas is on an expiring, but if he’s reasonably priced I might try to resign him in the offseason.

End of the Season – Year 1

Final Record 32-50, 12th place in West, and 25 games out of first place.

In the future I will post end of the season stats for my players, but since I made so many trades (which mixed up my rotation a lot), and have no players of note I don’t see the point in posting them for this season.

Wow, very interesting result for the Raptors winning the East.  The Celtics also struggled and finished 8th.  The Lakers were completely awful in the West which is surprising.

Draft Lottery

nba-draft-lottery3.jpg

The lottery doesn’t mean anything to me this year except trade value as I won’t be selecting a player in this draft.   The top 5 odds are:

1.       Cavaliers via Nets (25.0%)

2.       Hawks (19.9%)

3.       Magic (15.6%)

4.       Kings (11.9%)

5.       Lakers (8.8%) – must stay in top 5 otherwise goes to 76ers

Who’s it going to be…..

My pick held at #6 overall.  The Lakers jumped from 5 into the top 3, and the Cavaliers fell to 4.  The Hawks landed #3, the Lakers have #2 and the Orlando Magic won the #1 pick

Brooklyn Nets Receive

#6 overall pick

Chicago Bulls Receive

2019 Nets 1st Round Pick (unprotected)

SF Luol Deng (74)

I'm trading out of this draft, and the Nets unprotected pick for next year is a big get.  The Deng contract sucks, but I have a ton of cap room.

2018 NBA Draft

I’m not selecting anyone in this draft because its scripted and dumb.

The Orlando Magic select PG Freddie Staples #1 overall.  That is bizarre, as Jackson Baldwin is obviously the best player in this class.  OK, the Magic then trade Staples for the #2 pick and take Baldwin!  Wow, they’ve immediately won this draft even though that’s really dumb lol.  The Hawks take Center Mirko Petrovic #3 who is a the final superstar in this scripted draft.

Nothing else to report form this draft.
