Not sure if this thread is dead because drafts are going on but man I need this in my life lol. We did our draft 2 weekends ago because organizing a new date for 12 people is freakin impossible: 6 keepers, H2H Categories: R-HR-RBI-SB-BA-OPS--Ks-Wins-ERA-WHIP-K:BB-Saves/Holds

My team:

C: Will Smith(11th)

1st: Freddie Freeman(1st)

2nd: Starlin Castro(18th)

3rd: Matt Chapman(4th)

SS: Xander Bogaerts(2nd)-K

2nd/SS: Jorge Polanco(8th)

1st/3rd: Yuli Gurriel(9th)

OF: Jorge Soler(3rd)

OF: Eloy Jimenez(20th)-K

OF:Joc Pederson(12th)

OF:Willie Calhoun(16th)

OF: Austin Hays(23rd)

UTIL: Yordan Alvarez(26th)-K

P: Jacob Degrom(5th)-K

P: Blake Snell(13th)-K

P: Lucas Giolito(25th)-K

P: Kyle Hendricks(6th)

P: Lance Lynn(7th)

P: Luke Weaver(10th)

P: Mike Minor(14th)

P: Ryan Pressly(15th)

P: Seth Lugo(17th)

BE: Yusmeiro Petit(19th)

BE: Robert Stephenson(21st)

BE: Adrian Houser-(22nd)

BE: Daniel Hudson-(24th)

Thoughts? With 72 players kept(almost all in the Top-100, some of the values may look weird and its hard for you to judge but I was ecstatic with how this played out)

I was pretty shocked that Jorge Soler and Matt Chapman were available at picks 16 and 32.

Joey Gallo, Victor Robles, Adalberto Mondesi, Jose Berrios, Jonathan Villar, Corey Kluber, Zack Wheeler, Trevor Bauer, Kinley Jansen, and Aroldis Chapman all went before Chapman and some went before Soler.

Hey! Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but does anyone want to throw together a hastily made fantasy league before Opening Day? It would be my first time in a decade doing Fantasy Baseball, and I just started a new job, so I don't want to Commish. Anyone interested? If we got 8-10 we could get one rolling for sure.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in a few dynasty leagues right now. I wouldn't hate having one redraft league so that I wouldn't have to feel bad about my deep love of oldie but goodie guys like Cruz and Scherzer.

Need advice on my fantasy baseball keeper. I can give a contract 1-4 years long.

I have 1 year left of Yordan Round 5. 2 years left of Bieber Round 11.

I made it to the championship last year and lost so I am picking 11th/12. I think 9 managers have their 1st round pick open so I have pick 9. I have Manny Machado R1, Austin Riley R2 and Triston McKenzie R10.

First I wanted Riley because of age and position but I can probably redraft him R2. McKenzie and Bieber in rounds 10,11 would allow me to go hitters with my first 6-8 picks. But with who is available in the pool, Machado is going top 3-4. Now I can’t decide if getting him at 9 at a scarce position is worth it then I have to find a pitcher early. I can probably land Riley or Arenado in Round 2.

Thoughts?

I am always a proponent of best value for keepers.  Riley is ranked higher (13) than Machado (21) on dynasty rankings so I feel he is the better value at the top of the draft.  And if that many guys in the top 30 are being kept, I doubt you get him in the second round unless a lot of people are using their 2nds on keepers.

Tristan McKenzie has the most long term upside.  He is good value as a late 10th round pick (pick 119) but he is ranked as a late 7th (95) so it isn't insane value.  But also being a keeper league, he likely goes in rounds 5/6 of a draft with a bunch of guys ahead of him being kept.  He could however move up into the top 50-60 pretty easily if he replicates last year and then you would have really good value the next few years.

I would lean towards keeping McKenzie as long as you are comfortable losing one of the others.  You may need to use 1.9 on Riley if you want him back and may be the best available there anyways.  If you don't want to lose one or both of Machado and Riley, I would keep Riley for the second.

I have keeper question too.  I am in an auction league that you can keep as many guys as you want up to $100.  Free agent adds are $5 to keep and everyone goes up $5 every year they are kept.

Guys I am going to keep for sure ($47):
Bo Bichette - $15
Austin Riley - $12
Gunnar Henderson - $5
Corbin Carroll - $5
Christian Javier - $5
Vinnie Pasquatino - $5

I have two other higher priced potential keepers.
Rafeal Devers - $25
Julio Urias - $23

And a bunch more free agent adds I can keep for $5 each:
MJ Melendez
Jake McCarthy
Nolan Gorman
Francsisco Alvarez
Tyler Glasnow
Nick Lodollo
Hunter Greene
Tony Gonsolin
Lance McCullers
Dustin May
Jesus Luzardo ($1 as I drafted him)
Alexis Diaz
Anthony Munoz
Edward Cabrera

I likely will keep Munoz and/or Diaz if they are closers since closers go for a ton in this league.  So it leaves me a few options.

Keep Devers and Urias, then I would likely keep the two closers and maybe not Vinny.

Keep Devers and keep more pitchers for $5

Keep Urias and keep more hitters for $5

Keep neither and just stock up on $5 keepers and have a nearly full team of top 150 players with $150 to spend in the draft to grab a few elite guys.  Last year the top bat in the auction (Harper) went for $48, so I am sure I can get Devers back or someone equivalent. Or a few of those elite hitters/pitchers.

Roto, 12 team league.  Standard scoring - H, R, RBI, HR, SB for hitters.  W, S, K, ERA, WHIP for pitchers.

My lean is have the depth and grab a couple stars in the draft.  But also could let a couple walk and hope to get them close to the $5.

if it was me, for the options you listed

I'd keep devers

Lodolo, May, Luzardo if hes only a buck, Diaz

I'd stay away from Glasnow and McCullers, they are just brittle.  Alvarez may not get much run this season.  If you want a late catcher sleeper, look at Bo Naylor.  IDK if he's draftable, but I think Muncy is going to have a huge rebound season in LA.  Winker is also generally a forgotten guy as he's moving into hitter friendly Milwaukee with a division of mostly stiffs pitching to him

Same here except that I don't know your total budget, so I'm not sure what kind of price Devers would get on the open market. I'm not 100% on keeping him over a package of like Glasnow/Greene/Munoz/whoever?

But I think the simplest answer is you for sure crew, Devers, (leaving you with 23$ in keepers and then Lodolo/May/Luzardo for sure, and then Diaz (if like you said closers run a premium), and one of Glasnow/Greene/Munoz. Greene is the obvious upside grab, but you could say the same about Glasnow if he stays healthy.

The total budget is $160, so I would expect Devers to go for $40 in the auction.

So after looking at it and other trends in last years draft, I am leaning a little towards both of your opinions.  Having Devers at $25 is still a good deal and I think the gap between me getting Devers in the draft (approx $15 more) is more than it would cost me to get the others in the draft.

So I am currently then keeping Devers (25), Riley (12), Bichette (15), Gunnar (5), Carrol (5), Vinnie P (5), Diaz (5), Javier (5), Lodolo (5), Greene (5), May (5), Luzardo (1), and then one of:

Munoz (5, will be the pick if named the closer), McCarthy (5), Melendez (5), Glasnow (5), Gonsolin (5), Gorman (5), which the remaining 5 would be the five I could replace Devers with.   I feel like I can get them aside from maybe Glasnow for less than 40 in the draft if I wanted but obviously there will be other options.

I would still have a very solid core and $162 to spend on a couple more stars and filler around these guys.

After looking at a couple teams and who will be available in the draft, realizing Luzardo isn't $1 and would cost $5, I am wondering if this changes your mind on anything.  Currently I will have a starting lineup of:

C -
1B - Vinnie P
2B -
3B - Austin Riley (lost 1B eligibility on Yahoo)
SS - Bo Bichette
OF - Corbin Carrol
OF - Jake McCarthy (keeping him because steals are big in Roto)
OF
UTIL - Raf Devers
UTIL - Gunnar Henderson (3B/SS eligibility)

SP - Javier
SP - Lodolo
SP - Greene
RP - Alexis Diaz
RP -
P - Dustin May

Players that will be available in the draft - Trea Turner, Lindor, Bregman, Realmuto, Will Smith, Luis Castillo, Scherzer, Freeman, Bogaerts, Trout, Varsho, Woodruff, Cole, Machado, Eloy, Harper, Verlander, Arozarena, Nola, and potentially Mookie (who has 2B but guessing he is kept), Goldy, Correa, Sal Perez, and Burnes.

Currently I have nowhere to play anymore infielders however Turner with his steals would be helpful.  And there are some solid catcher options but they tend to go for similar amounts to top hitters just because of position but they dont provide as much per $1. So would you still keep Devers and then try and grab an upper tier OF, C, and SP in the draft or keep Melendez (C eligibility), Glasnow, and three of Gonsolin, Gorman, Springs, Munoz, Luzardo which would be almost a full lineup and then add Turner, the top OF and potentially a stud SP or two?

If you are going after turner z there is zero reason to keep hernandez. He's a weak utility option as it is with turner woukd cover your extra ss spot not to mention the absurd amount of ss you listed that are available.  You seem a little too over obsessed with steals as it's only one category. You can pick up steals specialists like myles straw late in the draft for a dollar.

If Muncy is available I think he's in for a big season at 2b which you could use.  Your team needs more power ifyou dump Devers. Half those pitchers you list as alternated to keeping Devers are injury risks and already starting the year on the DL.  From my years of fantasy baseball, you can always play matchups and pick up random pitchers throughout the year who are playing bad lineups. Concentrate on hitters and closers in your draft
