Rams trade 2 future first rounders, a third rounder, and Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford

I still find it amazing that we overpaid for a guy that was at the end of the day, the best QB available this off season. They tried for Rodgers, probably tried for Watson, and realized chances were 0%.. let everyone hang on trying to get Watson (and eventually Russ) while we grab the guy that the league would be dying to get. We’re fortunate it was mutual. But that’s how I see it on top of letting go of a massive contract from a team MUCH more strapped than a team like the colts.

IMHO, the Rams only overpaid if those future 1st round picks turn out to be high selections.

Stafford is a stud QB. I question what Goff would look like minus McVay.

That is 100% opinion. I still don't understand how you can say Goff was holding the Rams back, as if he has that much power of the team's success, and then give Stafford a complete pass for the team's failure. No, that point isn't all that needs to be taken into account, but it's part of it and pure hypocrisy on your part.

The thing is, I wouldn't either. Every time someone criticizes Mcvay, others make it out that they hate the guy or the coach. I've said numerous times that, while I don't agree with the move or a lot of his play calls, he's the one guy I would keep over anyone.

At the end of the day, everyone's play in the NFL is pure opinion. Think Emmitt Smith was great? Put, say, Steven Jackson with that Cowboy OL and watch what happens.

QB is the most divisive position in all of sports, because they depend on 10 players doing their job, along with the play caller - but when you combine that with the skillet needed and difficulty of the position, you get people who excuse the QBs poor play. This happens on losing teams sometimes, so on winning teams it's even worse.

Then you have more haters than normal because of all this too.

The Dolphins game encapsulated the Goff debate - everyone who was disgusted with Goff on one side, and everyone who said ".....but the play calls" or ".....but the OL" on the other. And the two were/are never going to agree.

But I disagree with your premise that it's hypocrisy to say that a QB can hold a good team back while a bad team can hold a QB back. You have to evaluate each players performance. And as a starting point, you have to acknowledge that Goff did hold us back last year. That's not debatable.

The debate is - was Goff going to get his mojo back?

I personally think this line is more talented the anything JG saw while with us. I'd say the year with Whit/Saffold/Sullivan was the best/most cohesive line he played behind.

Obviously, the talent at WR is nothing like he saw here. Hockenson is the best TE he's ever played with. Swift and Jamaal Williams is actually a very under the radar backfield IMO. Holmes had one of the better drafts this year. I do think there will be some bumps, but I can see DET getting 6-8 wins this year if Goff is well protected.

In terms of talent it might be better than what he had with us - although nobody is close to Whitworth yet.

But in 2017 and 2018 we had top 5 OLs - that's probably the best case for Detroit. As you pointed out the WRs are rough, running game should be good with the OL - have to see with the offensive coaches.

But that defense is going to lose them a lot of games.
