Yeah but the needs I don’t think match up like they did back then unless teams trade back/up and someone comes from around 10 or in the teens to jump up and take one like the Rams & Eagles did. • Jags will take Lawrence • Jets may take a QB but they could also hold onto Darnold. Being that’s it’s a new regime it’s most definitely a possibility that they’ll draft a QB & trade Darnold. • Does Houston take a QB knowing they will eventually have to trade Watson? I guess it’s possible. • It’s possible that the Eagles take a QB too I guess, I can’t see how they’re sold on Hurts & it’s a new regime. So damn, you’re right. It’s definitely possible. Ugh 🤦♂️ Woz wins again! 😂

aceinthehouse
I so hope we don't trade up to get a QB. It's going to cost multiple draft resources to do so. Not when we can use the same concept & trade for a veteran QB who you know is good & will probably cost the same. Plus, make us a competitor right away. It takes rookie QB's time to develop & get used to the competitive nature of the NFL. Then you got to hope, they actually belong in the NFL. So count me in on throwing darts on a QB vet dartboard as our starter, rather than hoping our 1st Rd pick rookie QB isn't Heath Shuler or D. Haskins. I would much rather get our vet now & win. Then also use a mid or lower Rd pick on a QB who might be diamond in the rough. Starter=Vet QB Backup=Taylor Heinicke 3rd string=Kyle Allen, Montez or rookie Win right away.... Or 1st=Justin Fields 2nd=Taylor Heinicke 3rd=Kyle Allen, Montez Hope you don't go 3-13 Pretty easy for me, guys...

Yeah, let’s just keep repeating the same thing we’ve been doing for most of the last 30 years. Why keep Trent Green when we can trade 3 draft picks for Brad Johnson and then not re-sign him? Why draft and develop a QB when instead we can trade for Mark Burnell and give him a huge contract extension when his career is basically over? Why re-sign Cousins when we can trade a 3rd round pick & Kendall Fuller Alex Smith & give him a huge contract extension? The idea behind drafting and developing a QB is if you can actually develop a young QB into a good or great starter that they’ll be your franchise QB for 15 plus years, not just be a bandaid for 5 years at best. Winning right away with an aging veteran is nice, but it’s not building a team that can win for a decade or more to come. This was the entire argument a lot of had against winning the division last year. It’s not that we didn’t want to win the division, but our best chance to win multiple division championships & maybe become a Super Bowl contender is to get the best talent we can at QB in the draft. Any veteran we sign will just keep us average just like we were last year which doesn’t move the needle. It doesn’t get us any closer to being a Super Bowl contender w/in the next 5 years. So, because we won the division, now in order to get the franchise QB prospect we need, we’ll have to trade up. I would agree with you turtle, if we didn't already have a playoff/Superbowl caliber defense already. If we sucked on both sides of the ball, then yea.... Trade up for Fields or Wilson. Cause you know by the time Fields or Wilson are ready, we can put together a good enough defense/offense to win with. Right now, we are a #2 wr, 1 more OL-men, 1 or 2 LBers away from being a 11-5 or 12-4 football team. A (good) vet QB gives us an immediate impact, that can pay dividends this next season. We don't need to be chasing a QB at the top of the draft board, when we don't need to. Let the draft come to us... Now if Lance, Fields, Jones or Wilson are there at 19…? Then sure, take him. Even with the good QB vet on board. Otherwise, take best available player at 19 & move on.

Maybe not a Free Agent, but there are vets that can make us a Superbowl contender if we deal draft picks for. Which is better than trading all those picks by trading up & hoping Fields doesn't suck like Haskins. That's the point I'm trying to make. Even so, it’d still be better to find our own franchise QB through the draft and have them for hopefully the next 15-20 years. Russell Wilson is going to cost a lot of draft capital as well as one of our DL starters, as will Watson, and they have huge contracts. Watson is going to be 26 in September. Wilson will 33 in November. Any QB we draft in round 1 will be 22 or younger. That could be a huge difference for our future & winning games for decades to come. It’s about the long game, the long term vision of building a team, not just the short term fix that yes will make us better in the near term but probably won’t be as good of an answer for a long term fix.
