Mahomes is yet another storm arm QB (typo?) that a coach has try to turn into a success, however Mahomes has a weakness in his game and that is he doesn't know the basics of the position. Mahomes is younger than most other QBs for one so he doesn't have that old man experience to be elite, and furthermore he is a strong arm QB. There is only one strong arm QB that has won a lot of rings and he had a great defense. All the other strong arm QBs are at 2 or fewer rings because strong arm QBs typically mean they don't have the QB skills to truly make the best choices. But  another thing strong arm QBs are getting worse overtime. The strong arm QBs were best in the 80s because that is when they were at their peak. These days the QBs that rely on their arm don't have the drive to break all the records.

Sounds like a drinking game... that’s all I got out of this thread tbqh.

For reference. Teams that run Walsh-based systems similar to what Andy Reid runs in KC because they are all from the Bill Walsh tree:

NYJ - Mike LaFleur (Shanahan)

BAL - Greg Roman (Siefert)

CIN - Zac Taylor (Shanahan)

CLE - Kevin Stefanski (Shanahan-Kubiak)

HOU - David Culley (Reid)

IND - Frank Reich (Reid)

JAX - Darrell Bevell (Holmgren)

DEN - Pat Shurmur (Reid)

LV - Jon Gruden/Greg Olson (Holmgren, coached next to Reid)

DAL - Mike McCarthy (Holmgren)

PHI - Nick Sirianni (Reid)

CHI - Matt Nagy (Reid)

GB - Matt LaFleur (Shanahan)

MIN - Klint Kubiak (Shanahan-Kubiak)

ATL - Arthur Smith (Shanahan)

LAR - Sean McVay (Shanahan)

SF - Kyle Shanahan (Shanahan)

SEA - Shane Waldron (Shanahan)

Wanna know the difference for any of these schemes in the passing game? It's minimal at best. The league runs on the same basic concepts. Either you're a Walsh-based passing attack or a Coryell or an Earhardt-Perkins style. The fact over half the teams in the league run basically the same overarching concepts as Andy Reid in Kansas City isn't a shock. But the fact you didn't realize it is.

If Pat Mahomes is a system QB, then it's a good thing 19 teams in the NFL run the system he's comfortable in.

Then there is ARI under Kliff Kingsbury who was coaching Texas Tech with Mahomes too lol.

Mods, please sticky this.

This will be an epic thread to continually go back to

I don't think it will be epic. Just because this is so off the mark that it's clearly a disingenuous take. The guy is lying to himself.

You can also include guys who don't have fully fledged systems yet but are in their first year or two of being a coordinator when they build their systems based on the talent.

For what it's worth. I think playing in KC under Andy Reid certainly does elevate Mahomes to a certain degree, but he'd almost certainly be a top 5 QB anywhere he was drafted to.

Mahomes even tries to compete with Reid. Damn near called the first 15 plays of the week 17 Chargers game he sat out of.

They’re very intuned with each other and the system, but Reid fosters new ideas and off script behavior if it can make plays and score points. Keeps guys interested and staves off some boredom.
