A lack of physical attributes increases the risk of a player being a bust.  Does not mean he will but increases the likelihood.  Size and speed does matter but they are not the only qualities you look for.  Arnette is not 175 pounds and does not run a 4.56 40.  He is a 195 and runs in the 4.4-4.45 range.  His only deficiency physically is arm length.

Ugh... He himself said he played at 175 pounds last year and ran an official 4.56 forty at the NFL combine. Hayward had an identical 40 time at the combine but he also tested well in all of the other drills. He was in the 84th percentile in the 3-cone drill, 96th percentile in the 20 yard shuttle, 90th percentile in the 60 yard shuttle, and 86th percentile in the bench press. We didn't get any other numbers on Arnette other than his 40 time.

A big part of being a good defensive back that's often over looked is instincts and football IQ. Hayward isn't the greatest athlete but even going back to his Vanderbilt days he was a ball hawk. In his final 3 seasons there he had 198 tackles, 18 TFL, and 15 interceptions. In Arnette's final 3 seasons at Ohio State he had 93 tackles, 4 TFL, and 4 interceptions.

Arnette said he played at about 175 pounds as a rookie. He turns 25 on Sept. 2 and said he had to learn to lean on those closest to him.

LOL he said he was 175 because he got sick with Covid and because the cast prevented him from working out regularly.

Damon Arnette was a 1st round pick and Nate Hobbs was a 5th round pick. I'm not even referring to the preseason games just the buzz around camp and the depth chart. Hobbs will play more because he's better.

Lol again one had Nevin Lawson(An average player that was suspended for the first two games anyway) to compete with

The other had a former all pro & multiple pro bowl player to compete with

this is all besides the fact That one place outside corner and the other one plays Nickel

ya know... suddenly doesnt look like there are going to be any difficult decisions when cutting down to the 53. only difficult question will be the roster composition (ie keeping 5 or 6 LB, etc). but are there any major surprise cut candidates? the only spot with serious roster competition right now seems to be CB... in that battle between Lawson/Nixon/Robertson, and the 3rd RB spot between Richard/Ragas/Emmons.

but nothing very exciting. i'm hoping lawson and richard get cut from those lists

Olson said the WR cuts will be difficult. Assuming that means Snead is battling Turner/Stoner for the 6th spot.

Nate Hobbs played outside CB in college, lol. I'm pretty sure after the game he said that he hadn't ever played there before but was enjoying the transition. Damon Arnette actually started at NCB for Ohio State and then transitioned to outside CB. You'd think that they'd at least give Arnette a go at NCB so they can get him on the field considering we just spent a 1st round pick on him last year and he has experience there.

And the main reason we brought in that former All-Pro outside CB is because Bradley clearly doesn't think Arnette is good, lol.

Does that change the fact that Arnette regularly looked lost in coverage and couldn't tackle?

“One of the reasons that Arnette was seen as a reach was because of his short arms. He has 30-inch arms, which puts him in the seventh percentile of cornerbacks. However, size isn’t the only reason that Arnette was benched. He just might not be a great fit in Bradley’s zone-heavy system.” - Ted Nyguen

Arnette played at 175 last year because of few reasons but that is not his natural playing weight.  He was 195 at the combine and has his weight back up around 195 this year.  His forty time at the combine was slow because of a glitch.  Normally when a runner makes a movement that can throw off their time the guy at the start line stops them and has them reset.  He did not with Arnette for what ever reason and you can se it on a replay.  He runs a sub 4.5 40.

WR,CB & RB as you say look the only real competition.

Has Gillespie been playing FS or SS if he has played FS then there is outside chance Joseph might be on the bubble, Teamer SS has apparently looked good according to some beat writers and he has played for Bradley before with the Chargers.

Or that he simply wants Arnette to learn behind someone who’s had success in this league(Which in reality is what should’ve happened last year) that also has the similar measurables as Arnette lol

175 is the size of DeSean Jackson LOL. Imagine coming out of college and trying to tackle grown men in the NFL at the same weight as DeSean Jackson with a cast on

Serious question(not even trying to roast or anything). Did you actually play football(like with pads on)?

Damon Arnette is 25 years old, he's literally a year younger than Jalen Ramsey. The Raiders want to win this year and make the playoffs. Bradley has built some of the best secondaries in NFL history and immediately started benching/cutting Guenther's guys to bring in his own players.

Glitches, casts, weight, that's all fine. At the end of the day he was a first round pick last year and now he's a backup.

We reached on a player who had a third round grade at #19 overall despite him having average measurable's and being 24 years old because he was "pro ready." He didn't look ready last year he got hurt like 4 times and even when he was on the field he looked lost in coverage.

Damon Arnette got absolutely toasted and cost us this game. Was it because his wrist was hurt or because of his weight? It was probably from his concussions, buddy was worried about covering the flat in a Hail Mary situation with 17 seconds left.
