Player/Team Options

PF Blake Griffin (81) – $38.96 mil – I was hoping he would opt out but obviously that's too much money to pass on.

SF Rodney McGruder (71) - declined - he's 30 and not good.

PF Wenyen Gabriel (71) - $1.76 mil - I picked him up at the deadline.  He's only 24.

Qualifying Offers

PG Saban Lee (73) - declined – he was on a 2 way contract last year, I don't really see the upside.

Heat Receive

PF Blake Griffin (81)

Pistons Receive

C Precious Achiuwa (78)

I think this is a good deal for both teams.  Precious is a solid role player for the Heat, but Blake brings them a veteran big that can play big minutes in the playoffs.  They are kind of weak at PF too.  I get Precious with 3 years remaining on his rookie deal and open up the starting 4 spot for rookie PF Stone.  This also makes Plumlee expendable.  Plus its a huge salary dump.

Raptors Receive

C Mason Plumlee (78)

Pistons Receive

SG Deandre Bembry (74)

2023 Raptors 1st (Lottery protected)

Raptors lost all of their bigs last offseason with Ibaka and Gasol leaving.  Plumlee gives them someone who can bang inside.  Bembry may or may not get cut depending how free agency goes.

Free Agency

PG Tomas Satoransky (77) agreed to a 2-year, $12.50 mil contract.  I needed a veteran PG to either start or backup at PG.  I was looking for a passer more than a scorer.

SG JJ Redick (75) agreed to a 1-year, $3.00 mil contract.  He might start at SG.  I didn't love my options there.

SF Danny Green (76) agreed to a 1-year, $5.35 mil contract.  I signed him to mentor a younger player and provide depth.

CUT - C Jahlil Okafor (76) - making playing time for younger guys with more upside.

Major Contract Signings:

PF John Collins – Hawks – 4 years, $115.62 mil

PF Lauri Markkanen – Rockets – 3 years, $72.58 mil

PG Mike Conley – Jazz – 4 years, $85.91 mil (why?)

SG Demar Derozan - Spurs - 5 years, $183.99 mil (ouch)

SF Kawhi Leonard - Clippers - 4 years, $157.61 mil

PG Spencer Dinwiddie - Nets - 4 years, $84.68 mil

C Montrezl Harrell - Lakers - 4 years, $84.13 mil

C Andre Drummond - Kings - 4 years, $116.90 mil

SG Victor Oladipo - Rockets - 3 years, $75.17 mil

PG Lonzo Ball - Hornets - 3 years, $87.48 mil (interesting)

So the roster is still very young but I like where we're at better than last year.  Flipping Blake Griffin for Precious really gives me a good young duo down low with him and Stone.  Also Precious is a great rebounder which will make up for Stone's lacking there.  Killian Hayes moves to the starting lineup after moving on from Derrick Rose.  He actually started a lot of games last year after Rose broke his leg so that isn't a big change.  I don't have any great options at SG, Josh Jackson or Satoransky are the two top options but both are role players.  I want Satoransky to run the bench offense so I'm going to play him as 6th man.  At PF, I really could start Stone, Bey or Doumbouya, but opted for Stone since I just drafted him and want him to develop.

The main reserves will be PG Satoransky, Rookie SG Jones, SF Doumbouya, PF Bey and C Stewart.  I signed JJ Redick and Danny Green but they are just here to mentor younger players.

Current Draft Picks

2021 Pistons First (top 16 protected) - this is a bummer.  I assume I'll play poorly and keep this pick, but it means it will convey next year, meaning I won't have my own first next year.

2021 Lakers Second

2021 Raptors Second

2022 Pistons First - only if I make the playoffs Year 1 and the Rockets get this pick in 2021.

2023 Pistons First

2023 Warriors Second

2024 Pistons First

2025 Pistons First

Wow.  The cupboard is pretty bare.  I don't have any other people's first and I don't have a single one of my 2nds for the next 5 years.  Plus I'll lose my pick once in the first two season.  This is a really bad situation for a rebuilding team.

Does the game only follow protections for one year? The Pistons first that was traded to Houston IRL is protected through like 2027.

Roster Moves

CUT SG Deandre Bembry - He's not going to play and I want to sign someone to mentor Precious.

SIGNED C Enes Kanter - 1 year $9 mil - He can mentor Precious and if things are looking bad at the trade deadline maybe I can flip him for something.

Top 10 Prospects According to Draft Express - Year 2

10 SG/SF Loren Booker 18 6'5" 211 6'11" Central Florida 2 72 A

So this is the 2nd year in a row where the top of the draft is absolutely stacked with high potential players.  It looks like they finally fixed the poor quality of draft classes.  Downside is that there's no obvious franchise player in this class, and its another class weak on wings.

TRADE DEADLINE UPDATE

So I'm currently 22-34, which is 13th in the east and 17 games out of first place.  I'm also a full 4 games behind the 8 seed too.  This is 3 games worse than last year at the deadline, which isn't entirely surprising because this is a younger roster.

The problem with this is I don't have my first round pick in this upcoming draft.  In fact, I don't have any draft picks in this upcoming draft.  On top of that I don't have a lot of tradeable assets.

I shopped Enes Kanter but got no decent offers.

*TRADE*

Grizzlies Receive

SF Jerami Grant (85)

Pistons Receive

SF Bogdan Bogdanovic (78)

2022 Jazz 1st, top 5 protected

At first glance this looks like selling low on the best player on my roster right now.  However, the Jazz currently have the 3rd worst record in the West and would currently convey as a top 10 pick.  Obviously if they tank too hard it won't convey until next year but right now they are tracking somewhere in the 8-10 range (the West is far better than the East).  Bogdanovic has 2 years left on his deal, so he will be an expiring next year.  Meaning I might be able to flip him for another asset either in the offseason or at next year's deadline.  This deal also lets me promote Doumbouya into the starting lineup.  For the Grizzlies, this gives them an immediate upgrade at SF and someone who can pair with Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr.

*TRADE*

Dallas Mavericks Receive

SG Josh Jackson (76)

SG JJ Redick (73)

Pistons Receive

C Dwight Powell (76)

2026 Mavs 1st, unprotected

This is a salary dump by the Mavs as Powell is making $11 mil per season the next two years and both Jackson and Redick are expiring.  Both can probably help them in the playoffs too so its a short term rental for them too.  The pick is many years down the road but I'm trying to stockpile what assets I can.  Maybe I can flip Powell for something next year when he's expiring.

End of the Season – Year 2

Final Record 34-48, 11th place in East, and 21 games out of first place.  3 games worse than last year.

Season Stats

Season Stats - Year 2
Points Per Game Rebounds Per Game Assists Per Game Steals Per Game Blocks Per Game
C Precious Achiuwa 12.8 C Precious Achiuwa 7.9 PG Killian Hayes 5.3 PG Killian Hayes 0.7 PF Rickey Stone 0.9
PG Killian Hayes 10.8 SF Sekou Doumbouya 3.5 PG Tomas Satoransky 3.3 C Precious Achiuwa 0.7 C Precious Achiuwa 0.7
PF Rickey Stone 7.4 PF Rickey Stone 3.5 SG Damien Jones 1.3 PF Rickey Stone 0.6 C Isaiah Stewart 0.3

The stats were abysmal across the board.  The Points I understand, Grant was probably the leading scorer for half the season.  The Rebounds were kind of expected as I knew Stone would struggle.  Precious kind of disappointed there though.  Hayes Assist numbers were not impressive.  The steals and blocks are basically non existent.  This is a bad team.  I know they're young but these guys are bad right now.

*Indicates I have their first round pick

This was basically best case scenario for me with Jazz pick.  The pick is top 5 protected but they are going to have the #6 odds.
