SalvadorsDeli 2,171
Alzheimers is just awful. Also, never forget that AJ Smith did Marty dirty.
Thelonebillsfan 3,423
Such a tremendous shame when the mind goes, has to be an absolutely awful experience. Hope he's at peace soon.

Chargers 619
My favorite Chargers HC. Guy lead teams that still to this day we haven't seen as good. It's sad to see it go this way but at least he going to be with his family.
SkippyX 2,381
I always liked Marty. He was that guy that kept getting back up no matter how many times Elway crushed him.
SkippyX 2,381
His coaching tree might not have been huge, but it had Bill Cowher on it. He was also a pro bowl player on the last Bills Champion in 1965. He had a 6 year playing career in the AFL/AFC
PFM18 311
Sad news. All the best to Marty and his family during this difficult time. A true NFL great. Edited February 3 by PFM18

Don't think Alzheimer's qualifies though, at least in California under the law. Personally I'd rather just go prematurely. Wouldn't want myself in that state being the last image for my family. Reminds me of that Star Trek TNG episode.
ET80 18,263
Oh man, this is horrible. Marty had passion you couldn't fake, but was also a true teacher and leader of men out there. It's a shame people focus on what he didn't accomplish.
kramxel 485
May he live in peace and quiet! Prayers go out to the family, who always struggle in these situations, to adapt to a new reality. Always a challenging condition for those closest to the person suffering from Alzheimer, even more than the person himself.
biggie. 118
He turned around every team he went to.
MWil23 14,484
I ALWAYS rooted for Marty and so wish that he could have gotten over that hump in San Diego. That guy was absolutely fantastic at building a team, and IMO, a victim of timing and circumstances. #MartyBall #PowerO
3rivers 784
Marty Ball with the Browns was what really got the AFC Central more difficult in the 80's. Too bad he never got to the SB instead of the broncos.
