Should 2022, 2023 be dedicated to a “win now” mindset?

Agreed.  Salary cap going way up when the new deal is struck for upcoming years.  Where there's a will there's a way without putting your team in huge trouble down the road.

When you're playing with house money, it's easy to spend someone else's money.

There is no free money.

Lets say the salary cap goes up 30m.  That means every team gets 30m extra to spend apart from Green Bay who are paying for 2021.  That and salaries fly up. Maybe you aren't in huge trouble but your team is significantly weaker due to your 2021 splurge.  If we hadn't backloaded contracts previously we might not be in a position where we have to let Jones, Linsley and so on walk.

Its very easy to say buy now and worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes around in 2021.  But when does tomorrow does come round and you have to gut your roster maybe you are very angry with the front office.

Having said that ..

There is a real danger we end up in no man's land. Multiple restructures causing the team to be uncompetitive in future years. But not raise enough cash to avoid weakening the team in 2021. So achieve nothing. There's a case for taking a position one way or another.  Either tank 2021. Or have a serious go at it 2021 and maybe 2022 and then basically accept 2023 is when you pay for it and write the season off.
