Championshiporbust
Could the 1999 Broncos have threepeated if Elway came back?
BayRaider
Sure. I think they would of failed short to the Titans in the AFC Championship, but that Bronco team was damn good.
DirtyDez
If Elway comes back Terrell Davis doesn’t tear his ACL trying to make a tackle after a Griese interception. We could’ve seen Elway vs Manning in the playoffs.
CP3MVP
The 1999 rams would win
SkippyX
Sharpe got hurt too and Atwater moved on. Davis was 3.37 per carry in the 3 games before he got hurt. GSoT still beats them if they somehow get there.
Bolts223
Considering Davis tore his ACL and they would have had to beat the GSOT Rams... I’m going to lean towards no. I think they may have been able to beat the Titans to go to a 3rd though.
SkippyX
I do think they had a legit shot at a three-peat in the other direction. They had a bad day vs Jacksonville though.
Chargers
I don't think Elway could have gone up against the Rams on his last legs and won. Rams were all gas no breaks at that point. Plus you have a injured Davis so it's going to be tough either way.
7DnBrnc53
If Elway had enough gas in the tank, and if Davis and Sharpe stayed healthy, they probably would have been there, and they would have had a good chance against a Ram team that didn't have a great defense. Also, the defense added Al Wilson, and they had Tory James back at CB with Dale Carter (if he would have stayed in line. Honestly, though, the Broncos should have drafted Samari Rolle in the first round in 98).
kingseanjohn
No. Elway was nothing special in the playoffs without Davis. Hell, even with Davis, Elway wasn't good in the playoffs or Super Bowl.
Apparition
Nah. As much as I'll argue that Terrell Davis was overrated, there's no denying that the offense ran through him during those championship years. Olandis Gary wasn't anywhere near as good. TecmoSuperJoe
Don't think Elway would have made it the entire season. He was breaking down in 1998, although he was still good. If Davis doesn't get hurt, I wonder if he even has a great year, as leading up to that injury in that small sample size he wasn't dominating. Did the 2000 yard season plus playoff production take it's toll? If Atwater doesn't leave, Sharpe doesn't get hurt, and the entire squad stays mostly healthy I don't know if they make it past both Jacksonville and Tennessee that year. And then the Rams, I'd definitely say no. For what's it's worth, despite the injuries/departures, the 1999 Broncos were one of the best 6-10 teams ever. I think their DVOA was even higher than the 13-3 Colts that year.
Broncofan
Elway with Davis healthy & Sharpe? Sure they’d have been a final 4 team. Elway alone with Davis hurt and Sharpe gone? Don’t see it.

Rams were 4/6 on D in 1999. 6th in turnovers as well. 7th in yards per play and 2nd in passer rating allowed Their D won the NFCCG and was a huge part of the SB win. SkippyX
The 1999 Broncos D was 11/7/25/11/
