Barry would in LaFleur's mind give him long term stability on his staff.

He will never be a head coach.

There's that silver lining I suppose.

Never hire someone you think can't be promoted. That means they are mediocre and you will be stuck with them forever.

Gee you guys are all getting me so excited about this hire.  For the record wanted Leonhard. Oh well.  Will say this remember a lot of bashing on MLF and how TN offense sucked and why are we hiring this guy?  I'll suck it up and ignore all the chatter.  The proof will be on the field.  For once I'd like a decent D.  We haven't had one since 2010.  Maybe this guy will be good it's possible.  Want to see an aggressive attacking D.  No more passive crap.  Bend but don't break is like nails on a chalkboard.  Hopefully this guy will bring it.  Always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the Packer brass until proven otherwise.  This reminds me a lot of the draft.  Always bitching about the picks.  Maybe he's a sleeper.  One can always hope.

This is what Sean Payton does. He went a long time without any of his staff gaining promotions elsewhere. Other top coaches around the league do it to some extent, Belichick, Reid, even McCarthy with the Packers - we had an extremely stable coaching staff.

Sometimes they are not mediocre, they can be outstanding coaches but just old. Those guys will stick around for ages because they're never considered for coordinator or HC jobs.

Between what went on with Rizzo a couple years ago and now this with Leonhard, I am thinking GB doesn't make much of an effort to meet the asking price of "hot" assistant coaches that are on the market.  Leonhard coming to GB for a 2nd interview which lasts for a full day doesn't make sense on any level if he was never interested in the job.  Rizzo has already said that after talking with the Packers, he didn't think GB was serious about meeting his asking price.

They both had wives and kids needing to be uprooted. These are jobs, not just positions filled to please your football fandom. Both of these two decided not to uproot their family.
