Quote

According to NextGenStats, via Seth Walder of ESPN.com, Mahomes ran 497 yards before throwing the ball or being sacked on Sunday night. It was the highest total for any quarterback in the 2020 season.

KC's line was worse than the officiating.

The Chiefs lost the game for many reasons. Patrick Mahomes was not one of those reasons.

Lines like that is why people are going to start hating him; he gets all the credit when KC wins but gets none of the blame when they lose. It's Peyton Mannng all over again.

It all comes down to match ups. Anyone that saw the Buccs this post season knew that Chiefs patch work oline was never going to stop that pass rush, it was only going to end how it did last night.

Maybe not if the Chiefs had done anything at all to try and slow it down, like running the ball or putting in TEs to block. They literally had no one but the OL blocking for 92% of their pass plays. Suicidal game plan.

Yeah this was also a terrible idea. Not sure what the thinking was here, they put too much faith on Mahomes mobility I guess.

IMO the game was lost/over in the final first half drive. KC should have just rolled into halftime happy to be down 14-6 after melting down with penalties. They would have gotten the ball to start the 2nd half, and had time to catch their breaths and regroup.

14-6, they can basically still script a drive or two and commit to running the ball, keeping those Tampa Bay EDGE rushers honest, and instead, it's a 15 point game and time to air it out downfield, playing right into Tampa's defensive gameplan and exposing the Chiefs' OT situation.

Yeah in hindsight their aggressiveness really cost them.

I know many would argue that this is what got them there, but the Head Coach and Assistants should have seen how bad/emotional their defence was performing and been a bit more pragmatic.

Probably would have just delayed the inevitable but still.

Tbh it's something I've seen a few times with Payton, Tomlin, Harbaugh and many aggresive coaches, and makes them what they are. Excellent coaches. Usually works out for them. Spectacularly failed for the chiefs last night.

Yeah that’s a weird take. The Chiefs as a team lost last night, and that includes Mahomes having a very bad game.

Credit where it’s due the Bucs defence should be the storyline

Yes, but going against TB12 and basically daring him to be aggressive/score, compounded with knowing that best case scenario, even if you get a stop there, you get the ball with about 30 seconds left deep in your own territory and 0 timeouts.

There's a time to do that...and then there's a time to say "we've imploded, need to rebound, and the negative way outweighs the positive here".

Design a better blocking scheme to keep guys in and help on the edges, go back to some jet sweeps/pop passes, and some of your RPO game and quick game.
