Post Super Bowl Mock

Recommended Posts

I have a hard time believing that Jackson would be worse at safety than Redmond.  I'm hoping he finds a place back there to call home.  I still root for him, though I'm not exactly sure why.

Really great work @squire12, it's always rare to see mocks especially this early with this amount of effort. I can't speak to the draft class as I haven't really looked at much outside the first round. I will echo some other statements where I don't really understand the positions in the 2nd/3rd, I am a fan of BPA but at the same time would rather navigate the board a bit and get some positions of need while still BPA.

My thinking on the IOL in round 2 stems from my view that Jenkins could be a viable long term answer at RT and possibly LT after Bahktiari.   His versatility really opens the draft pick options.  If Meyers plays well as a Center, then you have

Bahktiari - Jenkins/Runyan - Meyers - Turner/Patrick - Turner/Jenkins

I get the argument of taking an OT in the 2nd, but I didn't see the value vs what Meyers offered, so BPA was the call.

Regarding Thompson, I think the 3rd safety is underrated and adds more options to move Savage and Amos around.

here is the Thompson read from The Draft Network

Tariq Thompson typically aligns in the slot where he has man and sometimes zone responsibilities as a nickel player. He is a willing tackler against the run and does a good job coming downhill and being a participant in the run game. In the passing game, his versatility and instincts set him apart. He has the ability and skill set to align on the back end or with coverage responsibilities in the slot. He has good ball skills and does a good job defending the pass.

Ideal Role: Third DB in nickel.

Scheme Fit: He has the skill set to play in any defensive scheme.

so more of a hybrid S/CB than true safety, but long term a safety and replacement for Amos.

Fixed it for you. Hopefully someone sees it before dudes career is ruined by NFL coaches trying to force square pegs in round holes.

Lol, totally get it; but if it doesn't work out?....

and josh jackson was a healthy 0% snaps across the board in weeks 16 and I think the playoffs.   bypassed on special teams by KeiVarae Russell

I'm not arguing that Jackson is going to be good. I don't think he will be, but it's not like there isn't precedent for it turning on in year 4.

I get that there is that hope, but him being passed over on ST by Russell is hard to overlook.

Maybe a new DC will be what is needed and possibly a position change is in order.
