**** was heart warming as hell... don't know how anyone can dislike Giannis

Also, 25 years broadcasting for one team is some achievement. Hopefully Jim enjoys going boating, fishing or whatever old white people do (okay he didn't say this part lol) like Giannis said.

35 years, actually. He's been the voice of the Milwaukee Bucks my entire life.

Had the honor of meeting Jim on Beale St when I went to the Bucks-Grizzlies game a few years ago. He talked to my friends and I for a solid 20 minutes, personally asking us each individual questions and then giving us recommendations on where to eat/what to see while in Memphis. All class, all the time.

Yeah......

Really not sure how I miscalculated 86 to 21 like that.... considering I'm born in 92 and just turned 29 lol.

That's pretty awesome though. He's not a huge celebrity (locally obviously he is) so it doesn't surprise me too much he's down to earth, but you never know. Really cool he spent that much time though. Hopefully they hire someone good to try and fill his shoes.

I guess for me with the Lakers that guy would be Stu Lantz (87-present) who I appreciate a lot and was my childhood, but he is kind of boring at times, especially now without and his partner who he played so well off of. Doesn't hurt that Chick is one of the greatest announcers ever regardless of sport and maybe one of the most innovative (came up with so many terms we use today). Really wish I got to experience him for longer than I did.

Was nothing like hearing this at the end of a good win lol. I don't know how he decided to say that in the first place, but I love him for it all the same.

Also, maybe its just me, but there is something about the great older announcers that's hard not to love. Maybe cause they seem like the grandparents I always wish I had lol. They have a lot of knowledge, perspective, and a charm about them that probably only comes with age/experience.

Now, Billy Mac on the other hand............ ugh. I hate him at least half the time, especially the way he does Jack in the Box and Morongo Casino ads. Not sure if you'll know what I'm talking about, but it makes me want to pull out my hair lol. I'll always have love for Stu, but I'd really prefer if we just got a new pair of announcers at this point.

Makes me jealous as hell seeing some of the announcers other teams have. The NY market is lucky/spoiled with the Knicks and Nets teams.... I swear to god. And, for such a big market and historic franchise we are lacking. At least we aren't as bad as the Celtics though. 😅🤣

Request: What are some good podcast recommendations for teams that are gonna be in the playoffs (especially those who have a chance to be in round 2 and beyond)?

If anyone has a recommendation for their team that isn't some super homer-ish... feel free to drop some names.

I'm more interested in the teams out West like the Suns, Nuggets, Jazz, Clippers, and so on. But, any East team that could make it to the semis, conference or finals especially is more than welcome too.

I think the best Lakers ones I listen to are Laker Film Room (very balanced and probably the best one overall especially since they added Trudell who is the Lakers sideline reporter) and Lakers Exceptionalism (more analytics heavy).

TBH, and this isn't really me trying to be a homer at all, but I don't think any state can touch the announcing the state of Wisconsin gets. Just a ridiculous group of talented guys all the way through. These are all the guys that are either full time TV and radio or fill in for our full-time guys. As I said, just a ridiculous group of guys.

Brewers
TV - Brian Anderson, BA's fill-ins are Matt Lepay, Craig Coshun, Jeff Levering; the color guys are Bill Schroeder and Chris Singleton; On-field is Sophia Minnaert (might be the best on-field reporter in the business, she's incredible)
Radio - Bob Uecker, Jeff Levering and Lane Grindle

Bucks
TV - Jim Paschke and Marques Johnson (Steve Novak is incredibly insufferable so I'm leaving him off)
Radio - Ted Davis (really, really hope he's the TV replacement for Jim, he deserves it but he's older as well)

Badgers
Radio - Matt Lepay

Packers
Radio - Wayne Larrivee
Pre-season local TV broadcasts - Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon

Like I said a few times, just a ridiculously talented group. We are so damn spoiled here. It literally kills me to listen to other broadcasts LOL.

Also, what are some of your guys favorite just general NBA podcasts too? I don't think I have a lot of go-tos for that either.

I recently just found out about the pod Steve Jones Jr. (Former college player, video guy for teams and assistant with the Nets) does that started this year.

Love all the video breakdowns he does on Twitter too.

TBH I don't listen to any type of sports podcasts. They just don't interest me. I spend a lot of time on this site already discussing sports and getting insight that I don't feel the need to dive into even more content. The only podcasts I listen to are The CripesCast Podcast (Charlie Berens, just because I try to support everything he does) and Sword and Scale because the quality of the content put out by Mike Boudet is unmatched when it comes to True Crime podcasts.

Yeah. I can't say that I know all of those names, but I'll take your word for it. Pretty cool that a smaller market can bring in that many good announcers, although for sports and local broadcasts its more about identifying good talent. Of course some networks like say YES and MSG for the Nets and Knicks (since I mentioned them earlier) pay bigger bucks and that's probably why they get better/more well known talent, but there is plenty of good talent out there.ty Some teams just don't bother looking and would rather stick with what they've had forever even if they are homers, get off topic too much or are just boring/annoying.

Was just googling and found this article on The Athletic from last year.

  • #10 Milwaukee Bucks (+18): Jim Paschke has been calling their games for years, and the Bucks fans love having him on the call. Former NBA player and originator of the point-forward term Marques Johnson gives the color commentary, and he’s one of my favorite in the game.
  • #13 (t) Los Angeles Lakers (+5): Bill Macdonald, as the play-by-play can be polarizing for League Pass viewers, but Stu Lantz seems to be universally received as one of the best color commentators in the league.

Kinda surprised we were ranked that high honestly. I'd expect more in the 20-24 range.

The Brewers are especially good at finding talent. They took a chance on Brian Anderson when all he was doing was The Golf Network and now he does March Madness and NBA on TNT for Turner Sports. Prior to BA, we had Matt Vasgersian and Daron Sutton. They were both really good as the PBP guys while they were here.

Will be interesting to see what the Bucks do with Jim's spot.

I feel you. I've always been a podcast guy though. I want to say during the course of the year I probably listen to hundreds oft podcasts (not all sports). It's just easy to throw on a podcast while doing other stuff like errands, driving to work, doing stuff around the house, walking the dog, etc.

But, just from reading the Sword and Scale podcast description... idk if I could stomach it lol.

I miss Kobe so much. Loved hearing any time that man spoke. Wish he was here for this.

I'll never forget watching my dad jump out of his seat and nearly hitting his fan on the fan after Kobe's game winner against the Suns in the playoffs. I was young but the energy in Southern California during their 3 peat was crazy.
