NBA 2020-21 Season - Game Day Thread (Bring Back The Wolf Pit!)

Nigeria hit some tough 3s but they also just took advantage of the weak defensive guards of the USA team. Lavine was caught in no man's land a few times, Dame was terrible all game on that end and Beal had a few mistakes himself. This team just lacks good perimeter defenders. Holiday will help in that regard but honestly, basketball is just in a good place globally. Teams have capable players throughout the world and Nigeria has their fair share of NBA players so it's not crazy to see these types of results anymore. USA will be fine once they get a few more games together and establish an hierarchy, but they are definitely flawed and will be in some tough games. KD was off all game until the end but it was too little, too late. That's not going to continue but who I was the most disappointed in was Bam. He missed a few wide open shooters and cutters and then on a couple post ups looked pretty damn limited. His defense wasn't up to par either. Draymond played better than him, especially on the defensive end. Tatum looked good though and he's going to need more touches when the real games start. Beal is the one that may find it hard to fit in.

lol basketball players egos are unmatched, man. No wonder so many players bust.

He gone. No surprise there though. He was liking tweets about his playing time in the Suns series.

He would be better off on another team that doesn't care about his lack of defense.

6'5 centers that don't play defense are in high demand around the league. Harrell's comments about lack of PT and Schroder's comments about wanting $100M-$120M highlight the biggest difference between this years team and the championship squad. The Lakers role players in 2019-2020 were primarily guys who had played on championship teams or played in the finals with guys like Dwight Howard, Javale McGee, Rajon Rondo, and Danny Green. They were all veterans who had been around winning and were headed toward the end of their careers so they were willing to buy in as role players and do the little things required to compliment LeBron/AD and win.

The Lakers lost those guys and replaced them with Harrell, Schroder, and Drummond. 3 guys who have always put up stats on losing teams and had a reason to strive for individual success over team success because they're in their prime and will be free agents this summer.

I'm aware.

Should've played him over Gobert

Should've played him over Clarkson or Ingles. Rudy's defensive struggles were overblown, the real issue was we couldn't guard the ball. So the Clippers would just get our worst defender switched onto PG or Reggie, they'd get fried, Rudy's man would stand in the corner so he'd either have to come over in help and leave his man wide open or allow the ball handler a wide open look in the lane.

Why do fans get mad when players say stuff like this? Are you going to convince Harrell he can't play in certain situations or against certain teams? Hell no, and nor should he think he is unplayable against certain teams. He's going to feel like he could have helped the team as will damn near every player in that situation.

I think the problem is him being public about it when he's an absolute liability defensively. He can feel however he wants to feel, there's a reason that his minutes and production fell off a cliff in the playoffs for both the Clippers and Lakers the last 2 seasons. Last year in the regular season he played 28 mpg and averaged 19 points/7 boards in the playoffs he played 19 mpg and averaged 10 points/3 boards. This year in the regular season he played 23 mpg 13 points/6 boards and in the playoffs he played 10 mpg and averaged 6 points/2 boards.

I'm sure there's no NBA player that thinks they suck or can't play in certain situations. That doesn't make it true and he's making himself look dumb for being so public about it.

Being public about it? He posted on his IG like damn near everyone does. Harrell probably hears more crap daily than most anyways and is tired of it.

Like it is amazing when fans are so surprised that player X thinks he got screwed by the coaching staff!!!

What other players are publicly calling out their coaches on Instagram for a lack of PT? And hears more cap than most? Who cares about Harrell, he's not some amazing, superstar player, lol.

Did the Clippers coaching staff screw him over too? Or is the reality of the situation that he's not that effective in playoff basketball?

He's going to opt out but if you were a team that was considering signing him this would definitely have to be apart of your decision making process. Because he's a guy that can put up numbers in the regular season, get played off the court in the playoffs, then will cry about it on social media. A huge distraction for a player that isn't going to help you win when it matters.
