The line again represents who I signed throughout the year to extensions, and who I waited until the off-season for.

We won the Super Bowl, and most of our best players are returning. The cap number is starting to dwindle, and some decisions have to be made. We will not be retaining Devin Childs and will look to replace him in this upcoming draft. He has been a solid player for us, and had a big sack in the Super Bowl. I hope he can get paid somewhere.

We re-signed one IOL but not doing another. We don't necessarily have a new starter in place, so this could be a priority in this upcoming draft. We will also lose our RG next off-season.

CB Jaylen Andrews is a former UDFA and he has good man coverage. Cheap signing for likely CB4 since it's so hard to get good corners past the 1st round.

The Atlanta Falcons have Accepted the 5th year option on MLB Junior Brooks

The Atlanta Falcons have declined the 5th year option on MLB Jeremiah Coakley

The idea here is that I will likely sign Coakley to a long term deal and let Brooks play the next 2 years and walk. Looking at the MLB class it is a good one, but I really don't need to get one this year other than for depth. I like starting a rookie there because they have a great chance at winning DROY, so looks like I will be passing this year. That's ok, this is looking like a really good draft class.

The 5th year option was $13m, holy cow. How much could the tag even be for MLBs?

Oh boy.... the Texans end up picking 2nd and I have their pick. This honestly sounds pretty realistic tbh. I don't think I will end up picking at 2, I won't have the cap for it, and I can pick up some picks next year.

Looks like I made some good trades though and have a ton of early picks this year, which is great. Also might give me the opportunity to trade Junior Brooks next year if I pick up a 2027 1st with a trade down and there is a good LB next year. If not I can keep him for 2 years. I just can't see myself paying two MLBs, and with Junior still as a Star, I have to keep the X Factor. If he progresses to a Super Star that will make things interesting, as he is just a better player minus the abilities.

The only positions with X Factors that matter imo are QB and pass rusher - QB because it gives them 5 abilities, and pass rushers because if they get in the Zone, they can be unstoppable.

Team Needs:

Needs for the 2026 draft:

  1. IOL
  2. DE
  3. CB
  4. DT
  5. TE/WR

These needs are not so concrete. I actually have Hagans who can play RE at 78 if needed, but we'd be looking for a long term player here. IOL is the clear top need, and really I could use 2 of them. But I always get too distracted by athletes at other positions, which is probably going to be the same this year lol.

TE could be a need - Seawright is going into his contract year, and is 87 OVR. I may not have the cap to allocate there - I have a couple OTs to pay in the coming years, along with LBs. I got good production from Seawright every year, so if I can find a young player to replace him I might do it. I wish I knew what he was looking for before this draft, because there is a TE I have my eye on.

CB again, I paid Friedman for a while so I won't be paying Paul Bailey in 2 years. Could use a guy there to develop. DT isn't difficult to fine, especially in a 3-4. Isaiah Newman is in his last year and he will walk.

I might get to the draft tonight, we'll see. If not I will likely be able to do it by tomorrow.

This draft class looks pretty good. There are solid players in the first few rounds at positions of need - IOL mainly. There are also a TON of good skill positions. There are a bunch of RBs but I don't have any on the board.

The first player on the board, Zay Sneer, is a beast. He ran a pedestrian 4.50 40, but everything else is ridiculous, and he has A A A- in his top 3 skills. If I didn't already get Wheeler last year, I might be staying put at 2 to grab him.

I have a lot of options here, but most likely I will be moving down to the lower top 10 or in the teens. CB Seawright is a greaty athlete and looks like a beast, but I might not be able to get a 2027 1st moving down where I would be comfortable getting him. Corner isn't an urgent need as I still have 2 years left with my current CB2 who is now almost 80 ovr. WR isn't an urgent need, but there are two studs in Rivers and Von Sheldon (awesome name). LB Hunter Whitfield is a bad *** athlete but just not a good idea to draft him to sit for a year or 2 even. Need based pick would lean towards Collin Fletcher who could play C or G, but do I want to pass on an electric skill position player? There is a good looking OL prospect in the late 2nd who I like more. Do I need both?

I don't know how you pass on Zay Greer if he's there at 2.  The size of a small TE, but one of the best combines in the entire sim.

Joe Leman sounds like a prototypical rush OLB for the 3-4.  If you do trade down and pick up an early to mid 2nd, he should be a target.

Have to land one of Colin Fletcher or Devon Waller with one of your first three picks, and maybe one of Grant Gallagher or Jalen Vernon between 2.32 and 3.32

He had a 7.8, but poor 40 and agility drills. Not sure I want that cap hit added to my books right now either. 2 overall is like $10m per year. I am going to get tight after this year and Wheeler is straight up a better athlete.

If this was last draft I probably stay put and get Greer, but I don't think I do now. Basically guarantees one of him or Wheeler is gone after the rookie deal because WRs are so expensive in this game. Plus Wheeler is bigger, and Von Sheldon has a way cooler name, would have a third of the salary. If I go WR it's probably there.

Still debating.

Can the Falcons keep adding ghreat talent after their first Super Bowl win?

I am just going to skip to pick 2 and hope Greer goes so it makes my (and @THE DUKE's) life easier.

The Broncos pick #1 (man maybe I should have chosen them for the rebuild) and they take.... a Guard. Who is 69 overall. Nice.

So Greer is there at 2.

I really don't want to take Greer. I just don't think I can afford that cap hit. I could try moving down a bit and seeing if he lasts, but I have so many guys lined up to get paid and Greer takes their place. I have Matlock as a Super Star and Wheeler as a star and he is just as good or better of an athlete than Greer.

Here is Greer's full combine:

  • 4.52 40 (33rd)
  • 40.6 vert (2nd)
  • 10.4 broad (1st)
  • 6.80 3 cone (8th)
  • 4.21 shuttle (29th)
  • 23 bench (2nd)

So yeah, he is a great athlete. The Panthers picked 2nd last year, the contract that player has is $8.5-$9.5MM for his 4 years. That's not quite as high as I thought. The Chiefs picked 15th and the contracts are $3.6-$4.1MM which is less than half. Does $4MM make that much of a difference?

What about who else is here. CB Seawright is arguably a bigger need, but still not an immediate need, and is also a great athlete and scheme fit. His combine ranks are as follows - 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 5th. Stud. I could probably move down to 8 ish and still get him. Then the later 1st guys, Sheldon, Kennard, Brackett, Fletcher I could likely move fown to 15-20 and still get. I won't get any of them at 32.

Which is more valuable?

  1. Greer
  2. Seawright + 2027 1st (or 2nd)?
  3. One of the later picks + 2027 1st + another pick? Madden CPU sucks for trades but they love the early picks.

I actually have some amazing offers

  • Minnesota 2026 1.11 + 2026 4th + 2027 1st
  • Las Vegas 2026 1.10 + 2026 2.10 + 2027 1st
  • New York Jets 2026 1.15 + 2026 2.15 + 2027 1st

Because of my rules these 2nds in this draft make it difficult, I can't have more than 2 and I already have 2. I guess I could just flip iot for a 2nd next year? Vegas is offering a worse pick this year because they are projected to have a high pick next year, whereas Minny has sucked for a long time so they are offering a 4th. I am fairly comfortable moving down to any of these picks just because I know I will get someone I like at the picks, whether it's Seawright or a late one.

This is tough. With these offers I can't take Greer now. I can't pass on 2 starters, maybe 3.  I will be moving this pick, just need to decide which one, and iof I can adjust the offer to include next year 2nd instead of this year.

I forgot the Vikings signed Russell WIlson. I want nothing to do with their picks next year.

I just don't see how I turn this down. Greer looks great but again I just drafted him last year. These 3 players will also come close to a combined salary similar to what Greer alone would have, and I need to be a little more frugal.

I'm going to go 1 by 1 and see where these players land. I will have a big decision to make at 10 if Seawright is still there.

  • The Raiders take DT Clement at 2. First one gone from the board but I wasn't going to take him anway with the L1 talent.
  • Cardinals take DT Powers 3rd. He skipped the combine, always exciting but not for the 3rd overall pick.
  • WFT takes FS Smith. Not a need not on the board.
  • Steelers get Zay Greer. He is 77 ovr, that is really exciting honestly since they got an X Factor QB in the last couple years. Love that spot and love that he's in the AFC for award purposes.
  • Cowboys take a LT.
  • Bills a Guard
  • Panthers take WR Shields. One of the 1st round WRs who I didn't have on my board.
  • OLB Miles Rice 9th to the Dolphins. I'm OTC.

This is the hardest pick I've had to make.

Seawright is BPA. Looking at the corners, I am losing CB3 after this season, and CB2 after next season. There is not an urgent need for CB, but they're on the field a lot. But Seawright's brother is on my team.

WRs Rivers and Sheldon are the best WRs there - I mixed it up before, Rivers ran the 4.31, but he was abysmal in the strength categories. Sheldon is good at most or all of the combine drills, has better ratings and still has good size. BUT, I have Matlock and Wheeler for 3 more years. I am losing MacFarland after this year, no way I am paying him, but I still have depth behind those 2. I really don't need a WR, but you know you can go 2 years without a good WR in the draft and I will need one next year or the year after.

Kennard is 23, meh. Hunter Whitfield is a MLB and again wouuld rather get one next year to start. CB Brackett is just worse than Seawright. Fletcher is good but like I can get Waller in the 2nd and he will be probably just about as good.

So do I go BPA or take another WR?

Vegas offer is clearly to one to take.  Trade 2.32 and 3.32 and try to trade down into the mid third and pick up a 2nd or 3rd next year.

What was Von Sheldon's 40?  If he's still there at 2.05, and is a true burner (sub 4.4) he could be a good complement to what you have now.
