I gave up a 3rd next year, but I will likely move some vets for mid round picks next year, so I expect to get that back. Let's sim to 9, and hopefully one of Sherwood and Carr is there. The Broncos take LOLB Jalen GIllespie. Hope it was worth trade up for. 5th is OG Matt Fowler. 6th is MLB JJ Norman. Good board... 7th is FS Justin White. He almost made my board, but positional value cut him. 8th is LT Hugh Murphy! Nice. I am now OTC with all of my board available. Dare I trade down again? I am not trading down. I already have 2 2nds now, so let's take a player. WR Pollard is really good, and a great athlete, but not excellent. I really like either drafting a super elite WR in the 1st, or take some value guys and train them. I don't think Pollard fits that bill, so he is maybe not my favourite option. I'm just not going to take a RB here. I can't. Sherwood and Carr are the 2 I am looking at. I usually play a 4-3, so this would normally be an easy Sherwood pick, but I think in a 3-4 I would want my edge guys to be actual OLB rushers in the game so they at least give them a shred of coverage. Sherwood is an elite athlete though - 4.59s 40, 31 bench reps, both best in the class. He has 1st or 2nd ranking at all combine positions, except 4th at vertical. He's an early 1st talent so you know he is a top 10 player by OVR, and his best skills look good; A- Hit power and tackle, B+ finesse moves. As a speed rusher he would start day 1 at ROLB. Ricky Carr also had a great combine - 4.88s 40 for 317 lbs, 39 reps for 1st, and best agility at DT in the class. He is 22 vs Sherwood 21, but also great HWS, strength and speed, and an early 1st projection. He is a run stopper and would start day 1 at RDE or LDE in the 3-4. This is a really hard choice. I think my ppick will be based on the remaining board of DT or IDL in the class vs edge rushers. There just simply aren't any other good speed rushers at edge. The first pick of this rebuild is what I hope is going to be a dominant edge player. There is always a premium on rushing the passer. As I said, ultimately, there are good IDL later in this draft. THis is a really hard decision. I didn't expect Vernon to be available here, but I also don't want to rush into a RB, would rather build more important positions. So many questions. haha Mays will play one of the DE positions in the 3-4, which I think 291 is fine to play. And yes, Grady will likely play the other DE spot. It means I won't be moving on from these guys now, but any that are on the team next year will be moved for picks. I didn't get a future WR1 which is okay, but Matlock will start at WR2 and will be the primary slot WR. QB and RB have new starters. QB is likely temporary unless McGee turns out to be something. 3 new starters on defense. The Sherriff of Nottingham should be a long term starter at edge, and I'm hoping Collins can be a viable player in a year or two. Deion jones downgraded from Superstar to Star, ouch. I will be looking to trade him soon, same with Olokun. I decided to play Grady at NT but he will play on passing downs too. Undersized or not I just want him on the field. 2021 Training I will be focus training QB McGee, EDGE Marquise Sherwood, and FS Collins. I wanted to do HB Vernon, but madden doesnt have a single training for QB and RB..... Training sessions will be Attacking Cover 4 for QB and WR, and Defense will be Cover 2 for Linebackers and DBs. The real goal is to get a high pick and be able to add another blue chipper to this team. During the pre-season, MLB Deion Jones and MLB Shaq Moore were both injured. Jones will return week 3, and Moore week 6.
