Resign:

Marcus Maye: 4 Years $40m. I think we may toy with the idea of franchise tagging him but in the end a fair deal is around the $10m a year range. He took on the mantle as top dog back in the secondary but needs more talent around him. Solid if unspectacular player but always very consistent

Ny Jets Football GIF by New York Jets

Neville Hewitt: Love this guy. Huge energetic and passionate player. Plays with intensity and aggression. Stepped up very well for us. 3 year $10m.

Flying Gregg Williams GIF by New York Jets

Pat Elfien: Looked very good in the run game but not so much in the passing game. Like his chemistry with Becton and value his ability to play both guard positions and centre in a pinch .2yr $5m.

Brian Poole: When healthy he’s a really solid slot corner. I don’t think he’s as respected around the league hence his 1yr deal last offseason and coming of injury issues I see a 2yr $10m deal being offered and accepted.

Brian Poole Football GIF by New York Jets

Jeff Smith: Always helps to have speed and Smith has that just need to get him the ball more. I feel if he has a good offseason he could be a solid role player for us. 1yr $1.5m.

Bradley McDougald: Another player who just struggled to fit in last year. Has experience and always been a solid pro so I can see him coming back on a 1yr $4m contract.

Run Out Game Day GIF by New York Jets

Terrell Basham: Very much meh for me. Doesn’t do enough to jump of the screen but I feel with a coach like Saleh he will turn some players (with talent) Into solid players. Basham could be a prime candidate for this. 1yr $1.5m

Ny Jets Football GIF by New York Jets

Adios:

Joe Flacco, Jordan Jenkins, Sam Ficken, Breshaud Perriman, Penut. Cut Henry Anderson, GVR, Ryan Griffin and Alex Lewis saving us an additional $18.9m.

Pre FA Trade:

Sam Darnold to the Indianapolis Colts for pick #21.

Flying New York Jets GIF by SportsManias

Free Agency:

Chris Godwin; 4yr $65m. He becomes our #1 receiver. Can do it all and at an age where his prime years should be with us. Adds a winning mentality from his super bowl win and brings us our first offensive playmaker that truly needs to be game planned for. Can line up inside and out, brings the big play element but also those big third downs which we never frigging convert.

Tampa Bay Football GIF by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Joe Thuney: Until this guy isn’t in green and white I will always mock him to us. Was going to sign last year before the franchise tag was slapped on him at the 11th hour (thanks Bill your prick) and this year it’s highly unlikely they tag him again. Would provide a ELITE left side of our line and is so dependable never missing games. 5yr $70m.

James White Love GIF by New England Patriots

Tyrell Williams: Going to be released by the Raiders after an injury ravaged season. Brought in to be an outside receiver and massively improve our red zone frailties. Has the height at 6’4 and always been an under the radar type guy. We offer him a 1yr $6m deal which is dependant on health.

Tyrell Williams Mic Drop GIF by Las Vegas Raiders

Ryan Fitzpatrick: One of the best teammates around. Such a likeable guy, and can be a big help for the qb room. Obviously he’s not going to be the starter but can win games in a pinch. 1yr $7m.

Celebrate Miami Dolphins GIF by SportsManias

Kyle Juszczyk: I think we again look to bring in guys who know the system but also give us more attention on the run game and making this easier for our rookie qb. Absolute beast of a full back with soft hands out the backfield and can also carry the rock in a pinch too. 2yr 8m.

Richard Sherman: 2yr $14m deal to bring in one of the leagues best defenders over the last decade. Has the swag, style and brashness to shine in NY. Can mentor our talented but young secondary and be an enforcer and leader this team desperately needs. Obviously he’s Salehs boy so he can further extend his defensive philosophies.

sad richard sherman GIF

Carl Lawson: I expect JD to make a few moves in free agency addressing our pass rush (or lack there of) but I think we will bring in a few guys rather than one big name. Lawson is 25 and has been a quality player for the Bengals. Just watching his explosion at the snap and the power/speed he rushes with i think coach Saleh will love him. 4yr $35m deal.

Aldon Smith: Absolute pleasure seeing someone turn his life around and I have huge admiration for someone to do the things he’s done. Had a solid year with the cowboys earning 5 sacks and a td in a fumble return. Still only 31 and with a year back at it last year could crack on in 2021/22. I like the upside here on a 2yr $10m deal.

KJ Wright: Once a dominant staple of that impressive Seahawks team he’s now 31 and no longer that great player. However he still has a high IQ of the game and makes up for his diminishing athleticism in other ways. I’m sure coach Saleh would love another leader and he will know Wright well from his SF days playing him twice a year. Can start week one as we develop our younger guys. Adds that winning mentality and character. 2yr $8m deal

Nfl Kj Wright GIF by Seattle Seahawks

Matt Prater: Had an off 2020 by his impressive standards but still has the massive leg to kick through the winds at metflife. We bring him in on a 2yr $6m deal.

Draft Trades:

-#23 & #86 to Baltimore for #28 & #60. (Trade up for Toney)

-#60 & #97 to the LV Raiders for #48.

-#129 & #137 to Houston for pick #112.

NFL Draft:

#2. Justin Fields, Qb, Ohio State. Big time arm, great mobility so can beat teams with his arm and legs. Like his short game timing passes and possesses a great deep ball with excellent accuracy. Played and won against top competition so we start our new era with our new qb. I like the fact he can improvise and make stuff happen all at the same time as being stingy with his turnovers.

College Football GIF

#21. Jaylen Waddle, Wr, Alabama. Speed, speed and speed. This guy is a walking highlight and has the ability to take every touch to the house. I truly believe with our new OC we will get the best of talents like Jaylens. He will line up all over and with our two new additions in FA won’t have any undue pressure from the get go. He can be eased in with specialised plays to make the most of his unique skill set.

Lets Go Football GIF by ESPN

#28. Najee Harris, Rb, Alabama. I know there will be some people who don’t like going running back in round one. But we must do everything possible to assist our franchise qb an what better way than give the rock to Harris 25 times a game. Unreal size/speed, great vision and soft hands out the backfield. Just a three down monster. Comes in as our lead back week 1 and starts knocking people out the way running behind big ticket.

alabama football GIF by ESPN College Football

#34 Wyatt Davis, Og, Ohio State. Speaking of helping in the run game....David starts RG from day one and is a punishing run blocker. Just gives us more nastiness and strength up front. Needs to get better with pass protection but still pretty solid already. Completes the makeover on the o-line and gives us a very strong foundation to build off.

#48. Pat Freiermuth Te, Penn State. We need to strengthen our tight end room and look at Pat as a guy with excellent hands and a brilliant red zone target. Has the size/speed to make him very dangerous and is a very good blocker too. Maybe lacks the explosiveness of a Pitts but still provides our new rookie with a solid inside target. Complements Herndon nicely too. Missed nearly all of last year through injury so I think he will drop to the middle of the second round so we make the trade up and snag him.

#66. Jabril Cox, Lb, LSU. Seen him play for LSU and he jumps of the screen every time I watch him. Incredible athlete with fast twitch skills and great instincts. Really good in the passing game but solid enough against the run also. Very much like the new age linebackers now which basically look like juiced up safeties. Adds more speed to the defense which Saleh will stress we need to make the system work.

#112. Israel Mukuamu, Cb, South Carolina. We again trade up to secure our target. This time the massive 6’4 cornerback with impressive athleticism and really good hands too. Proper outside zone corner bug can mix in solid use of man coverage too. Dominant for most of 2018 & 2019 but had a off year with his tenants Horn outshining him but he was banged up all year so look to find ourselves another steal like Bryce last year.

#172. Myron Cunningham, Ot, Arkansas. At this point we swing for the fences on a guy with huge potential and size at 6’7 300lbs. Needs to pack more weight in and grow into his frame but he has good athletic ability and footwork but needs a year or two to develop those skills. If he can develop into a nice swing tackle then that’s cool for a 6th round tackle.

All in all I think this team could be a .500 team and if our young offensive players kick on could be wild card playoff team 12 months from now. Would look next year to target the pass rush again and also another cornerback.

I Hate mock drafts BUT  i sure love this one, all great moves. I thought I was the only one who liked Hewitt, he is a ferocious hitter.

To be honest I think there’s a lot of us who like him. Like nearly every mock has us resigning him!! Just love the fact he plays with energy and has that personality and character you want in your team. Doesn’t take a play off and will only get better with Saleh.

I’d love this

Still think we’d need more from a pass rush prospective as Aldon Smith at this stage in his career is a solid player but probs not getting 15+ sacks like he used to years ago. Lawson would be a nice piece but again probs not the big time pass rusher we need. Didn’t want to be too unrealistic just signing the best available pass rushers either.

The draft would be great, but it is a mock, so no biggie.

Heres the real issue, and it goes back to JD's days with the Ravens.

JD will not be or shall I say doesn't have a history of signing FA players.

Like Newsome who mentored Joe, Newsome built through the draft.

I could see a few blue chip players being signed like a WR especially if they cut Crowder which I believe they will.

I mean, why pay a guy 10 million a year when you could sign a blue chip difference maker for another 7 million who could stretch the field.

It would be like spending 7 million of cap space. I could see that, they have plenty of guys who could go over the middle in the draft and FA which would be much cheaper.

The ONLY other FA move I would make would be on the OL be it guard or tackle. Then in round 3 of the Draft pick up another G/T depending upon the needs.

But I don't see the Jets JD going gung-ho in FA.

Now I could see Joe pass on an OL in FA if a top PR became available like Barrett.

The possibilities are endless.

Sorry Xena, completely unrealistic. 4 FA on D with three of them over 30 and waiting until round 3 for our first defensive draft pick?  A WR at 21 when we sign a starter and good #4 in FA?

The thing is we have several holes where it’s not like I’m cutting 12 players and signing new ones. We actually don’t have a enough cbs on the roster and same goes for linebacker.

Yes ideally we’d sign 7 or 8 guys aged 24-26 in their soon to be prime years but that actually is unrealistic. I think we will spend money on the o-line (Thuney) pass rush (Lawson) and receiver (Godwin) and then plug guys in at linebacker and cornerback. I just can’t see us signing the top players at every position so we will need to sign several vets.

As for the vets I think for me a big thing is character and mentality. Guys like Sherman, Wright and Juszczyk all have winning experience and played for top teams.

We will need to bring in several guys. Weather they are top tier guys or mid range guys we need the quantity as we have so many holes and several free agents who won’t be coming back.

This is what happens when you sign guys to short term deals. JD and Mac both signed guys on short deals with easy outs. We don’t really have any ‘bad’ contracts. With $90m in space with the obvious cuts we need to start signing guys on 4 year deals that we can build a foundation with.

All the top teams draft well and extend those guys and then sprinkle in guys here and there on short term deals at positions of need. Unfortunately for us we have drafted horrendously which means we don’t have any real foundation so just signing guys on 1yr deals add no continuity or stability.

Let’s not forget our D sucked just as much as the O. We have a defensive minded HC wanting to switch to a new defensive philosophy. We will need 2 OLB and a LEO. We will still need Edge and at least one starting caliber CB. You addressed CB with an old guy on the downside. OK, I can buy that for a year with the added benefit of being experienced in that D. You addressed OLB with another old guy which does not fit with Saleh’s statement of getting faster on D. You did address EDGE with Lawson. I like him. That’s it. You have us drafting a WR to be a future starter. Waste of a pick. You traded up for TE when there are several in FA like Jonnu Smith.  Do you really believe JD and Saleh would ignore the D like this?  I can’t see it.

I see that side... but quite frankly the O needs a lot more help than the D. The D was middle of the pack AND was on the field the whole game Bc our offense was awful. They’re hands down a top 1/2 D with just getting a better offense. Yes an edge and a CB need to be addressed. But the O needs to be the focus. The line of thinking that the D needs as much as the O, I just can’t get behind.

And yet you have Aldon Smith as a FA. Can’t see JD doing that.

I think what Aldon has showed is an incredible amount of strength and commitment to play again. If all the reports are true about turning his life around I think that should be commended. It’s not like he was an abuser or anything like that. He had troubles with substance abuse and looks like he’s done so much to get back right.

It does not really matter what you or I can get behind. It is what to we think the Jets will do. Do you really believe JD would do something like this?
