GOL's 2021 Mock Off-Season

Hello peeps. Here is what I would like to do this off-season to fix the defense and add speed to the WR room:

Notable Losses/Cuts:

QB Case Keenum - Making a lot of money. We need to allocate that cash elsewhere.
WR Rashard Higgins - Simply a bad fit. We need to upgrade our speed, which Higgins does not have. I like him, but not for what we currently lack at WR.
DE Adrian Clayborn - Is not worth 3M. I'd rather give our young DE's some burn.
DE Olivier Vernon - The injury and age is going to keep him from coming back.
DT Sheldon Richardson - Makes some splash plays, but has too many negatives. He's not consistently good.
DT Larry Ogunjobi - I'd like to keep him, but he's probably gonna be highly sought after in FA and get overpaid.
MLB BJ Goodson - He is good depth, but let's be honest. He's easily replaceable.
CB Kevin Johnson - Doesn't have balls between his legs. Softer than Charmin.
CB Terrance Mitchell - I like him, but never like the idea of a 30 year old CB.
S Karl Joseph - Could be good depth, but will be overpriced for a 2nd string safety.
S Andrew Sendejo - No explanation needed.

Free Agency:

DL JJ Watt - Stud who can move around the DL with Garrett to wreck havoc. Probably will play more inside 3-Tech than outside LDE.
CB Shaquil Griffin - Another very good cornerback with better size and comparable speed to Ward. Gives us a pair of great young corners.
SLB Shaquem Griffin - Shaquil's brother. Pure depth at this point, but the guy has legit speed off the edge. Special Teams Ace.
CB Fabian Moreau - Surprisingly good player. Will play in the Nickel spot for us, assuming he beats out Greedy. Speed, size, and age are all appealing.
DT Jaleel Johnson - Depth along the DL. Was really high on Jaleel out of college, but he's underwhelmed so far in his young career. Has some untapped potential.
QB Brett Hundley - A cheaper depth signing at CB. Have always liked him. You can replace Hundley with any FA QB that is willing to sit behind Baker and make very little money.

Trades:

Browns Get:
Pick #20

Bears Get:
Pick #26
2021 3rd
2021 7th

2021 NFL Draft:

Condensed:
#20: Gregory Rousseau DE Miami Fl.
2nd: Paris Ford SS Pittsburgh
3rd: Ifeatu Melifonwu CB Syracuse
4th: Garrett Wallow WLB TCU
4th: Tamorrion Terry WR Florida State
5th: Jahad Woods WLB Washington State
6th: Paddy Fisher MLB Northwestern
UDFA: Justin Hall WR Ball State

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

#20: Gregory Rousseau DE Miami Fl.     6'6 270
--A dominant physical specimen that overwhelms players with his length and size. Elite sack production over his only season in College Football. Did most of his damage working over guards on passing downs and made it look like amateur hour. Very good edge setter in the run game. Versatile pass rush skill set. Violent hand usage. Is not a bendy edge rusher like Garrett, but the thought of him playing inside with Watt on passing downs with Myles on the edge is frightening.
**NFL Comparison: Blend of Greg Ellis & Cameron Wake

**Highlight Film:

2nd: Paris Ford SS Pittsburgh       6'0 190
--Strong safety that will whack you. Easily the fastest trigger in college football when it comes to filling running lanes. Quickly closes from a high safety look. Good instincts in coverage and has some ball production. Has shown the ability to play man and zone effectively. Capable of playing FS or SS. Hardest hitting S in the draft. Misses some tackles trying to maul people and isn't an elite physical specimen at only 190 pounds.
**NFL Comparison: Bob Sanders

**Highlight Film:

3rd: Ifeatu Melifonwu DE Miami Fl.      6'2 215
--A great body and athleticism. We need to add someone with size and speed to combat guys like Chase Claypool. Melifonwu is a project, as he's raw in his instincts. However, he plays hard, hits hard, and has all of the gifts necessary to become a lockdown corner. Hand placement on jams is inconsistent and he has been prone to getting turned around when the ball's in the air.
**NFL Comparison: AJ Terrell that tackles

**Highlight Film:

4th: Garrett Wallow WLB TCU.      6'2 230
--A flow/scrape linebacker with excellent agility and straight-line speed. At his best when he is clean from the box and can work against the grain of a blocking scheme. Hard hitter that doesn't miss tackles. He takes great angles to the ball and has proven to be a very good pass defender, both in coverage and as a blitzer. He will be an excellent addition to a LB group that desperately needs a playmaking run & chase & cover guy.
**NFL Comparison: Matt Milano

**Highlight Film:

4th: Tamorrion Terry WR Florida State      6'4 210
--A splash play machine. He makes difficult catches in traffic, high points the football with ease, and has excellent long speed. He has #1 WR traits, similar to DPJ, except he's bigger and probably faster. Had a garbage can for a QB, which hindered his production. Was a Special Teams Ace as a gunner at FSU. Team player that will block and play on coverage units.
**NFL Comparison: Healthy Tyrell Williams

**Highlight Film:

5th: Jahad Woods WLB Washington State.      6'0 230
--Super sleeper at linebacker. Excellent quickness and speed to the point where playing some safety wouldn't be out of the question. That being said, he's an excellent diagnoser in between the tackles and routinely sifts through traffic to rip down ball carriers. He doesn't thud with blockers, but he doesn't run away from them either. Woods is undersized and has short arms, which will likely keep him from playing a traditional ILB role in a base defense.
**NFL Comparison: Jayon Brown

**Highlight Film:

6th: Paddy Fisher MLB Northwestern      6'3 245
--Plugging linebacker who does not miss reads or tackles. Uber productive and seems to always make big splash plays. Is not a good athlete, but his instincts and awareness always put him in the right spots. He is very good at using his hands and doesn't throw shoulders into blockers or ball carriers. Can't cover in space or in man coverage due to stiff hips and long speed limitations. Perfect MLB complement to Wallow and/or Woods.
**NFL Comparison: Paul Posluszny

**Highlight Film:

UDFA: Justin Hall WR Ball State.      5'9 190
--Everything that Tyreek Hill does, but dialed down a notch. He's fast and explosive. Breaks tackles. A nightmare on Jet Sweeps and Bubbles. Very limited route tree and has no catch radius. Has some drop issues. Dynamic playmaker who needs to be accounted for at all times. Will help in the return game and can give us some gadget player reps.
**NFL Comparison: Randall Cobb

**Highlight Film:

That's a lot of rookies starting on defense. Add Delpit who may as well be a rookie and no real leader of the group and it looks scary. I think we'd need to keep Goodson, he seemed like he took charge.

I think we'd probably be more talented but more mistake prone.

Also seems a little Miami heavy, not sure of the reason...

NO doesn't exactly have a lot of leverage.

Mack went for two firsts and change.  Edge and CB are the two most important positions on defense.  Lattimore has been a clear CB1 and is young.  Pretty much every star player who gets traded in a contract year still fetches at least a first.  I would love to get Lattimore for a 3rd--I'd give a 2nd even--but doubt it would happen.  I wouldn't give our first because we have to pay him immediately.  That said, he's arguably a top-10 corner.

So did Jamal Adams, but Lattimore is no Mack and no Adams, and the financial landscape is quite different now.

It might well take more than a 3rd, but I don't think that much more.
