Holding a press conference isn't about strategy, though. It's a service to the fans, and a contribution to the perpetual NFL media hype machine. It's true that early press conferences (and even later ones, to some degree) are "meh". But Pace turns "meh" into some kind of twisted performance art.

To be fair it doesn’t really matter what he says anyway - the coverage will be largely the same until he builds a consistently successful team. 

Pace doesn’t do a presser and the headline is the Pace peeking around the corner meme. 

Pace does what he did and the headline is “Embattled GM says little at presser.” 

Pace divulges FA strategy and the headline is “Pace spills the beans, is an idiot.”
