Still pretty limited in his snaps and they played Wise over him to start.

When your 350 lbs NT is losing snaps to a rookie edge rusher, it's not a great sign

When you say played Wise over him, do you mean Wise out-numbered his snaps, or was used in the middle instead of Branch as a 0-3 tech?

IIRC he actually made the start inside. He played quite a bit inside, especially on pass downs.

Pass downs I get it. Almost like a NASCAR package, but how did we limit a rushing attack to 50 yards total with a 260lb DE in the middle? Ha.

Ninkovich was worse last year than Marsh has been thus far. So, no.

Imo Marsh has some good potential if he can develop some better disengagement techniques and instincts.  Overpursues a lot and gets washed out by bigger linemen; he's also just a little too slow to completely blow by bigger linemen so he's in a rough in-between.

Some good coaching and more play time should help him out a lot.  Ideally he could pick up some of Flower's disengage/penetration techniques...they have almost similar play styles as tweeners but, Flowers is a technical god and way stronger than his weight so, Marsh will have to develop his own speedier/chaotic style.  Right now he just relies on playing like a fast twitch maniac.

This is Marsh's 4th year in the league with the first 3 spent under a good defensive coach. I'm not sure expecting him to improve much is realistic.

I totally agree with all that. Just cannot get off his blocks, and is overcompensating by rushing half way down the field. As well as disengaging, he could attempt to add some kind of spin or inside swim move. He has the burst and linemen expect him to go round the outside, so may sell-out to guard the edge. If he can surprise them inside, he could be in. Hasn't happened yet though, and as Murt said; it's getting a bit late.

For Marsh to be successful, he needs to learn how to play standing up. That's not an easy transition given all he's been asked to do since high school is pin his ears back and go get the QB. Seattle figured out that he lacks the physical tools or ability to learn technique and gave up on him.

I don't see any future for him in New England as a DE unless it's a Geneo Grissom role of emergency #4/5 and ST guy. Belichick doesn't use guys who play without discipline. Marsh is only getting snaps because of how bad the edge rush is and the lack of other options.

Marsh is the antithesis of Ninkovich. In Superbowl XLIX, if you watch how BB used Ninkovich, it was the epitome of disciplined. He was asked to feather the option play. You can see him remaining in a position to ward Wilson off from keeping the ball, and then crashing down the line when he handed it off to Lynch. Played the option as well as I've seen anyway and Wilson was massively limited. Essentially, he forced everything into our DL and Hightower due to his discipline. Can you see Marsh doing that? ...mmmm

I can see Marsh replicating Ninkovich's performance in SB51 which was absolutely putrid.
