Oh, poor Baker is going to be disappointed...

I'm going to be intrigued to see how the Browns handle him on whether or not to extend him now or double down and make him "prove it" again in 2021. Back 1/2 of 2020 Baker is Top 10 in the NFL and at least as good as Dak. 2019-1st half 2020 Baker is slightly better than 2020 Wentz.

@ET80 if you include the 2 playoff games, the last 12 games of last season, Baker threw 3 INT and 20 TD while completing over 65% of his passes.

So, if the Browns believe that they've "fixed" him and that's the Baker they're going to get, factoring in a QB who would generally be on pace to throw for about 30 TD and 5 INT while completing 65% of passes will net him a substantial pay day.

I think most will agree the numbers are insane.  Dak just got a little less than Mahomes AAV wise, albeit for fewer years.   And I think we know he's not that good, or even close.

But here's the thing - fans are going to be in for a MASSIVE shock at what the premium position players who sign extensions will get.   2021-only deals will be bargain ones because the cap is so tight for this year, because of the lost stadium revenue last year being recouped this year.  But that's the ONLY reason the 2021 cap isn't higher than 210M (the original number pre-Covid).

And here's the kicker - TV revenue for 2021 & then 2022+ is going to infusive a massive amount of revenue to the NFL.   MASSIVE.   MNF money and the 17th game already has increased the 2021 revenue from 175M to likely 188M (Denver's NFLPA rep stands by this #).   And that increase would have been on top of the original pre-Covid 210M that was estimated.   2022's cap number pre-Covid was supposed to 220M+ - PLUS the extra TV money.

The extra TV money from MNF was  30 percent increase.    The Sunday games apparently are at least 50 percent, if not double the prior money.  And TV revenue accounts for 60 percent of the league money.

What that means - for 2022+, as long as fans are back in the stadiums this fall, then expect the cap to be 230-240M to begin with, and quickly get past 250M, and maybe as high as 300M by the time 2024 rolls around.     That's the very clear math if the TV money increase is legit.

Now, for sure, 40M is still 13% of the team cap, and it's debatable if teams can make that work.  But Brady's 25M was 12.6% of this year's cap (albeit with a team that had 3 amazing draft years to help get a complete team roster).   The big part - 35M is going to be the new 25M standard we see QB's judged by, and 40M is the new 30M+.     When the cap goes up, the size of the premium contract salaries is what goes up the most.

I said it before, I'll plant my flag again - Baker, Lamar, Kyler & Josh Allen are all getting 35M+ AAV, and Allen is likely getting 40M+.  And it will likely be a LOT closer to 40M than 35M now.  That's a big reason why teams wanted to try and lock up the young QB's instead of the 5th year option this year - they all knew this cap increase, and the bump in scale, was coming.   Dak was just the first domino to fall.  We're about to see 4-5 more this offseason and next.

I wonder if the NFL will sign the first billion dollar deal in the 20s

Mccarthy ain't making it to year three so

You’re going to be surprised with McCarthy.

He went 6-10 with Favre after that roster was completely gutted.  Championship game the next year.  6-10 with Aaron in his first year, wild card loss then Super Bowl win.

McCarthy is an extremely underrated head coach.  His one fallback had always been loyalty to faulty defensive coordinators.  Jerry clearly isn’t letting that slide.

What was his record with the Cowboys again?  Because I could swear it was 6-10.  The Cowboys WILL win that division this year.  They will be very good.

According to Spotrac, Dallas now has the league's second-highest-paid quarterback, tied-for-second-highest-paid running back (Elliott), fourth-highest-paid wide receiver (Amari Cooper), three of the league's 40 highest-paid offensive linemen (Zack Martin, Tyron Smith and La'el Collins) and one of the NFL's six highest-paid defensive players (DeMarcus Lawrence).

Ten percent of the 31 NFL players making $20 million per year or more reside on the Dallas roster.

Baker might be a gamble.

He has shown the ability, but has yet to show any real consistency.

If he has a good 2021, then its a no brainer, but if he gets injured or struggles again part of the season, Id be real scared to give him franchise money....but he will likely get paid regardless since the Browns arent going to chance going back to the endless QB carousel.

That... Doesn't seem sustainable.

Oh absolutely.

It would be a gamble to pay him now, but if they get him at around $32-34 million per, they COULD end up with a steal if he replicates it. If not, then it would be a mistake, but as you said, he's still better than anyone they've had since Kosar, and at least would be an average tier NFL starter. IMO he's already shown he's better than Cousins, but I understand those who disagree.
