49ers extend FB Kyle Juszczyk (5 years, $27M)

I would have let him walk. You have too many more important needs at left tackle, center, corner and edge rusher to pay a FB 5 mil next year that only plays roughly 30 percent of the snaps.

Love juice but seems to be a waste of money. Would of liked to see them figure out how to replace him.

Shanahan wants his elite fullback in his offense. It was going to happen. Still not as stupid as the Malcom Smith deal.

But yeah, his heir apparent should have been in the lineup already. Whoever it is, you'd think they'd be getting 60 to 70 catches a year like Rathman, Craig, or Centers did. At least with Kyle running the show.

No no, you build a team with a FB first. The foundation.

i wonder when you sign someone else for FB for $1 mio how many holes you can fill with the remaining $4 mio. You can sign a Mario edwards (who? exactly) impact type of guy at d-line for that.

I have no issues with a franchise spending $5 mio on a guy who is special at his position

What about that $4M being used to up an offer from $3M to $7M?

That extra money can move you up a tier in players.

Yeah that is a fair point.

I guess i just don't have that much issue spending $ on a FB if he is special. I'm a Raiders fan and we used to have Marcel Reece at FB and we paid him 3 mio a year for a couple of years when the cap was lower. Never had an issue with spending that on him.

Love to see a FB get some love

i wont go as far as saying it is a great move but he actually plays in this offense so 🤷‍♂️

they should use FBs more in TE capacity these days imo that would be a fascinating matchup nightmare to have guys that can carry the rock and line up as TEs

Yes, they should. I wouldn't have nearly the problem with the deal that I do from a cost efficiency if he were getting 60 targets / 40 catches a year.
