Patriots sign TE Jonnu Smith (4 years, $50M, $31.25M gtd)

After this signing I wouldn't expect a high end WR to be signed, you'll see more value signings there.

TE is such a value position, you can get someone with potential to be elite for pennies compared to the same type of player at WR. IF Asiasi can take a jump we could see a majority of the pass catching coming from the TE position.

Hunter Henry was by FA babby, but Smith is a very good consolation prize. Feels good to have an NFL worthy TE on the roster again.

I preferred Henry too. Jonnu has always had the "skillset" to become one of the better TEs in the league, but obviously hasn't displayed he could. My criticism with him is that he just hasn't shown he can create for himself with all those physical tools. Hoping Bill can get it out of him.

Precisely. Why I said expect Jonnu Smit and then a bunch of value signings. The DL they signed though from the Dolphins is poor value.

Didn't watch much of the NFL last year (think it was post-Brady cope tbh) but all I hear about this guy is that he is an athletic freak who can do pretty much everything.

Hopefully Josh McD can do something interesting with him and hopefully Cam can actually find him.

I still think they add a big name WR- they have to.

I don't think they have to if they are assuming Smith to be their #1 receiver. If they are focusing on a 2 TE offense primarily.. you've got to assume a lot of attention is going to go to Smith / Asiasi / Slot Receiver .. the outside guy doesn't need to be a big name

Smith isn't going to be the #1 receiver.

Smith is a good NFL TE, but if they think he can be a Gronk-type premier pass catcher, the offense will struggle. They still need some kind of move at WR, not a huge name perhaps but someone defenses have to account for.

They already have him ,NA. He will keep the middle clear. I don't care if he drops a pass, the defense can't leave him one on one with a corner. They will need safety help.

I posted that about 5 mins before the Agholor signing was announced. He’s actually the guy I had in my head as an example.
