Broncofan
Opted out last year, now retires. Gotta respect leaving $ on the table if he felt it was time.

ET80
Jack of all trades, master of none on defense. Never a great player, but always a good one.
SteelKing728
Any chance New England drafts a DB early this year?

Absolutely Chung was more of a bust than a hit. Good riddance. Never liked the pick or the player. Feels like this could apply to a literally dozens of Pats players over the last 20 years. Surprised to see Chung go before McCourty, but like DP said this explains the Mills signing. Would expect to slip right into Chung's box-safety role.

Chung was a stud for quite some time and Mills spent all of last year getting torched all over the field.

I think he had some really nice postseasons in NE, playing at a really high level.

Patriots replaced Chung's role last season with Dugger and Phillips, Mills is just an added DB that we didnt need until this happened. I am not saying Mills will play a similar role to Chung. Also, Pat was BOOTY with the Eagles, he was only ever good in NE, though I wouldn't say he was a stud ever.
DoleINGout
Chung was only "good" when he first rejoined the Pats and sporadically in his first stint with the Patriots before he went to the Eagles. Always struggled in coverage except against fringe starters but was markedly worse in 2019. Started to lose a step towards the end of the 2018 regular season and became even slower in 2019. The whole cocaine controversy bothered me on top of it all. Edited March 18, 2021 by DoleINGout

Apparition
Was a very underrated part of the Pats defense once he returned from his brief stay in Philly. When he was brought back, the coaching staff basically admitted to him that they hadn't utilized him properly during his first stint with the team. After that, he became crucial to the team's ability to take away the short and intermediate passing game. One of those guys whose absence was felt more than his presence, at least from the outside looking in.
SkippyX
DO YOR JOB is what Patrick Chung did. As others have said he was not a star but like the big uglies tying up blockers so the LBs could attack, he was where he was supposed to be and doing what he was supposed to do so that the stars could shine on that D. He's not even a HoVG player, but he was an important piece of 22 Patriots playoff games, 7 AFCCGs, 5 Super Bowls, and 3 Lombardis.

Most cases it works out with FA not so much with draft picks. Go figure!!!
