Justice League Snyder Cut (Spoilers!)

The Flash is so lame. Like, he could be really cool, but they made him into a giant dork. He’s never done anything “badass” despite having one of the most awesome “powers” to work with. And his dialogue seems so cheesy. Even for Ezra Miller, who kinda looks dorky, it seems childish.

I’m halfway through it. This movie is insanely better. I love this so far whereas the first cut of this movie left me wondering why I wasted any time on it at all. Most people still think it sucks...just less. I think it’s actually pretty good. Easily my favorite DC movie since they ditched Nolan’s Batman.

Shame it all fell apart. They need to reboot the series completely, but it seems too late/early for that now.

I like a lot of their castings. They did a great job casting everyone from top to bottom outside of Lex Luthor, which is a special kind of horrible. But they did find a great group of actors to portray the roles. The delivery of the characters is where they lost everyone.

You and I seem to be on the same page with our feelings about this stuff.

Regarding the casting....

Ben Affleck as Batman -   Awesome, but wish he was younger.   I know they wanted to go with an older Batman, but if they wanted to build a proper universe, they shouldve started younger.     I guess thats what they are going to do with Pattinson, but I just have a feeling that Abrhams Superman and WB's meddling will ruin that too.

Henry Cavill as Superman -   Nearly perfect.    Has everything you want in the character.   If only they would give him better material to work with and write Superman the way he should be.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman -   I like her, but lets be honest...she is a pretty mediocre actress.   Her line delivery is really bad sometimes.  Still, she is passable.

Jason Mamoa as Aquaman -   Wouldve made a better Lobo, better not bad as Aquaman.

Ezra Miller as Flash -   Awful.    Never liked it.    Not a good actor.  Not funny.   Doesnt really fit the character in any way, regardless of whether they made him Barry Allen or Wally West.   Just a poor casting all around.

Ray Fisher as Cyborg -   In the Josstice League....I thought he was completely forgettable.    In the Snyder Cut, it made me want to see him in future roles.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor -    I actually think Eisenberg can be entertaining in certain roles, but they completely butchered Lex Luthor by casting him.      He shouldve been the Riddler or something.

Jared Leto as Joker -    Its hard to say if Leto just isnt fit to play the Joker, or he just isnt playing the right version of the Joker, but holy hell he is awful.       Leto is a great actor in general, but he was laughably bad in Suicide Squad, and I didnt think he was much better in that little snippet at the end of the Snyder Cut.

Amy Addams as Lois Lane -   She has grown on me, but Im just not a big fan of hers.    I dont feel like her and Cavill have great chemistry either.

Zach Levi as Shazam -    Pretty much perfect, but feels out of place in this DCEU.

Margot Robbie as Harley -    On paper and aesthetically, you couldnt cast the role better....but I just dont care for her acting in the role outside of a few scenes.

Ill stop there for now.      Think I hit all the major ones.

They cast the trinity pretty well and outside of Ezra Miller, the Justice League as a whole was done well.     But they really butchered some of the top villains.

This movie is 4 hours long because Snyder felt the need to add 5 minutes of Icelandic women singing over Aquaman while one of them sniffs his shirt.

Why did Wonder Woman have to clink her forearm things together and destroy an entire floor in property damage when she could have just pushed the guy out the window?

In any new DCEU, they HAVE to remove the Amazonians and just have Wonder Woman or SERIOUSLY rethink how they’re portrayed.  They’re hokey as hell here.  Might be the costume design.  Looks like some porn parody of 300 or something.

Im too lazy to do it myself, but I need someone to time out how much run time is in slow motion.

It’s pretty crazy how everything in this movie is lifted from the cartoon movies.

They gotta change some **** around.

Like MCU can’t possibly have stuck so closely to the comics.

You gotta take what happens in the comics as inspiration, not Gospel.

Like there’s no way every single iteration of Victor Stone has to use his football as a part of his backstory.  Or an absent father scientist who brings him back to life.

Not every version of Aquaman has to be a drunk struggling with where he belongs.

These movies/characters keep failing because the story kinda sucks and needs to be updated/changed/adapted.

???

No offense, but these are kind of petty complaints.  I do agree that comics should not necessarily be gospel, but they dont need to change origin stories much.

First off, Marvel stuck pretty damn close to their classic origins, especially Iron Man and Cap.   Minor changes, but the main parts were intact.

Secondly, Aquaman, while his birth origin is always the same (half human/half Atlantean), he has numerous origins in the comics.   He is not always presented as a drunk who struggles to fit in.   He is often presented as being raised to resent surface dwellars, while in the DCEU, his resentment is towards Atlantis.

I dont see anything wrong with the origin stories.    You could argue that the EXECUTION of their origins wasnt handled well, but their origin stories themselves arent really an issue.    Who cares if Victor was a football star and was saved by his fathers alien research?    Thats like complaining that Peter Parker is pretty much always a dorky genius teenager who was bitten by a radioactive spider and was raised by his Aunt May.

You're half right.  My issue is with how lame they are.  Especially in the delivery.

You also have to consider the fact that I'm referring to one or two cartoon movies plus a 4 hour long movie that serves as the origin movie for not one, but several characters.

I also have an issue with origin stories in general.  They're completely unnecessary.

Unless the villain/story fits in perfectly with the origin story and you're telling a little bit of an epic story like in Batman Begins and you can tie the origin into the plot, they're just dumb.

Like Aquaman is essentially born with his abilities, right?  So what does he need an origin story for?

Part of this is also me disliking the majority of DC superheroes in general.

And part of this is just me being frustrated with how terrible this movie is.  I literally - not figuratively - literally cringed at the Aquaman having Icelandic women sing to him and sniff his shirt.  Like WTF was that?  Then I literally cringed at the whole 100,000 lottery scene.  So much stupid in that scene.  And I think I'm barely an hour in.

It's just so Goddamn irritating to see all of the potential with all of those characters, all of which are better than any Marvel character outside of some X-Men, and see them do this **** with them.

Just imagine MCU level writing over 10 years and seeing their version of Cyborg, the Shazam kid, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash... all in a room talking.

I also think it's easier to go the Atlantis hating route for Aquaman, so that wasn't really the issue there.  The issue was them trying to turn Jason Momoa into this self-doubting character who is simultaneously full of himself.  Pick one.

And then Cyborg.  Just terrible.  If Marvel can modernize all of these superhero looks, DC can do the same with Cyborg.  There is no way in hell that look should ever be accepted in a movie.  In no possible way is that version of Cyborg ever going to be a good feature length, live action character.  They have got to tone that character down significantly.  Give the dude a red eye, not a red half his face with a rocket on his shoulder, all silver, jets coming out of his arms, can also fly, has a water tooth pick built into the chin, has a fire hose attachment for his ****, can shoot blue **** out of his ***.  It's lamer than hell.  So fine, keep the same backstory, but make that **** more like adamantium where it's a little bit hidden and he doesn't look like the Tin Man dicking around Wonderland.

If I had creative control over Cyborg in a DCEU, dude would not have any of that silver **** surrounding his whole body.  He'd essentially look human with some of that crap hidden underneath his skin.  He'd essentially be the universe's "guy in the chair" who could also fight low level villains, sometimes show up with detached WEAPONS built with his father's research.

The idea of all of these augmentations is just dumb and doesn't make any sense.  The dad was trying to save his life, not turn him into a killing machine, so how in God's name the dude gets rocket launchers on his shoulder and jets all over his body is beyond me and I literally hate that character.

Rant over.

No it's not.

All I ****ing want is a Batman universe.  Skip the rest of the characters, I don't care.  Batman alone has enough villains, superheroes and side characters to create its own extended universe and DC is sitting there giving me Icelandic women singing to Aquaman and sniffing his shirt.

It just depends how youre setting up the universe.

The origin stories in the MCU was done incredibly well.

And arguably, the stand alone origin stories in the DCEU have been the best ones (MoS, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, and if you want to count it...Joker)

I mean, Aquaman was only a semi-origin story.

They showed his birth origins and his growing up, but the main story itself took place after Justice League.

Why do you seem to care so much about DC if you dont like the heroes?    Not being a smart arse....just seems odd.

There are definitely many stupid parts remaining, even in the Snyder cut.

As you noted, the Snyder cut is MUCH better than the Josstice League, but there are still alot of major issues and stupid parts.

100% agree with this.       For all the things you and I have argued about regarding DC, this is where we have always seen eye to eye.

Just imagine if the studio and the people forming this universe actually cared about the characters and the stories.     I 100% truly believe that most of the people who work on these DC movies dont actually care about the comics or source material AT ALL.    Even Zack Snyder, for all of his talk about loving these characters, ruined them in many ways....

Batman was brutal which I loved, but making him a cold blooded killer goes against everything the character is about.   I dont have a huge issue with Batman having to possibly kill the occasional villain to survive.....but I do have an issue with what he was doing in BvS.

Superman was too mopey and depressing.   There were peaks of what Superman is supposed to be, but we never actually got it.   Oddly, the closest we got was problem in Whedon's cut....but with too much camp and bad writing.

Lex Luthor was ruined in every possible way.

Aquaman and Flash....I liked them both much more in Snyders cut....even though I still strongly dislike Ezra Miller.

Bottom line....they had no plan for the DCEU.   Thats already been confirmed.   They just wanted to catch up to Avengers as quickly as possible.

I dont know that he was ever full of self doubt...as much as Id say he just didnt want anything to do with Atlantis and resented them for what they did to his mother.

I didnt have a huge issue with it, but I get what you mean.

You cant just hide it with adamantium.    Most of his body IS comprised on the alien tech.   Outside of completely changing the character into something completely different, the closest youre like to get is something like this...

Meh....not how I would approach it, but to each their own.

I wouldnt have him be a heavily featured member since there are too many others to focus on (especially if dont right), but I would still make sure he has an important role, even if much of it was behind the scenes.

If you do some research on the character, his dad didnt build him to be a killing machine....but the alien technology he fused him with (in many cases, a motherbox) had almost unlimited possibilities in its functions.   His entire body and mind fused with advanced alien tech, and that was the only way his life could be saved.

Check out the animated "Justice League War"   I wasnt a huge fan of how the characters were portrayed in that movie....but it shows that Silas was willing to do whatever it took to save his sons life, and thus was born Cyborg.

Two things...

1) I want a full DC  universe with ALL the characters, just like Marvel.   I doubt that ever happens though...at least not a good one.

2)  I would much rather see a high budget Batman TV show on HBO.   8 to 10 hour long episodes per season for 7 or 8 seasons......you will do the Batman mythos much more justice that way than with movies.   And hell, you could still have a feature movie connected to the show.

I think an essential part of Cyborg's character is having that tech on the outside of his body which makes him look less human. If he looked the same and could roam freely through the streets he'd be way less sympathetic.

He’d be a lot more sympathetic if he didn’t look like he was cosplaying as a toaster.

Sometimes sacrifices have to be made to effectively adapt a comic book character to the screen.

This is one such instance.
