Broncofan 5,689
Separate thread so it's easier to find later on over time.... Before ppl ask if he's worth the $: -Simmons is a top 3 FS right now, and in his prime -Most importantly, while he becomes the top paid FS right now - it's not by much, and with the new TV money kicking in next year, the 2022 cap increase will be insane. Simmons' contract will likely drop to below top 5 by the end of 2022, and likely be out of the top 10 by the end of the guaranteed $ in year 3. So yes, sign me up. And yes, excited about the "aren't done, yet" - here comes Fuller!!!!
Calamity_Cometh 290
So happy about this. This was the one off-season worry that I had but we locked him up. Freaking go Broncos!
broncos67 675
Good signing. Lotta money, but we needed to keep him in the fold.

Zukhyubern 81
Not much you can say about this besides being an excellent move. Elway had proven skeptical of paying his own guys and Paton is reversing course and making it a priority. It's great to see.
AnAngryAmerican 1,026
Great move by George Paton to get this done. I'll be interested to see how they spread the money out; in all likelihood, Simmons' cap number this year will decrease from the $13.37m he was going to count against the cap on the franchise tag. This will likely free up a few million more and give us even more money to play with.
lomaxgrUK 845
Awesome. He's so versatile, dependable and the kind of guy you want to root for. Sends a good message to the team.

To be fair to Elway - there hasn't been a player he's let walk other than Shaq Barrett who's proven it was a mistake to do so. And in Barrett's case, it was a matter that Von & Chubb were both starting. Frankly, the cap health we enjoy now is because Elway has been wise in his extensions. Better to cut bait a year too soon, than a year too late - especially if your team isn't a legit contender. Now that the FO has been patient and stopped doing those stopgap win-now FA moves the last 2 offseasons (the 2018 moves with Von's restructure were the absolute abyss), and we've built with successful drafts, we're in a position where it makes sense to extend our young guys, especially those who are elite-level. Harris isn't elite, but he also didn't cost elite $, but he's young and has a lot of tread on his tires. So does Simmons. The other part - if there's a year to extend your players to a multi-year deal, it's this one. I mentioned it above, but the cap increase next year is now confirmed to be INSANE. The TV money nearly doubled. Players get 48 percent of league revenue, and TV revenue accounts for over 60 percent of league income in normal years. So getting Harris & Simmons signed this year, Bolles in-season - their salaries will actually look WAY better next offseason. The wage scale increase will be nuts. Nothing but praise here. Hopefully Paton acquires Fuller, and then he might also get Kareem back at a discount now that the secondary looks really good. Then we tackle ILB/EDGE/SS long-term in the draft, and the D weaknesses are addressed in a big way (RT isn't a bad target either).
Joe_is_the_best 369
Good for Simmons. He deserves it. Plus with the new league revenues, this contract will have great value.
